The Explosive Confess
The Explosive Confess
Aaron's POV.
The gravel crunched under my boots as I strode toward the SUV, my blood still singing with a dark, restless adrenaline. I needed her away from that house. Away from the prying eyes of the servants and the suffocating shadow of my brother.
I was halfway to the driver’s side when I saw her.
Emma was leaning against the hood, her arms crossed and a look on her face that made my pulse spike for an entirely different reason. She wasn't just waiting. she was hunting. That teasing, knowing smile of hers was a warning.
"Not now, Em," I clipped out, reaching for the door handle. "We have an inventory crisis at the office. It’s important."
"An inventory crisis?" She let out a soft, melodic laugh that grated against my frayed nerves. "Is that what we're calling it now, big B? Or are we calling it 'I can't breathe if I’m not in the same room as her'?"
I froze, my hand tightening on the handle until the metal bit into my palm. "I don't have time for your riddles."
"It's not a riddle, Brother. I've seen the way you look at her when you think no one is watching. I’ve seen the way the air literally leaves the room when she walks in." She stepped closer, her voice dropping, losing its edge of mischief. "I know about you and Alina. I know about you two sneaking around."
The world seemed to tilt. My sister.
The one person I tried to shield from the filth and complexity of my life, was looking right through my armor. I waited for the judgment. For the lecture. For the reminder that she was Lucas’s wife.
Instead, she reached out and squeezed my arm. "Best of luck, Brother. I trust your decisions. I don't care what the rest of this family says... if it’s you, I know there’s a reason. I support you."
A strange, unfamiliar warmth blossomed in my chest, momentarily dousing the fire of my temper. For the first time in weeks, the crushing weight of the secret felt a fraction lighter. I reached out, ruffling her hair in a silent gesture of gratitude I couldn't put into words.
"Get inside," I muttered, though the corners of my mouth twitched with a ghost of a relieved smile.
Just then, Alina appeared. She looked like a ghost. pale, trembling, her eyes wide with a cocktail of fear and confusion. When she saw Emma giving her a thumbs-up, she looked ready to faint. She scrambled into the passenger seat as if she were stepping into a lion's den.
I didn't wait. I floored it, the tires screaming as I tore out of the driveway.
The silence in the car was a living thing, thick and suffocating. I gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles turned white. The anger was back, fueled by the way she had looked at me in the hallway. as if I were a monster she had to escape.
"Why are you playing hide and seek with me, Alina?" I asked, my voice echoing arrogantly in the cramped space.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she whispered, staring out the window.
"Don't lie to me!" I snapped, the sound like a whip crack. "Ever since Lucas came back from the hospital, you’ve been running. Avoiding my gaze. Sliding out of rooms the second I enter. You better have a damn valid reason for treating me like a stranger."
Suddenly, she snapped. She turned in her seat, her eyes flashing with a fire I hadn't seen before.
"And what does it matter if I ignore you, Aaron? What's the 'deal'?" she spat, her voice trembling with venom.
"You're going to crawl into my bed and fuck me eventually anyway, aren't you? That’s what this is! So why do I have to be around you all the time? Why do I have to play the part of the doting lover when we both know what the end goal is?"
I felt the air leave my lungs. I was completely flabbergasted, the words hitting me like a physical assault. "What?"
"Don't act surprised!" she yelled, tears of frustration gathering in her eyes. "You're just lusting over me. I’m the forbidden fruit, the 'thrill' Lucas talked about. I’m just your latest bait, and the second you get bored, you’ll move on to the next girl who catches your eye!"
Rage.
pure, unadulterated, and blinding, erupted in my gut. I slammed on the brakes, the SUV skidding to a halt on the shoulder of the deserted, moonlit road. I killed the engine, the silence that followed even more violent than the noise.
I yanked the door open and got off with a bolt speed. Before she realized what I'm doing, I dashed towards her side, pulled her out of the vehicle. Now she was slammed against the car.
my shadow looming over her in the dim light of the sun.. "You think this is all about your body?" I asked, my voice dangerously low, vibrating with the effort not to roar.
"After everything I’ve done? After the risks I’ve taken, the people I’ve silenced, the way I’ve burned for you... you think I’m doing this for a fix?"
"What else could it be?" she screamed back, shoving at my chest. "Give me one other damn reason!"
I grabbed her wrists, pinning them to the door and pulling her toward me until our breath mingled, until she had no choice but to see the raw, bleeding truth in my eyes.
"BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, DAMN IT!”
The declaration tore out of my throat, jagged and unpolished. I hauled her against me, my heart slamming against hers. I felt her entire body go rigid, her breath hitching in a silent sob of shock.
The secret was out. The noose wasn't around her neck anymore. it was around mine.
