Chapter 71 Late Confession

Chapter 71 Late Confession
The whole auction room suddenly got crowded as multiple henchmen from every Flavian family who had been standing outside the room on guard flooded the auction room at the sound of a live shot.

They all rushed in to grasp the situation of things inside the auction room and as well serve as a bodily shield to protect their respective bosses, after all that was what they were hired to accomplish; protect their boss.

But everything went silent for me and the only tingle churning in my ears were Rafael’s words.

His words were like echoes within the walls of my ears and they wouldn’t dare to leave without waving a mark on my heart.

“That woman cannot be bought with money, she is fucking priceless!” His growl had continued to resonate within me, blooming a luxurious monument and warming up my heart.

Rafael, not for once had he raised a bid for my sake, not because he couldn’t place a bidding on me to be priced as my worth and the ridiculous billion dollars bid Sergie DeLuca had called had just backfired as Pedro, the host of the auction layer in his own pool of blood, his eyes wide open as the last emotion he had felt was shock due to the shot of the bullet from Santiano’s gun lodging into his head from behind and shooting out into the skull of his forehead.

With anger flashing through Sergie DeLuca like lightning as he watched Santiano from the distance where he had been standing enough to deliver an accurate shot at Pedro, he gritted his teeth and ducked immediately, predicting Santiano’s next move to be another shot which was meant for him this time.

Santiano clicked at the trigger of the gun in his hand, firing the series of bullets lodged inside the magazine at Sergie DeLuca without stopping until it was empty.

The other men in the room, sending the current war between Santiano Rafael Devereux and Sergie DeLuca, began to take cover, finding themselves out of the auction room at once in order not to get caught up in a family war their family had nothing to do with.

As the auction took turned into a pandemonium of abstract disruption, my eyes scaled at Rafael who had lowered his gun briefly before tossing it away and pulling another gun out of nowhere to aim at hus target— Sergie DeLuca who had scrambled towards a pillar to hide behind it before pulling out his own gun from one of the pockets inside his coat.

I could see him cock up the chamber of his magazine to check how many bullets he had left in the chamber of his gun before slamming it shut.

Rafael had started to move towards the stage, successfully evading ramming into the bush bodies making for a run inside the auction room with his gun still aimed at the direction Sergie DeLuca had hus himself in.

Sergie was nervous behind the pillar, but he also seemed to be in control of what he wanted to do next.

With the way he balanced the gun in his hand and keen observation of Santiano’s movements, I knew immediately when he was going to make his move at Rafael.

And when the clock ticked for Sergie DeLuca to make his move, I jumped out of my corner to give Rafael a warning signal, but that was a very stupid and ridiculous move I had thought would help save him, but instead, my sudden outburst only caused a distraction to him and in that brief moment that Rafael looked away from his initial target but towards me, Sergie DeLuca took that as his cut was if he had also predicted my own callous attempt to get Rafael’s attention to alert him of the rat’s whereabout.

Sergie suddenly jumped out of his hiding spot, aiming his shit at Rafael in the flash of an eye and firing his shots without hesitation.

I screamed without the container I had been restricted in from the beginning, my cry hurling out of my throat witj a scream against the walls of the container that could have easily caused me to turn deaf, my scream never made it out of the container nor did it get to Rafael.

All long, the container I had been on display in was sound proofed and it made me realize why Rafael had not heard me call on to him when I had seen him walking in with his men earlier that night before the auction started.

Soon, the distraction I had caused for Rafael got to him. Sergie DeLuca wadded out of his hiding spot, firing shots at Santiano with excellent precision.

In an instant, the auction turned bloody as every henchmen began firing shots at their rivals. Santiano’s men had also crowded the tom, heading towards Santiano before he pummeled to the floor, suffering a shot straight from Sergie DeLuca’s gun.

With a series of bullets flying around in the room, my heart dropped into my stomach as I watched Rafael grasp his side, the black shirt he had been wearing taking a much darker and wet hue as his blood began to flush out of his open wound which he had suffered from Sergie DeLuca’s shot.

As I watched him manage to keep his aim straight towards Sergie DeLuca’s direction, I could feel his strength failing and all he wanted to do at that moment was look at me.

Is this going to be the end for him? I had thought, my tears crawling down my face unconsciously while a thousand needles stung my heart.

I couldn’t bear to see this man hurting and he had been hurt because of my callous act.

If I hadn’t made for an escape, Rafael wouldn’t have been shot and we both would be fine in each other's arms, our scents rubbing off on each other with the spaces in between filled with the love I have for him.

As I watched him with a retching heart, I couldn’t comprehend the pain I was feeling within me but one thing was for sure, this feeling coursing through me at that moment could not be measured with what I had felt when Dylan Smith was shot.

This was different and it felt like my life would end if this man Santiano Rafael Devereux died at that moment- right in front of him.

And now, I might have realized it a little too late, that I am in love with him.
