Chapter 112 Dead abyss!
Chapter 112 Dead abyss!
|| Author POV ||
The sight before Killian made the world crash down. His soul nearly tore itself from his body.
Water has pooled across the floor and she–she was submerged in the bathtub motionlessly. Drowned under the waters.
His mind went blank.
“Hell!”
Killian ripped toward her before gripping her arm with every ounce of strength and pulled her out of the water.
His hand slid under her waist, picking her up. She was limp, heavy and lifeless in his arms. His coat was instantly drenched. Water dripping onto the tiles.
Rosa’s cold cheek pressed against his chest. Panic clawed at Killian and he dashed out of the washroom. He laid her drenched body on the bed and dropped to his knees beside her.
“Come on. Come on, Wake up!” he barked desperately.
Killian shook her gently, rubbing her cheeks. His mind spiraled. Her eyelids stayed shut. He grabbed her wrist, searching desperately for a pulse.
Nothing.
His stomach dropped and chest tightened. Frozen, he could barely breathe.
Killian’s hands froze for a split second. Then instinct took over. He swallowed and pressed his palms firmly against her chest and pushed.
“Come on. Breathe. Please, come back to your sense!” he muttered hoarsely.
Killian pressed his palms hard against her chest, pushing down. He counted in his mind, compressing and releasing over and over, trying to force her heart to respond.
His free hand tilted her head back, pinching her nose, covering her mouth with his and blowing sharply, then repeated rescue breaths over and over.
His eyes never left her face, scanning for the faintest flutter, any sign that she was fighting back. The room felt smaller. The sound of water dripping from the bathtub echoed like thunder in his ears.
“Fucking open your eyes! Miss Sinclair!”
His hands moved with desperate rhythm. Each second stretched into an eternity.
“Wake the fuck up. WAKE THE FUCK UP! Don’t you fucking dare to leave me!”
His chest heaved. Sweat dripped down his temple. He pressed his mouth against hers again, forcing air into her lungs. He continued the CPR with urgent precision.
Then, suddenly a faint tiny cough broke the silence.
Killian froze. A second later, Rosa’s body jerked weakly and she sputtered, coughing up water. Relief crashed into him like a tidal wave.
He instantly slid his arms beneath her and pulled her up against his chest.
Rosa’s body trembled violently in his arm. Her face was ghostly pale, streaked with water and sweat and her lips were trembling, lashes stuck to wet skin.
She coughed harder, choking out the remnants of the water in her lungs.
Killian held her tighter against his chest. His own breath hoarsely fanned against her damp hair. Rosa’s lashes fluttered weakly. Her skin was hot, almost burning.
Her half-lidded eyes glazed over his chest. Her vision was blurry and breath rattled weakly before her body went limp again, slipping back into unconsciousness in exhaustion.
Killian yanked his phone from his pocket. Water still dripped down his sleeves. He stabbed at the screen, dialing with desperation.
“Chris, get the doctor to the mansion right fucking now!” he roared, veins bulging on his neck.
\----
The room was thick with silence, broken only by the ticking of the clock and the rustle of the doctor’s gloves.
Rosalie lay motionless on Killian’s bed. Her drenched clothes were replaced by dry ones.
Her petite frame looked even smaller against the vastness of his sheets. The lady doctor leaned over her and pressed the stethoscope to her chest, checking for stability.
Killian stood at the bedside with his arms crossed tightly over his chest. His eyes were dead cold. His eyes refused to blink as they stayed locked on her pale face.
“She’s out of immediate danger.” the doctor said calmly, placing the stethoscope back around her neck. “but her body’s exhausted. The shock and water intake weakened her system. She has developed a high fever...likely from the shock and being submerged in cold water for too long.”
“She needs to rest.” the doctor continued, adjusting the blanket carefully over the girl’s frail body.
She packed her kit.
“I’ll prescribe something for the fever, but it’s crucial she stays hydrated and calm. Keep her warm, and... please do not leave her alone.” Her tone turned more serious even though she was shaking in the presence of the devil.
The doctor hesitated for a moment, then added quietly, “This looks like a... self-harm, perhaps. She needs care, not pressure. If she suffers another collapse like this, her body might not hold up. She’s very weak.”
Chris stepped into the room. His eyes immediately landed on Killian’s still figure. The doctor gave Chris a slight nod before turning toward Killian.
“I’ll leave the prescription with him.” she said quietly while bowing.
Chris escorted her out, leaving Killian alone. Killian didn’t move. His gaze stayed locked on her closed eyes.
The world outside ceased to exist for him. Every sound, every movement was swallowed by the steady, fragile rhythm of her breathing.
\---
The doctor handed the prescription to Chris and left. Chris turned just in time to see Killian descending the stairs with a stoned expression.
The air between them was heavy. Chris finally decided to open his mouth.
“Don’t you think you’re pushing her too far?”
Killian’s jaw tightened and his steps slowed but he didn’t reply. Quietly, he took the prescription from Chris’s hand.
“You’re going to kill her at this rate.” Chris added.
Killian glanced at him with sharp cold eyes.
He straightened. His shoulders were stiff and eyes hollow. “That’s none of your concern.” he muttered deeply.
Chris let out a slow exhale. “I know...but she almost took her life. I thought you didn’t want that.”
Killian’s gaze locked with his. For a moment, Chris saw a glimpse of emotion–something almost human behind the usual cold. He didn’t know what that emotion was in Killian’s eyes.
Killian stayed cold and oddly quiet but his eyes told a different story. Hollow, yet full of unspoken words. Killian was lost in his thoughts, overwhelmed by everything on his mind.
His unreadable eyes stayed fixed on Chris. He didn’t respond, not even a twitch.
“I know I shouldn’t meddle in your personal life. But from what I’ve seen, she’s fragile, too fragile to keep up with...you. I don’t know how things are going on between you two, but I know enough that she’s too traumatized to handle it. And what she did today was immature. She tried once, she’ll try it again.”
Killian just stared at Chris silently. He didn’t know what he was even feeling anymore.
“You need to give her space. And I was informed that our men saw strangers lurking around the mansion.”
Killian let out a dry chuckle, blinking away. He knew Albert was continuously trying. That was why he had reinforced the security system.
“And her mid-term exams are coming up soon.” Chris added.
Silence.
Chris let out another sigh and glanced around, then gave a small nod. “I’ll be going then. I told the maid, she’ll look after her.”
\----
Lilia touched Rosa’s forehead. “You’re burning up.”
She glanced at the girl who sat silently against the bedpost with unfocused eyes, staring at nothing.
“Why would you do something like that?” Lilia sighed then continued softly “Do you have any idea what would have happened if he hadn’t come in time?”
Rosa didn’t answer. Her sad eyes seemed lost, distant. She herself didn’t know the answer. All she remembered was laying in the bathtub, trying to calm herself but her memories had overwhelmed her. She hadn’t even realized when she slipped into the water.
She felt ashamed.
Lilia tried to feed her, but Rosa neither moved nor spoke. Her lips stayed sealed as if she’d lost her voice.
With a small sigh, Lilia set the tray aside and rose to her feet. She blinked seeing Killian at the door. She gave a polite bow to Killian before leaving the room.
Killian’s dead eyes slowly moved to Rosalie.
