Announcement

The air was filled with excitement as Victoria made her way to Sophie’s apartment. She had received a message from Sophie earlier that day, asking her to come over as soon as she could. The tone of the message had been unusually urgent, but when she arrived, Sophie greeted her with a wide smile, her eyes sparkling.

“Vic, I have something amazing to tell you!” Sophie exclaimed, practically bouncing on her feet.

Victoria raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “You look like you’re about to burst. What’s going on?”

Sophie grinned, ushering her inside. “Come on, sit down. I need to tell you something important.”

Victoria followed her into the living room, where Sophie sat down, her hands clasped together in excitement. Sophie had always been the one to dive into new adventures with a carefree attitude, but today, there was a different kind of energy in the air.

“So,” Sophie started, taking a deep breath as she looked at Victoria. “I’ve been keeping something from you… I’m engaged!”

Victoria’s eyes widened. “Wait, what? You’re… engaged?”

Sophie nodded eagerly, her smile never fading. “Yes, I am! Aaron proposed last night, and I just couldn’t wait to tell you!”

Victoria blinked, trying to process the news. She had known Sophie had been seeing someone, but this was the first she was hearing about an engagement. “Aaron? I didn’t even know things were that serious.”

Sophie laughed softly, nodding. “I know! I guess I’ve been keeping it under wraps for a while. But when you know, you know, right?”

Victoria smiled, her heart swelling with happiness for her friend. “I’m so happy for you, Sophie. You deserve all the happiness in the world.”

Sophie looked at her with an affectionate smile. “You’re always so supportive, Vic. I knew you’d be excited. Aaron’s the one. I know it.”

Victoria sat down beside her, taking in the joy radiating from Sophie. “So, when did this happen? How did he propose?”

Sophie’s eyes lit up as she leaned in, eager to tell the story. “It was perfect. We had dinner at that little Italian place we both love, you know, the one with the rooftop garden? He took me up there, and we were watching the sunset. I thought it was just a regular evening, but then he got down on one knee. I was in total shock.”

Victoria chuckled. “You must’ve been so surprised.”

Sophie nodded vigorously. “Totally! I wasn’t expecting it at all. But when I saw that ring, I just knew. I couldn’t say no.”

Victoria reached out and hugged her friend tightly. “Sophie, that’s amazing. I’m so happy for you both. He’s a great guy. You two are perfect together.”

Sophie smiled against her shoulder, clearly moved by Victoria’s words. “I’m glad you think so. You’re one of the first people I wanted to tell. Aaron is… he’s everything I never knew I needed.”

Victoria pulled away, a soft smile crossing her face. “I’m glad you found someone who makes you this happy. I can tell how much he means to you.”

Sophie nodded, her expression softening. “He does. And I can’t wait to see where this goes. We’re already talking about plans for the future. It’s scary, but in the best way possible.”

Victoria’s heart swelled for her friend. Sophie had always been the free spirit, the one who avoided anything too serious, but now here she was, planning a future with the man she loved.

“Are you ready for this?” Victoria asked gently, her voice full of warmth.

Sophie met her gaze, her eyes serious for a moment. “I think so. It’s terrifying, Vic, but I want it. I want to build a life with him. I know it won’t be perfect, but I know it’ll be worth it.”

Victoria reached for her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “It’s going to be amazing. And I’ll be right here, cheering you on every step of the way.”

Sophie smiled, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I’m so lucky to have you in my life.”

The two women sat there, talking about everything and nothing at all, as the reality of Sophie’s engagement began to settle in.

Victoria could see the future unfolding for her friend, and it made her feel hopeful for the new chapters being written in both of their lives. The love Sophie had found with Aaron was real, and Victoria could feel it in every word, every smile Sophie gave.

As the evening wore on, they began to discuss wedding plans, laughing at some of the more outlandish ideas Sophie had in mind, but Victoria knew that this was a turning point for her. Sophie had found her happiness, and now, it was her turn to support her through the biggest journey of her life.

Victoria thought about how much life had changed in such a short time—for both her and Sophie. But in this moment, as they shared a cup of tea, the future felt bright, filled with hope and possibility.

As the evening went on, Victoria could sense the excitement in Sophie’s every word. Sophie had always been the one to take life by the reins, but this was different. She was starting a new chapter, and it was clear she was ready for it.

“So,” Victoria said, leaning forward, a playful smile crossing her face, “have you started looking at venues yet?”

Sophie laughed, her eyes lighting up. “Oh, I’ve been researching venues for months. You know me, always planning ahead,” she teased, clearly thrilled by the idea of getting married. “I’ve got a few places in mind, but I still want to narrow it down. I’m thinking something small, intimate, but really beautiful. A ceremony with just close family and friends.”

Victoria nodded, her thoughts wandering to her own experiences. She had been through so much in the past few years, but seeing Sophie this happy, this in love, made everything feel like it was falling into place. “That sounds perfect,” she said softly. “It’s your day, Sophie. It should be exactly what you want.”

Sophie grinned. “Exactly. And don’t worry, you’re definitely on the guest list. I can’t imagine my wedding without you there.”

Victoria felt a warmth spread through her chest. The bond they shared had always been special, and hearing Sophie’s words made her feel grateful for their friendship. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she promised, her voice sincere.

There was a brief pause, and Sophie seemed to contemplate something for a moment before speaking up again. “You know, Vic, I’ve been thinking. You’ve been through so much these past few years, with everything that happened. I’m really proud of how strong you’ve been, how you’ve handled everything.”

Victoria looked down at her hands, her thoughts drifting back to everything she had faced. “I’ve had to be strong,” she said quietly. “For Ethan, for myself… but there were times when I didn’t know if I could do it. Still, I’m learning. And I’m getting there.”

Sophie nodded, her expression softening. “I know you are. And I admire that. I know you’ve been through a lot, and I can’t pretend to understand all of it, but I’ve always been here for you. And I always will be.”

Victoria gave her a warm smile, feeling the sincerity in Sophie’s words. “Thank you, Sophie. I really appreciate that. Sometimes it’s hard to talk about everything that’s happened, but knowing I have friends who support me makes all the difference.”

Sophie’s eyes glistened, a genuine emotion flooding her features. “You’ve been there for me through everything. And now it’s my turn to be there for you, every step of the way.”

Victoria’s heart swelled with gratitude. Sophie had always been a force of nature, someone who could light up a room with her presence, but hearing her speak from the heart in that moment made Victoria realize just how much their friendship had deepened over time.

“So,” Sophie said after a beat, clearly eager to change the subject, “enough about me. How’s everything with you and Zander? I’ve seen the way he looks at you, and I think he’s head over heels.”

Victoria felt a blush creeping up her neck, her cheeks flushing slightly. “Zander and I… we’re good. Really good. Things are moving slowly, but I think we’re both taking the time to make sure we’re on the same page. It’s different, but it feels right.”

Sophie leaned in, her voice lowering with curiosity. “Are you happy, Vic?”

Victoria thought about it for a moment, the question hitting deeper than she expected. “Yeah,” she finally said, her voice full of conviction. “I am. I didn’t think I would be after everything that’s happened, but with him… I don’t know. It feels like we’re building something solid. And Ethan loves him. That’s huge.”

Sophie’s smile softened, her eyes reflecting a deep sense of understanding. “That’s so important, Vic. You deserve to be happy, and you deserve to be with someone who treats you well, who sees you for who you are. And Zander, well, he definitely does that.”

Victoria nodded, feeling a sense of calm settle over her. “I think so too. I’m still figuring it out, but I’m willing to take it one day at a time.”

Sophie reached over and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “You deserve all the love and happiness in the world, Vic. And if anyone can make it work, it’s you.”

Victoria smiled at her, grateful for the unwavering support. “Thanks, Sophie. I appreciate it. I really do.”

The conversation drifted for a while as the two friends shared stories of their pasts, their plans for the future, and their hopes. As the evening wore on, the weight of Sophie’s announcement began to settle in for Victoria. Her friend was truly starting a new chapter, one filled with love and hope. And Victoria couldn’t be happier for her.

As they both stood up to clear away the empty tea cups, Sophie turned to her with a mischievous grin. “By the way, Vic, I’m counting on you to help me pick out my wedding dress. You’re coming with me when I start trying on options, right?”

Victoria laughed, nodding in agreement. “Of course. I wouldn’t miss it.”

The evening ended on a lighthearted note, with Sophie chattering about the wedding and her excitement over the plans. As Victoria made her way out of the apartment, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace. Sophie’s joy was contagious, and she was genuinely happy for her friend.

Walking back to her car, Victoria took a moment to reflect on how far she had come. She had been through so much, but seeing Sophie happy, seeing her find love, reminded her that life could still bring beautiful moments. She wasn’t sure what the future held for her and Zander, but in that moment, she felt optimistic about what was to come.

As she drove home, she thought about Ethan, about Zander, and about the family they were becoming. She didn’t have all the answers, but one thing was certain: she was ready to embrace whatever came next, for herself and for the ones she loved.
