"We have to send your mother out of the country," Rodriguez uttered, eyes scanning Theressa's expression.
It was almost midnight and Marcelo and Theressa were both in his study. Theressa had joined Marcelo in his study after having little conversation with her little mother. She couldn't bring herself to say anything about the events of the day, she had lied to her mother about traveling out of the town for a business meeting. It wasn't totally a lie though, she was indeed at a meeting but the details of the meeting had to be blurred out.
Rodriguez was sat on his office chair, two fingers across his jaw as he watched Theressa pass his office desk once, twice, three times, four times. Her legs were restless, she couldn't sit not when a lot of problems laid on the ground for her.
"I have a safe house in Malaysia, we can send her there and have her watched to ensure her safety" Rodriguez suggested, his tone calm, eyes soft as he felt guilty for bringing Theressa into his mess.
Rodriguez still had some bandages and plasters, but to himself he was fit for anything he was fit to return to his position, to get Theressa out his mess but the paper had already been signed at his back.
If only a few or less than ninety percent of the members had signed it, Marcelo wouldn't have Theressa going through such torture. It was a rule in their world that once all is against one, one would have to succumb to their decision. However, she for a mafia leader, they could decide to eliminate anyone against his decision or eliminate everyone. Marcelo had that power but his plans would be ruined, Theressa wasn't in his plan, Theressa wasn't supposed to be in this mess, but his father had begun acting up and Theressa was a medium to push his buttons and Marcelo just have to go on while doing his best to keep Theressa safe.
His thirst for revenge was clearly greater than his care for anyone. As much as Marcelo cared for Theressa and didn't want her to get hurt, he has a priority. To find out, to revenge.
"I can't send my mother out of my sight…" Theressa trailed as she took a halt in walking m, facing Marcelo who was seated.
"She has been in the hospital for months. I can't live her all alone in a country where she has no one to relate with, no family, no company. She needs me" Theressa gestured emphatically with her hands, her voice rising in frustration as she attempted to explain her point, her brows furrowed and her eyes searched Marcelo's face.
Marcelo had gotten to his feet as he walked to Theressa, a whirlwind of emotions sweeps through him, a pang of concern mixed with guilt, a tightening in his chest seeing his kitten in distress.
"Theressa she would be fine, trust me" Marcelo reassured her, his hand caressing her arm through the silk night ware as she looked into his eyes. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, appearing glass and slightly watery. There's a heaviness in her gaze, as if the weight of her emotions pressed down on her.
Marcelo took her into a hug, stroking her hair as they both felt the warmth in each other's embrace, the comfort in each other's embrace.
"Just trust me" Marcelo whispered before Marcelo left a kiss on Theressa's ear.
It took more than seconds and some minutes to calm Theressa down.
But even as Theressa's tears dried up, Theressa's chest was still tight at the thought of letting her mother go, she still felt frightened by Mr Olivia's question. It was normal for such people to dig up the life of their rivals.
Mr Olivia must have found out by digging up on her but his question disturbed her as it weighed heavily on her mind.
Theressa's father was a principle man, he never hurt a fly not to talk of a human. If Theressa could describe her father's crime book she would pull out a clean sheet of A4 paper void of any lines. That's just how clean Theressa's father's record was.
They both separated from the hug as Theressa muttered a "thank you".
Rodriguez had pushed some strands of her hair behind her ears, wiping the streaks of tears on her face. Theressa was absolutely stunning with her teary face, eyes wet and her wet lashes that blinked across her eyes, her rosy cheeks and her plump lips, her face was puffy from the tears she had shed in Rodriguez arms.
"What happened to the car?" Theressa asked, wanting to switch up the mood to get herself distracted.
Marcelo stretched his hands to his desk, grabbing his phone as he pulled it to himself, unlocking the phone to show Theressa what had been sent to him.
Theressa gasped, her eyes almost balling out as her lips parted wide. She was in disbelief, more frightened as she imagined her inside that flattened car. The black car was in a between two heavy metals crushed to the ground.
"Why? I mean who?" Theressa stammered, her hand over her mouth as she couldn't tear her gaze from the image on Marcelo's phone.
Theressa had noticed the message came from an unknown number but it wasn't connecting something wasn't connecting.
"Someone close" Marcelo uttered, eyes fixed on his entrance door as if waiting for someone's arrival.
"I don't understand" Theressa's brow furrowed as she gazed back and forth between Marcelo and the entrance door.
"It's someone you and I know" Marcelo folded his arm as he rested on his desk.
"But why did they do that, it doesn't seem like they wanted karden or I dead" Theressa was trying to grapple with the situation but her brain just couldn't help her in any way of thinking at the moment.
"They needed to lure me out, they wanted to get a reaction from me to know how much I care about you" Marcelo explained, his eyes still fixed on the door. Theressa knew this wasn't the moment to blush, but she couldn't help it after hearing those words spill fluently out of Marcelo's lips.
The door slightly opened, slowly. Theressa could not help but feel more curious and anxious than before, her heard skipped beats, eyes squinted and fixed on the wooden designed door.
The suspense in the room was thick, as Theressa hoped it wasn't who she was thinking about
Could it be George? George was the most closest and also knew about Rodriguez been out of the hospital. That would be a big betrayal to Marcelo, a family's betrayal can never be compared to an outsider.
And finally the figure had walked in, a very much familiar figure and Theressa could only gasp at the sight of the unexpected female before her.
