Chapter 41 AN ESCAPE FROM THE MAFIA BOSS
I rushed towards the bed at once, grabbing the letter to read. I unfolded the folded sheet, reading the words written in the paper.
It was an escape plan, carefully tailored to the situation of things with the urgent business Rafael and his men had to handle that evening.
The plan had changed according to Leah and I had to leave the Devereaux mansion that night.
My heart tightened with both joy and fear— a paradoxical emotion as I was glad I would finally be on a boat that sailed to freedom while also with fear being a dominant variable in my field of emotions as the thought of the escape being nerfed troubled the humble sea within me.
I looked around the room, searching for something I knew I wouldn't find. After all, I had gone into this mansion with nothing and so, I shall leave with nothing.
Then, when I was sure I was ready, I began to pull off my dress. According to the words of Leah in the letter, I will have to abandon all sentiments and run through the hallway without my dress— yes, she had written that in the letter.
I had to go through the hallway naked to make my escape easier. On a normal day, I would have found this as absurd, but at that moment, it really doesn't matter to me.
I quickly stepped out of the dress, took a deep breath in as I couldn't believe I was already on a boat for my escape from the Devereaux family mansion, away from Santiano Rafael Devereaux's life forever.
Before I jumped out of the room, my naked reflection in the mirror pulled me back and I began to rethink the cause I was about to fall into.
It was absolutely ridiculous to run about in someone else's mansion without any clothes on and besides, not every single one of Rafael's men had left the house with him.
Before he left for the Pedro's family casino, he had put Marco in charge of the mansion. Marco had been injured so he could only control commands in the house with some of the men still present.
I shook my head at the thought of this, letting my hair down to cover the soft plums on my chest as I stood before the mirror, a little bit nervous yet full of hope undefined.
If Leah's calculations according to what she had written in the letter was correct, then I won't have to worry about running through the hallway naked because no one would see me.
I took a deep breath in again, before grabbing the door knob. I gave it a gentle squeeze and pushed the door open, stepping into the hallway with no clothes on.
My heart was racing, but my legs were better racers— for a fact faster than a single beat of my heart.
According to the letter, there was no way I would make it out of the mansion fully clothed because there were surveillance cameras everywhere and I possibly couldn't evade every single camera in the mansion, so the first move to pull was to get rid of all the cameras so my escape route wouldn't be on record.
Getting rid of all the cameras was an impossible task for both Leah and myself, but the plan was to make Rafael's men get rid of the cameras by themselves and for them to do this, I had to go about naked.
As crazy as it may sound or look, I was quick to realize it really was for the best as the men wouldn't want to look upon the bare skin of the woman their boss was in love with or get my movement in my skin on record.
When the cameras were down, I was to head to the kitchen where a secret back door would be opened for me to go through which I presumed Leah would be waiting by.
The front door would have been heavily guarded before my arrival, so a decoy would have been prepared right in time.
As I hurried down the hallway, my heart was racing at each possibility of a variable coming into existence.
Suddenly, one of the house guards showed up from a distance, slowly approaching me from the end that led to the stairs.
My heart skipped a bit, the thought of him seeing me all bare skinned was mortifying and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed even before he was prone to notice this abnormality.
I suddenly began to contemplate taking off to the room I had just left, just to escape this feeling of being caught walking naked, but I braced myself up for what was coming.
If I couldn't do this much, then my chances for an escape were hanging in the balance. After all, making sure one of the guards saw me was also part of the plan.
The man finally could picture what was coming up towards him, realizing it was me, fear seized him up at once as he sighted me from afar. He gulped hard and quickly turned away, walking as far away from me as he could, but I followed after him and he could hear my running footsteps behind him, forcing him to hasten up.
I suddenly could hear him speak into his walkie talkie.
“The boss' woman is on the move. I cannot get close to her because she's apparently naked.” He reported quickly into the device, his tone full of fear and urgency.
Suddenly, a siren blarred into existence through the entire mansion. It was an alarm to alert all in-house workers and guards and then the next moment, I could hear a familiar voice speak through the in-house sound system.
It was Marco.
“Attention, everyone, the boss’ woman is trying to make for an escape at this hour and losing her means death for us,” Marco spelt out, his tone growing impatient with a hint of what could be fear.
I could hear the rushing footsteps of multiple people towards me, and I knew it at once— they were coming.
