Chapter 65 065
Chapter 65 065
Aveline’s POV
“Am I dangerous or not?” I mumbled in frustration as I stamped my feet on the floor. I was clearly frustrated and confused about what I should do next.
I never thought confusion would suffocate me like this, but after meeting my wolf last night, everything changed. There were so many gaps, so many cracks in my memories that made absolutely no sense, and no one seemed willing to fill the voids.
“It feels like I’m forgetting something, but no one is trying to remind me,” I rasped, my thoughts drifting back to the night before back to when I’d wanted to ask my wolf everything after I shifted.
But it didn’t end well…
Flashback to the Night Before
I stared at my reflection in the lake, and my heart softened. My wolf looked breathtaking. Even though we were the same, it felt like she was someone else entirely stronger, sharper, more capable.
“Now that you’ve seen how beautiful you look, what else are you curious about?” my wolf whispered, her voice brushing my mind like a warm breeze. I froze, dumbfounded.
I had countless questions, but suddenly my mind went blank. Having my wolf, something I thought would never happen overwhelmed every coherent thought. But as I dug through the fog of emotions, one question that had been haunting me resurfaced.
“You know our mate, right?” I asked, and she immediately scowled. “Can you tell me why he’s been making such a fuss about you? About us?”
Her silence stretched long enough to make my chest tighten, but I waited. She wouldn’t leave me hanging…not this time.
“That’s because, to him, we are more than just his mate,” she purred.
Her answer only made me more clueless.
“More than just his mate? What does that even mean?” I roared inwardly, desperate for something, anything that made sense. She had to know why Draven always felt threatened, why everything around him shifted when I walked into a room.
“You’ll get to know in time,” she murmured, “but you must remember this, you cannot let anyone know you are the Silver Wolf.”
My mind froze as the truth crashed over me.
Silver.
My wolf’s fur wasn’t just different, it was radiant. Shiny silver, almost blinding, with eyes that shimmered like molten moonlight. Even I got lost staring back at myself.
But why hide something so beautiful? Why keep it a secret?
“Okay… but is there a reason?” I muttered. “We look pretty. Why hide?”
“We’re not hiding,” she whispered. “I’m protecting us. And that’s all you need to know right now.”
She was still speaking when she suddenly growled in pain, our pain so sharp it made my vision blur. I panicked. The burning sensation seared deeper, and just as I tried to soothe her, I sensed Draven approaching the lake.
My heart lurched. His presence was unmistakable.
I shifted back instantly, remembering my promise to keep our secret. I masked everything, my confusion, my terror, my curiosity, and pretended to simply enjoy the moonlit night. I buried the questions I wanted to ask…
Questions waiting to claw their way out.
Back to the Present
After we returned from the cave, Draven left for kingdom affairs, and I stayed in the garden, trying to sift through my scattered thoughts. After meeting my wolf, I finally understood what Draven meant.
My wolf wasn’t ordinary.
I had heard stories about the Silver Wolf, old myths, fading tales that were never detailed enough to take seriously. I used to dismiss them as distractions.
What an irony.
My quiet moment shattered when Sir Aldric appeared again, and I knew instantly he was up to no good. His presence alone made my skin crawl. I couldn’t believe the goddess cursed the Alpha with such a manipulative man beside him.
He attempted to start a conversation, but I cut him off sharply, hinting..very clearly that I knew he wanted to use me. He didn’t deny it.
“So what if I want something from you? Will you give me?” he murmured.
His brazenness stunned me, but not enough to shake me. I refused to let a snake like him slither into my mind or drag me into whatever game he was playing.
“I don’t know what you want from me, Sir Aldric, but I can tell you, you are never going to get it,” I said with a bow, ready to leave. But his next words rooted me to the spot.
“Did you think you climbed the social ladder by being Draven’s concubine?” he rumbled.
His words stung, but I swallowed the fire instead of letting it explode. I wanted to scream I’m not his concubine, I’m his mate! But I held myself together and turned calmly toward him.
“You think that?” I said coolly. “Then you’re right. I don’t think anything else would upgrade my maid status. Being a concubine should definitely elevate me.”
The way his face drained of color almost made me smirk.
“Why choose the hard way, Aveline,” he hissed, “when you can choose the easy one?”
“Easy way? And what’s that?”
“I’m saying you can climb the social ladder if you become the Luna of this pack. Don’t you think that status is more… fitting?”
I couldn’t help the laugh that escaped me. He really thought I was stupid.
“Yes, that’s true. I’ll just become Luna after becoming a concubine. I can do that, right?” I was taunted.
“No. I’m going to make you a Luna, so you don’t have to..”
“Make me Luna?” I whispered. “You aren’t even the Alpha. How can you make me Luna?”
His expression crumbled.
He thought I was an easy target, someone he could manipulate, someone naïve enough to carry out his ambitions. He was wrong.
“So that’s what he’s getting wrong,” I mumbled as I walked out of the garden, leaving Aldric drowning in his own stupidity. “I’m not the old Aveline. I’m not waiting for him to save me. I will save both of us.”
I left the garden with a new resolution, found out the mystery behind my wolf's identity, and then helped Draven take out his enemy..as if I could do that.
