Chapter 70 THE END OF THE AUCTION
Chapter 70 THE END OF THE AUCTION
My face glistened, my heart tightening within my chest as I heard the familiar voice call a billion dollars as the price they wanted to place a bid on me.
A little uproar of cluster gast of surprise from the women rented the air briefly, the enormous amount spoken at once grabbing their attention the moment the words ringed through their ears and they all began to look towards the end of the room as the bidder made his way through the aisle of already occupied seats in all his glory, heading towards the stage.
The Asian man whom Lara had called Oyabun Takeshi upon sighting him fell back into his seat, his resolve faltering as though he had been defeated even before the fight for the black pearl had begun.
The Don of the Russian Mafia, Vorovskya Voina pulled his cigar away from his lips, slowly exhaling the drag he had taken from it by letting the puff escape from in between his teeth which were solemnly gritting against each other.
How eyes turned blue, the dim lights they had absorbed giving out a crimson shine as the bidder walked past him, moving a little towards the stage before he mounted to a stop, gazing at the men seated for the auction.
“Today, your luck will be reborn,” he said to the host of the auction—Pedro, who visibly could not control his excitement any longer.
“You are one lucky man, Pedro and it has been a pleasure doing this business with you.” He added with a lazy grin.
“The Black Pearl— La Perla Nera is sure to go for a billion dollars!” Lara announced with sheer excitement, her face darting toward the crowd to see if anyone was bold enough to counter the hit bid.
“Last call, gentlemen…” She said after a minute which was filled with grunting and clustered chattering rolled by, daring someone, anyone to counter this bid.
“1 billion dollars, going once… going twice… sold! The Black Pearl— La Perla Nera is sold to Sir Sergie DeLuca, for 1 billion dollars!”
I fell back further into my holding cell, the look of disappointment boldly written all over my face as I began to wonder what could be going on.
Apparently, what was going on was as clear as day and I had just been sold— not to anyone but Sergie DeLuca, the same man who had sworn he would own me by buying me.
He had only made a bid once, surpassing the other bidding prices like it was nothing to him. It felt easy for him to throw wads of dollars in his name just to claim me for himself and get back at Santiano but this man Rafael, not even for once did he try to make a price for me.
He was just there, his presence as mere as nothing— putting me on a table for the mafias to play with. I was merely nothing more than a Mafia's Plaything.
I fumbled within myself, hurling my fists hard as I could feel the anger brewing within me. I should be in his care, he had taken me for himself against my wish and he couldn't do anything to protect me from these people? This man Sergie DeLuca who had just paid a price for my head?
Rafael should be responsible for my safety. After all, I was totally alone in an Italian city I had only come to have my wedding at and he had abandoned me to my fate without even trying?
Was Rafael trying to get back at me because I had tried to get away from him by escaping? Was he really going to let another man take me away while he watches with nothing to do?
What about his promises to me? He had said I could never get away from him as he would always find me and deduce my efforts and attempts to leave him to a waste, but here I am, slipping out of his fingers while he watched and he wouldn't do anything about it.
I have never seen him that helpless in the presence of other men or maybe I had assumed him to be what he wasn't. Maybe he wasn't the ruthless Mafia boss I had thought he was in the face of other Mafia families.
In the blink of an eye after Lara had closed the bid for the Black Pearl, Pedro sprang up to his feet immediately, heading towards Sergie DeLuca to hand him the key to unlock the cage I was in.
And as well shake hands with him for the completion of their deal to bring Santiano Rafael Devereaux down by taking his woman from him in broad daylight while he was also watching which would also help fatten the Pedro family's treasury and business as his own share of the bargain between his family and the Martini DeLuca family.
“Congratulations, Sergie DeLuca,” Pedro greeted Sergie, sharing his hands like they had been close acquaintances all their lives. “The woman is now you—”
Hardly had he tried to finish these words that the shot of a gun blared into existence, silencing the endless chattering that had erupted to congratulate Sergie DeLuca on his fine buy.
The women amongst the men let out frantic scares as the shot went live, directly towards the stage. Lara, who was still standing by the stage, took cover in fear and the men who had flanked her to guard her on the stage dived towards her to help her take cover.
Suddenly, Sergie DeLuca's blood turned cold as the man before him- Pedro began to slip out of his view, a headshot cleanly lodged into his head from behind.
Sergie's eyes darted towards the angle the shit had her fired from and he wasn't any surprised to see a wisp of smoke floating out of the top of Santiano Rafael Devereaux's gun and the words he had on his lips were,
“That woman cannot be bought with money. She is fucking priceless!”
