His Confession, Her Shock

His Confession, Her Shock

“He’s out of danger. But unfortunately… he won’t be able to move on his own for the next few weeks.”

The sterile corridor seemed to sway beneath their feet as the doctor’s words cut through the silence. Merlin gasped, her knees buckling beneath her. Her husband caught her just in time, while Emma burst into quiet sobs, clinging to her father’s arm. The moment was soaked in disbelief. In pain. In a helpless horror that didn’t quite make sense yet.

Inside the ICU, Lucas was barely recognizable. Draped in white sheets, tubes webbed across his body, his face swollen, one side slightly bruised. His once-powerful aura now hollowed out and frail.

Alina stood behind the glass, still and trembling.

It wasn’t grief that twisted inside her.

It was a shock.

Shock at how everything spiraled so quickly. how a night that began with confrontation had ended with this haunting stillness.

Her body felt foreign. Her mind detached. Numbness wasn’t just in her limbs, it clung to her soul.

She didn’t even notice Merlin until a hand brushed softly through her hair. She turned and saw the older woman trying to smile through trembling tears.

“Don’t worry, dear… he’ll be okay. My son is a fighter. He won’t give up. Not now.”

Her voice was cracked, but loving. Alina’s heart twisted painfully, not because of Lucas, but because of Merlin, despite all her flaws. She loved her children fiercely. And Lucas, whatever monster he had become, was still her youngest.

Alina nodded silently and helped her to the chair, sensing how frail and shaken she was. Across the hall, Emma was quietly comforting their father. The air reeked of antiseptic and grief.

Just as Alina opened her mouth to say something, the sound of footsteps cut through the corridor. Sharp. Controlled. Dangerous.

Aaron.

He walked in like he owned the ground beneath him. His gaze met hers for only a split second. Calm, unreadable, but in that one glance, something gripped her throat.

“Mom,” he said softly, turning toward Merlin. “You and Dad should go home. Lucas is stable. There’s no point in exhausting yourselves. You need rest.”

His father, noticing how drained Merlin was, nodded quickly. “He’s right, love. Let’s return tomorrow.”

After a few more hesitant glances toward the ICU, Merlin finally agreed. Emma gave Alina a long, gentle hug before following them out, leaving behind only two.

Alina and Aaron.

The moment the door closed behind them, the silence changed. It wasn’t empty anymore. It was suffocating. Heavy with words unsaid.

She turned back to the glass, watching Lucas in his helpless state. But she wasn’t alone. She could feel Aaron standing just beside her. Close enough to burn. Close enough to consume.

“Who would’ve thought…” she said, her voice hollow. “That he’d end up like this. Just hours ago, he was threatening me like some dramatic hero. Now…” She gave a soft, bitter laugh. “Now he’s in a hospital bed.”

She meant it casually, trying to hide the war inside her chest. But what Aaron said next made her world tilt.

“Well,” he murmured, voice deep and terrifyingly calm, “he should’ve thought twice before letting his fingers leave bruises on your skin.”

Her breath caught.

Her heart stopped.

She blinked… once. Twice. Then slowly turned toward him.

“What… what did you just say?”

Aaron didn’t move. Didn’t blink. His eyes stayed fixed on the man lying unconscious inside.

“He put his hands on you,” he said, still not looking at her. “He raised his voice. He tried to control you. He made you feel small.” Finally, he turned toward her, eyes black with something that wasn’t rage, but something colder. Final.

“And that was his first and last mistake.”

Alina’s lips parted, but no sound came. The floor felt like it had disappeared beneath her feet.

“You…” she whispered, backing a little. “Aaron… what did you do?”

He stepped closer, towering over her like a shadow. “This?” he said with an almost wicked softness, gesturing toward the ICU room. “This was just a trial.”

Her knees nearly gave way.

“Anyone,” he said, voice now nothing short of lethal, “who thinks they can hurt you, who even dreams of pulling a single strand of your hair…” He paused, his gaze searing into her soul. “They will end up begging for death to come faster.”

Her eyes widened in horror. “Aaron-”

“I will protect what’s mine, Alina,” he growled quietly, the raw possessiveness in his voice slicing through her like a blade. “Even if I have to burn this world to ash. Even if I have to sell my soul to the devil himself.”

Her heart thundered violently against her ribs.

His expression didn’t flicker. It wasn’t a threat. It was a promise.

The air between them was thick, crackling with an energy too powerful to name. She opened her mouth again, but nothing came. No anger. No argument. Only a chill that crawled over her skin and burrowed deep into her chest.

Then his phone buzzed.

Aaron glanced at it, jaw flexing. Without another word, he stepped back, sliding the phone from his pocket. “I have to take this.”

And just like that, he turned and walked away, leaving her standing there, shattered and shaken.

Alina couldn’t move.

She couldn’t breathe.

Her heart was racing, her thoughts spiraling. A million questions screamed inside her, but her body refused to respond. Her hands trembled. Her stomach twisted. And yet… beneath the fear… there was something else.

Something she couldn’t name.

Because for the first time… she wasn’t afraid of what Lucas might do.

She was afraid of what Aaron had already done…

for her.

And what he’d be willing to do again.
