Chapter 54 WHERE I DON’T BELONG OR MAYBE I DO
~Elara~
Elara! My steps pause as I stand, my hands still dripping with blood onto the tray and my head low. I knew who it was just by the voice.
I heard his feet against the floor, the sound of his heavy breaths, and then there he was, standing in front of me as he looked down at me with a worried look.
I don't move my eyes from the floor, just staring at the perfectly polished marble ground.
" Shit Elara, your hands are all cut up."
Wayne sighs, taking my hands in his. I look down at our hands together, almost finding it funny.
My filthy hands in the son of the wealthiest family in town.
"N...no, stop." I whisper out barely, and watch as Wayne looks at me confused before letting go of my hands.
"I didn't mean to just stand there, my friends came over to me before Leslie did anything to you, I had no idea" Wayne says as he moves closer to me, carefully watching me as I shake my head.
Leslie
What made her hate me so much? That strawberry blonde haired girl seemed to have every ounce of hatred in her body towards me.
I figured she might be with Calvin since I'd seen her with him a lot, but he doesn't seem to like her much. He also doesn't seem to like anyone much so it was hard to tell.
"It’s not about that. I...I didn't need anyone to save me." I mumble, and he sighs out before grabbing my hand again and starting to wipe the blood off with a towel.
"She won't be coming here ever again."
Wayne grumbles as he cleans my hands free of blood.
The large cuts were showing through now as more blood started to leak out slowly.
I watch him as he stays focused on my hands, his once calm eyes looked like there was a raging storm inside, his jaw was tense, and his brows were furrowed.
Yet, his hands were still gentle as he wiped off the blood.
" Wayne honey what happened out there? I drove here as quick as I could when security told me something was going on."
The sound of a soft female voice utters and we both turn our heads to the gorgeous woman in front of us who had been looking between us curiously.
When Wayne notices the woman he quickly backs away from me and I only then realize she had been Mrs. Conner.
"Oh gosh this poor girl is all bloody." Mrs. Conner says before walking up to me and inspecting my hands.
" Sweetheart what happened to you?" She frowns as she looks up at my eyes. A sense of comfort floods through me with her presence as I watch her confused.
I never expected someone of her status to care, but she did.
I move my eyes towards Wayne who stood there, guilt flooding his eyes. He couldn't even look me in the eyes as he stood there with his jaw tensed.
My gaze moves back to Mrs. Conner. " I..it was just a bad accident with glass." I mumble, following behind her as she pulls me towards a chair in the hallway.
I sit down on the expensive chair, looking down at my hands as Mrs. Conner sits next to me.
"Wayne go get a first aid kit." She speaks softly and I hear feet shuffling before Mrs. Conner puts her hand on my shoulder.
"I don't believe we've met properly, it seems like you and Wayne are quite close though." She smiles, and I feel my cheeks tint red at the comment as I slowly nod my head, playing with my fingers on my lap before realizing they'd still been bloody.
"M.my name is Elara ma'am, but me and Wayne are just schoolmates nothing else I...I promise." I nervously let out. I was afraid she'd be mad someone like me was hanging around Wayne , I wouldn't blame her.
Who would want a pathetic, poor girl around someone of his status.
" Why would you need to promise that?" She frowns and I look up at her confused.
Doesn't she already know the answer to that, just like the other students at school knew?
" W...well I'm just a maid, I'm nothing compared to y-" I don't finish my sentence as Mrs. Conner interrupts me.
" You're human just like me and everyone else in this world, being a maid doesn't make you any less one, especially in this house." She says, her voice straight to the point. I watch her with my eyes wide, shocked at the words that left her mouth.
"If you ever need someone to talk to, about anything, you can always come to me. If I see anyone talk down on you because of money and status my husband will deal with them." She smiles and I tilt my head to the side in confusion.
How would her husband deal with them?
I wouldn't be surprised if he had guns like Calvin did. Mr. Conner was scary looking, any person in their right mind wouldn't take a step near him.
Somehow though he looked like a completely different person around Mrs. Conner.
I'm about to reply until Wayne returns with a first aid kit and hands it to his mother.
His eyes find mine but I quickly avert my own from his as I look down at my shoes.
"I couldn't find the one on the first floor so I had to go upstairs, I think Calvin took it for his battle wounds." Wayne scoffs as he leans against the wall.
" Don't talk about your brother like that, we can't help him if you keep holding things against each other." Mrs. Conner sighs as she wraps bandages around my hands.
I bite my lip, feeling like I'm not allowed to be hearing any of this but still, I was interested in the matter.
I wanted to know what happened between them, why Calvin was the way he is.
Wayne sighs at his mother, his hands in his pockets and I feel his eyes on me.
Was he just going to watch?
"Wayne stop staring at the poor girl and go do some homework, maybe read a book for once." Mrs.Conner says jokingly as she wraps my hands when she notices me nervously shuffling my feet.
"I read books." Wayne grumbles as he pushes off the wall and Mrs. Conner snorts as she looks up at him, her eyebrow raised.
" Sure you do, go read this book you've apparently read now while I help Elara."
She laughs and Wayne breaks into a small smile, gazing over at me once more before walking off.
" That boy is obsessed with you isn't he?" Mrs.Conner whispers and I feel my face flush red at her comment.
" W...what?" I say, watching her smile widen as she shakes her head.
"Nothing." Is all she says as she shrugs, closing the first aid kit. I look down at my now wrapped up hands, feeling cleaner now that the blood was all gone.
"Thank you miss, I really do appreciate it."
I say, smiling up at Mrs. Conner.
She smiles back at me before furrowing her brows as if in thought. " Do your parents work here as well or did you get permission to live in the estate?" She asks curiously. My mouth is only slightly open as I try to think of what to say, how to say
it.
"I...I'm alone." Is all that comes out when I scramble for something to say as quick as I could.
I see something familiar flash in her eyes at my words, only a sad smile painting her face.
" Well, I'm glad you're here with us, I hope we treat you well." She says, and I smile up at her taller frame, going to say thank you until her phone rings. The caller name shows up as 'angry man' and I only wonder who that could be.
" I have to take this before he throws a tantrum, remember you can always talk to me!" Mrs.Conner says quickly as she walks away, answering the phone.
I sigh as I look down at my hands before grabbing the drink trays and heading over to the kitchen to put all the broken glass away.
I still had a lot of cleaning left to do before I could call it a night. Although I ended at midnight
tonight, I unfortunately still had to somehow get the project Mr. Silas assigned done with Calvin.
The one thing I'd been dreading for this weekend.
I hadn't seen Calvin since the club, which was a good thing, but now I'd have to ask him if we could start the project. I didn't want to fail the class because of him, even though I never wanted to be partners with that devil in the first place.
My steps pause in the door frame leading to the kitchen when I saw Calvin behind the counter. He looked like he was about to go somewhere, with his motorcycle helmet on top of the counter, dressed in a black hoodie, his dark hair messy, and no trace of emotions laced on his cold face.
And that's when I noticed it, when my eyes moved down and I watched as Calvin practically commits a crime. He was making a sandwich with my jelly.
Where had he even found it?
