Chapter 29 I Can't Get Enough
Chapter 29 I Can't Get Enough
I woke up deep into the night, my brows furrowed. There was a single night light on, and I looked around the room, my brows furrowed. I turned on the bed, and Knox was lying next to me.
He had put a bit of distance between us, his hand resting on the space between us.
My heart broke for him. The way he was lying in fetal position, his lips half parted, his eyes closed.
He still held the innocence he always had, but his face was battered, and the bandages were now a little stained with blood.
I slipped out of bed and looked around my room and bathroom. There was no first aid kit. I walked into his room. It was clean and spotless. I looked around the drawers. Nothing.
I walked into the bathroom, and there it was, sitting on the shelf in the bathroom.
I grabbed it and walked back to my room. He was still asleep, and I quietly got into bed.
Gently, I pulled his head to my lap. He stirred but soon fell asleep again, his hand gently wrapping on the edge of my waist.
I carefully took off the last bandage, then cleaned up his wounds. Goosebumps crawled on my skin as I saw the depth of the cut on his nose. It only made me hate Alpha Kyran more.
I gently cleaned it, then put on a new bandage. I moved to the cuts on his lips and cleaned them, too, before moving to his forehead.
"Kian?"
His voice was low, inaudible.
I slowly looked down, my eyes meeting his. His eyes were sleepy and beautiful, and his lips parted in a small smile.
"What are you doing?"
I bit down on my lips. "Your wounds. They were bleeding. Does it hurt? Is that why you woke up?"
He shook his head. "Bad dream."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
He nodded, and I adjusted his head on my lap, then continued to tend to his wounds. "I am listening."
He chuckled lightly. "My mother."
I met his eyes. "You miss her? You could see her during the break."
He shook his head. "I see her every day. She is in my necklace."
It took me a while to put it together, and my lips parted. "I am sorry."
He laughed, a soft, low laugh. It was sad, beautiful, and melancholic.
"She died when I was eleven. I mistakenly set the house on fire, and she stayed to make sure I could get out."
I sucked in a sharp breath. I couldn't imagine how that must have felt, living with the guilt of being the reason his mother died.
"You look so much like Valerian," he said suddenly, reaching up to gently push my hair back. "It's almost like I am looking at him."
I smiled, nodding. "Did you fall for him, too?"
He slowly shook his head. "No. You are the first."
My eyes widened. "You mean... you have never. There are so many girls outside."
His brows furrowed a little. "I know. I am not even attracted to men. It's... new."
I nodded slowly, finishing up with the wounds. My eyes fell to the necklace he was wearing. It was a beautiful silver locket, and I could see the ashes inside of it.
"I am sorry about your mother. She loved you. That is all you should go with from now on, Knox. She weighed your life against hers and chose you. She was happy you made it. Believe me. "
His eyes immediately filled with tears. I have never seen him anything less than happy or well, worried for me. Seeing him like this... it made me want to hold him right here till he was alright again. Till he could breathe again.
"Stop," he said, blinking rapidly. "I only like you. I don't want to fall in love with you yet."
"Why?" I asked, my fingers running down to his neck to pick up the necklace.
I could see the blush that rose up his cheeks, the way his eyes held mine hungrily. The way his hand on my waist tightened.
"Because it feels like you are trying to decide between me and Eros."
My heart sank, and I looked up to his eyes. "Knox."
He gave a small smile, then shrugged. "I would have loved to hate you for it, but unfortunately, I understand. You haven't made a decision yet. That is why you are here with me. That's why you're guilty."
I swallowed hard, my fingers gently tracing the line of the necklace on his neck.
He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, then looked up to me again.
"Hold off a little longer on your decision, Kian. Please. Wait for me to make you love me before you choose."
I let my fingers run down his chest. It was the easiest solution. He was right. I would wait for Knox. The mate bond may be in favour of Eros, but my mind... it was in favour of Knox.
I let my fingers cup his face, and I slowly started to lean in.
Before I could get to him, he moved a little, stopping me from kissing him.
My brows furrowed as he turned to meet my eyes. "Don't you dare kiss me because you pity me."
I swallowed hard, then slowly nodded. His hand gently slipped under my shirt again, his eyes holding mine this time as his fingers caressed my skin.
His fingers tightened on my skin, and he pulled me, till I was hovering on him, till a mere inch of boldness and recklessness could merge us.
He let me go again, but leaned up, his forehead resting on mine, his hand cupping my neck.
His touch was possessive, intimate, his eyes dark with desire.
"I lied," he whispered against my lips. "I am in lobe with you."
It felt like my breath was cut off, and he pulled me closer, his lips brushing mine, but not quite taking it.
Before I could stop myself, my fingers wrapped around his necklace, pulling him to me as I took his lips.
I felt as he sucked in a sharp breath, his hands wrapping around me as he pulled me even closer, his lashes fluttering against my cheeks as he closed his eyes.
My breath faltered as he moaned my name into the kiss, his fingers lacing into the wig I was wearing.
When he broke the kiss, I was breathless, my eyes clouded, my chest heaving hard.
His thumb ran across the edge of my lips, and he leaned in closer, his nose touching mine.
"I can't get enough," he whispered, taking my lips again.
