Chapter 89 PROM 3
I was left with Charlotte's horrible attitude after Isabelle left to answer a call. I thought I'd be able to handle it, but she could never stop talking, especially when it was to insult me.
"I don't know why you're so angry I'm here anyways, it's not like she can't hang out with her friend too." Charlotte scowls up at me as I stand with my hand in my pocket and the other on my phone.
I didn't want to exactly speak to her at all right now, and just wanted to wait for Elara to come back, so I ignore her words.
If she had nothing good to say I wasn't going to bother talking her. She stops talking, and I can finally focus on listening to the music and not her voice.
"Would you just tell me why you hate me so much?" She blurts, pushing my phone down to my side. I sigh before pulling my hand back up to its original spot.
" Why do you want my attention so bad? Don't you think you already went too far with that kiss?" I scowl, ignoring the disbelief covering her face.
Are you kidding me? I don't want your attention, but if you and Isabelle are so close your going to have to stop being such a bitch around me." She spits out, her eyes burning with rage now.
" And that kiss meant nothing, I was drunk. Are you delusiona-?" Charlotte stops talking, looking behind me with annoyance. I look at her before turning around to see my friends walking up to me.
" Well, you have fun cooling down." I say, giving her a fake half smile before turning towards my friends.
I probably shouldn't have just left her, but who cares. It was prom, she could go find her other friends.
"Brody's bitch got knocked up by Donny Hughes." Alex rushes out to me as the other guys start talking about the same thing over each other.
My face contorts into one of shock when I see him slumped over Owen's shoulder, his eyes bloodshot red.
"I'm going to fuck him up!" He yells, trying to push out of Owen's grip who was attempting to shut him up so he wouldn't get in trouble for not being sober. Brody was a big guy though, I was surprised Owen could hold him back so easily.
" She wasn't worth it, Brody." I say, trying to calm him down but he just shakes his head, covering his face with his hand.
" Fuck man, she's known for months and tells me after I caught feelings." He slurs out.
"I'll go take him to the bathroom, we'll be back." Owen sighs, dragging Brody towards the men's bathroom. My jaw ticks, knowing Donny was one of Brody's closest friends.
The guys change subjects almost instantly, but I completely lose my focus when I look towards where I was standing with Charlotte earlier.
She was still standing there all alone, looking around for someone. When she doesn't find the person she chews the inside of her cheek, crossing her arms over each other.
I freeze when she suddenly catches my eyes. She looks towards me for a moment before throwing a middle finger up at me, rolling her eyes, and turning towards the drink table beside her.
What was wrong with her?
"Wayne, we called you three fucking times."
Alex says, and my head quickly turns back towards them.
" Yeah, what is it?" I say, but he just gives me a suspicious look.
" Why were you staring at Randolph, already tired of the street bitch?" He laughs, and when the other guys listen in laughing on top of him I could feel my jaw ticking.
I wasn't the type of guy to fight anyone. I wasn't weak, I just never thought it was worth it. But the punch I wanted to throw at Alex's face right now was about to go against anything I ever said.
The look on my face causes Alex to drop his smile when he realizes I wasn't laughing. "Go think about why you don't have a date instead of talking about mine."
I say, pushing past his shoulder hard as he stumbles back
" Come on, I was just joking!" He yells out behind me. I sigh as I walk towards Charlotte, who was still standing alone as she held a cup of sparkling juice in her hand.
"Why are you alone?" I ask, only getting a short glance from her as she shrugs, taking another sip from her drink.
" Are you seriously giving me the silent treatment?" I ask, scoffing as I look down at her.
"No, you don't deserve that from me." She says, downing the rest of her drink. I look down at her cup before moving my eyes to her purse that would barely close.
"That's not juice is it?" I ask, looking back up at her.
" Who do you think I am?" She says, patting her purse with a small smile.
" Fucking alcoholic." I mumble under my breath, hoping to get a reaction out of her.
It works, because her eyes instantly turn into a glare as she elbows me, harder than I thought she was capable of.
"You know, your strong for someone so..." I groan, trying to get my breath back from the hard hit she'd just targeted on my rib.
"So what?" She threatens, glaring up at me. How could someone so short have such a big attitude and anger issues all in one.
"Nothing." I say, a small smile reaching my face that causes her to look at me confused.
"You need an anger management cla-" I don't finish when she gets ready to elbow me again.
This time I'm prepared though as I grab her arm, holding them in place before she attacks.
"I'm perfectly fine, you make me have anger issues." She scowls, snatching her arm back and pulling her phone out.
" How long is Elara going to be on that call for?" Charlotte sighs. I wasn't thinking too much about it, since it was probably an important call but she was gone for a while by now.
She was okay, right?
" I'll start looking for her, you check upstairs." Charlotte sighs, moving through the crowd as she starts looking for Elara.
I look for a good couple minutes, until deciding I'd just call her instead as I turn every hall upstairs, hoping to catch her somewhere.
The phone continues to ring as I walk through random halls, hoping she wasn't in trouble. Why wasn't she answering the damn phone?
I push past everyone in the halls, feeling relieved when I turn the corner and see her familiar dark brown hair and pink dress standing by a wall in an empty hallway.
My steps slow down, and my hand carrying my phone suddenly drop to my side. The sinking feeling of my stomach was new to me as I watch her lips move against my brothers.
My finger move to slowly hang up the call, as I watch them, my jaw clenched.
She wasn't in trouble Or on an important call.
She wasn't with her date either
Those matching bracelets weren't a coincidence I wasn't overthinking anything.
"I looked everywhere on the main floor I can't find her!" I could hear Charlotte talking as she ran up behind me, but she stops when she sees me looking straight ahead.
She looks confused for a moment before looking towards them.
"Oh." She whispers out, looking back up at me with sad eyes.
My jaw clenches as I turn my gaze away from them, walking back towards the stairs. I run a frustrated hand through my hair as a scoff leaves my mouth, still in disbelief.
If I knew one thing about Isabelle, it was that she wasn't one to just fuck around, it should've been obvious who she was actually interested in.
Maybe I got too caught up in my own feelings when she looked at me, or spoke in that soft voice of hers. Maybe I was too distracted looking at her beautiful smile to notice she was never interested
in me that way.
But out of everyone, it had to be Calvin.
And the worst part? I didn't know how long they'd been like this for, how long they kept it a secret for.
Why didn't she just tell me she fucking liked him?
When I finally walk outside towards the edge of the huge pond, I take in a deep breath, looking around as I try to process everything.
Loosening my tie I tighten the grip around my phone. I felt stupid for not noticing sooner, but the ache in my heart after seeing her lips on him don't fail to push all my anger away.
"Wayne!"
I sigh out in annoyance when I recognize it as Charlotte's voice. I'm about to tell her to leave, until I turn around and see the worried look on her face as she struggles trying to run up to me with her heels.
Her breaths are heavy when she finally makes it up to me, until she trips over her heel and completely falls into the clear blue pond with a loud scream.
I was too late in trying to catch her, and can only watch in pity as I watch her get soaking wet. I expect her to cry or something, but she just looks down at her wet clothes before a laugh leaves her mouth.
I watch her like she's insane as she laughs and splashes the water. " It feels good! Wanna come in?" She asks, smiling up at me.
" No, I'm good." I scowl, wondering why she was enjoying this.
" Fine, at least help me up." She grumbles, holding her hand out to me. I don't say anything as I move my hand around her reached out wrist to pull her up.
I'm not prepared when she suddenly drags me forward with all her force, causing me to lose my balance and fall into the water.
I glare up at her, looking down at my wet clothes.
"Really?" I scowl, looking up to see a satisfied look on her face.
"That's for all the disrespectful things you've said to me." She shrugs, acting as if she was any better.
I scoff, turning my head to the side before clenching my jaw.
Fine, she wanted to play this game?
I can tell she's noticed what I'm about to do when she suddenly widens her eyes, attempting to turn around and run away but I'm quicker and grab her waist.
" Wayne don't do it! Oh I'm so getting revenge you assho-!" She screams, but I don't let her finish when I dunk her entire body under the water.
When she comes back up she gasps for air, giving me a murderous glare as she charges towards me, splashing water at my face and yelling at me to come close so she could drown me.
" Fine, drown me!" I yell, giving up when she refuses to stop chasing me. Charlotte smiles in satisfaction, reaching to push me under the water.
I hear the evil laugh leaving her mouth as she pushes me in, but as I'm going down I drag her down with me.
When we both reach the surface again, she instantly moves to try to drown me again but I quickly stop her, holding her waist tight.
"Let's just call a truce, calm down you animal." I say, wondering why she looked so flushed. I'm confused for a moment until I look at how close she was to me, and my hands still wrapped around her waist.
Charlotte splashes water all over my face, pushing away from me and quickly getting out of the water. I follow her out, wondering why she left so quick.
There was no way my phone was still working, but Charlottes bag had fallen off her shoulder before it'd gotten into the water so her phone was safe.
I watch as she ignores me, typing on her phone, the silence causing my head to remind me of what happened earlier.
Reality settles in as the couple minutes of fun I just had completely go away.
"It would never work, you know that?" Charlotte says, looking at me with her phone down now.
" What do you know?" I say, removing my wet suit jacket that was starting to bother me.
" When has a one sided relationship ever worked, Wayne ?" She says in a duh tone, and I clench my jaw wanting to ignore her words but knowing it was true.
It was out of my control who she liked, it was just hard to accept. Everything I felt over these past months was never how she felt towards me.
I push away my thoughts as I look down at the time reading half past midnight. They had prom running until one am, but I had no reason to stay any longer so I dig for my keys.
"Are you leaving?" Charlotte asks when I find my keys, holding them in my hand.
" Yeah, I'll give you a ride home." I say, and she nods her head, moving to walk beside me as we go towards my car back around the front of the venue.
