CHAPTER 156 : A QUIET KINDNESS
Understanding Kira, Lythari let out a soft breath and nodded. "I understand." Then, after a pause, she gave her an answer. "You are a hybrid. Half wolf, half witch. You are also the first of your kind. Baba Razz knew this, and that is why he sent you to us-to help you find yourself."
"But my parents… they were both werewolves," Kira said, searching her mind for any clue, anything she may have missed. "As far as I can remember, they showed none of that witch trait."
"Are you sure about that, though?" Lythari asked carefully, understanding that it was a lot for Kira. "Baba Razz said you are the first of your kind. Which would mean no one else, even before you had been like this. It is also possible that somewhere in your lineage, someone had witch blood in them or was a witch."
"Then, how am I the first? Someone should have been a hybrid before me," Kira said, taking a deep breath as she could feel the exhaustion creeping in more in her mind and every part of her body.
"Let me explain," Lythari muttered while looking at the flowers at the side. "Someone in your family line was a witch, married a werewolf, but the werewolf genes were stronger, so every descendant after that was born a werewolf, except you. For some reason in you, both bloodlines surfaced equally. That makes you… special."
"I see," Kira muttered, absorbing the information as they walked slowly. "That explanation works."
"Listen, Kira, we can talk more about this another time," Lythari said after she had studied Kira for a brief moment. "I know you have so many questions, but after everything you have been through in such a short while, the new things you have seen, and everything else you may be going through, you need rest. Physical, mental and emotional rest."
"That is an understatement," Kira said, laughing dryly.
"Well, I won't be telling you anything else for now, and you will be taking the whole week to rest, and get used to things here, walk around and all. Next week, we will talk more about this… and your training," Lythari said, making no room for argument.
"My training?" Kira inquired as she rubbed the side of her head.
"Yes, your training," Lythari confirmed. Then, noticing the way Kira looked very pale, she immediately reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"I am fine," Kira winced. "My head hurts, but it's nothing. It will pass."
"It is not nothing," Lythari said and wrapped an arm around her to help her walk. "Come on, I will take you home so you can rest."
"No, no, it's fine. Really," Kira said, attempting to move away.
"I can go back on my own," she insisted while shaking her head as if she was trying to shake off the pain. "Thank you, though."
"Do not be stubborn, Kira. I will take you back," Lythari also insisted, not convinced one bit.
"I am not being stubborn," Kira looked at her, forcing out a weak smile. "I just don't want to stress you by making you go back and forth, and I would also like to be alone for a bit. That's all."
"I do not have a problem with that," Lythari stated before grabbing Kira's arm and pulling her along. "I'll help you get back; I can't have you falling unconscious all by yourself."
Letting out a small laugh, Kira muttered. "I think you're the stubborn one, not me."
"And I couldn't agree more," Lythari accepted as they continued walking, almost close to their destination.
After arriving at their destination, Lythari helped Kira inside, guiding her to the bedroom, where she sat on the bed and Kira lay down, staring at the ceiling.
"You're in pain," she said after a moment, but Kira didn't respond.
"You try so hard to hide it," she continued. "But your eyes… I can see it."
"Then I guess I am not trying hard enough," Kira whispered and let out a soft breath. "I am just tired. Everything is too much, and my head is a f*cking mess. Apologies for my choice of words."
"Feel free to let out all the steam," Lythari urged. "It's okay."
"And no matter how much I want to stop, I can't. I can't just give up," Kira continued. "You know, I wonder…" her voice quieter now. "I wonder where all that energy is coming from. Because trust me, I have none left."
"I feel like screaming," she went on, and Lythari listened. "I want to sort everything out. I want to figure it all out. Now I'm a hybrid, no mates, confused, not sure where to start, what to start, overwhelmed, I-"
"You need a break," Lythari interrupted gently. "It's all coming to you at once, and you don't have your emotions under control. Like I said, you do not have to figure everything out all at once."
Then, she lifted her hand and gently placed her fingers over Kira's forehead.
"Rest now," she whispered, and immediately, Kira's eyelids got heavy, and before Kira knew it, she lost consciousness.
After Kira went into a deep slumber, Lythari stood up from the bed, and made her way out of the room.
As she reached the door, ready to leave the house, something, like a small voice in her head, told her to go check the kitchen, and she listened to it, turning and going to the kitchen.
When she got there, she found out that nothing had been prepared, and wondered what Kira had eaten. However, when she walked further into the kitchen, she noticed the fruit basket she had kept there earlier was less full than before.
"She must have only eaten the fruits," Lythari realized and scoffed. "This wouldn't be enough, not after everything she has been through."
Wanting to help Kira out, she set to work and began gathering ingredients to use to make a warm, nourishing meal that Kira would enjoy.
Soon, the meal was ready, and she cleaned up the kitchen right after, wiping down the counters and putting everything back in its place.
Satisfied, Lythari glanced once more at the pot, then left, heading back to her own home.
The next morning, the sunlight that streamed through Kira's window woke her up, making her squint her eyes slightly as she stirred.
"Ugh," she groaned, rubbing her forehead as she slowly sat up and rolled her shoulders.
"What happened?" She whispered and stood up from the bed, making her way to the living room.
"Lythari?" She called out, scanning the living room, but no one was there.
"She must have gone home," she murmured to herself, running a hand through her hair. "I guess I was too tired and slept off."
With a soft sigh, Kira went to the bathroom, brushed her teeth, and splashed some water on her face to freshen up. She didn't feel like showering, and so, after she was done in the bathroom, she went to the kitchen.
The moment she stepped into the kitchen, she sniffed the air, and instantly her eyes landed on the pot sitting on the stove.
Curious, she walked to the stove and lifted the lid, only for the delicious aroma of food to greet her.
"Well, good morning to you too," she muttered, a small smile forming on her lips as she realized it must have been Lythari's doing.
Without hesitation, she grabbed a bowl and severed herself, the meal still warm.
Bite after bite, Kira enjoyed the food and filled her stomach. Once she was full and had drunk enough water, she washed the bowl and shuffled back to her bedroom, where she crawled onto the bed, and flopped face down against the mattress.
