So cute

So cute
Maverick’s eyes fluttered open. Compared to back at his house where the curtains were always open, the room he was in was tightly sealed, allowing only a dim, filtered light to settle across the space.

It was cool. Not cold… just enough to make his skin aware of it.

A faint blend of fragrances lingered in the air…something woody, something sweet, and something sharper beneath it. It wasn't overpowering, but intentional. Like every scent had been chosen carefully.

He blinked slowly, his vision adjusting.

The room was quiet, and the only sound was the big clock in the center of the room.

A low table stood a few steps away, set neatly as if it had been prepared in advance. Two wine glasses rested on it, one half-filled, the other untouched. A dark bottle sat between them, its surface catching the faint light.

The soft flicker of a scented candle cast slow-moving shadows along the walls, making the room feel…romantic.

Maverick shifted slightly on the bed. The sheets were comfortable, like the ones he had back at his parents’ house. And the bed was so soft that he wished he could sink deeper into it.

His gaze moved around, searching for signs of the living. His breath hitched when he noticed the four eyes fixed intensely on him. Watching him like he was the only person that mattered.

“You're finally awake. I thought you were dead.” A hoarse familiar voice deadpanned. His tone hid his true intentions.
“Y-you guys!” Maverick tried to reply, but instead, a sharp headache hit him, and he groaned.

Ashley sat by the table, one leg crossed over the other, fingers lazily tracing the rim of the glass in his hand. His posture was relaxed, almost elegant, but his eyes immediately noticed that Maverick was in pain and he jumped up.

Lanky stood a little further back, leaning against the wall with his arms folded. His presence was quieter, but no less noticeable.

Lanky didn't look as angry as before. Ashley had spoken to him when Maverick was still asleep, and Lanky had promised to behave.

Ashley stood by Maverick's side, carefully assisting him to sit up.

“You look tired, Birdie. You should still be asleep. Why are you forcing yourself?” Ashley's gentle voice echoed in the room. He sat down beside Maverick, adjusting the wet towel on his forehead.

Maverick looked confused, and he wondered if he was dreaming.

“Where am I? Am I in paradise?” Maverick stuttered, surprised at how sweet and gentle the Mafia bosses were.

Lanky burst into laughter. “Paradise? You are far from there. I also doubt you will be allowed to enter, since you like cock,” he said playfully.

Ashley turned to face Lanky, giving him a stern look which immediately shut him up.

“Don't listen to him. You're safe,” Ashley whispered into Maverick's ear.

Maverick didn’t respond immediately. His throat felt dry, and he couldn't really remember what happened.

His eyes moved between the two of them, trying to piece things together.

“…so where am I? Is this real?” he repeated his question, his voice filled with doubt.

“You are in our room,” Ashley replied, as he caressed Maverick's head. “I think this is real. Even if it's not. At least, we are here with you.” He smiled brightly.

Maverick nodded, a warm smile on his face.

“I love it here,” he said, enjoying the moment.

Lanky looked at Ashley and Maverick, a jealous expression on his face. But he couldn't figure out what he was jealous about.

“You should drink something,” Ashley said, gesturing toward the untouched bowl of soup on a nearby table. “It’ll help.”

Maverick’s eyes flickered to the soup. Then back to Ashley.

“…Help with what?”

Ashley wasn't sure if he should reply so he turned to Lanky, asking for his opinion. Lanky shrugged his shoulders, unbothered.

“The doctor said that your memory will be foggy for a while. But as soon as you eat something hot, you'll remember what happened,” Ashley said, and stood up to carry the bowl.

His hands accidentally hit a bottle of wine, the red content pouring on the floor.

Maverick's eyes widened. “Blood…” he stammered, pointing at the floor. He held onto the duvet, his hands shivering in fear.

Lanky looked worried, and he pushed himself off the walls, quickly running to Maverick's side.

Ashley looked remorseful, and he immediately bent down to clean and pick up the broken glass. Unfortunately, one of the glass edges cut his hands, giving him a deep cut.

Maverick buried his head in Lanky's arms, and Lanky shielded him from the content on the floor.

“It's alright. I'm here, no one will hurt you,” Lanky whispered, and he gently patted Maverick's head.

No one seemed to notice the cut on Ashley's hands, and Ashley quickly licked the blood. But it kept pouring out.

“I will go get the maid,” Ashley said, and left the room.

He hurried to the washroom, and a few minutes later, Lanky entered, his brows furrowed.

Ashley tried to hide his hands behind him, but Lanky had seen it.

“What are you doing here? You should be with Birdie,” Ashley said, his eyes nervously wandering around.

Lanky smiled broadly. “Birdie is fine. The maid has cleaned the room, and a doctor is attending to him,” he paused, moving closer to Ashley. “What about you? Have you attended to your wound?”

Ashley feigned ignorance. “What are you talking about? I'm fine,” he lied.

Lanky scoffed. “Don't bother. I've seen it. Also, how many times have I told you to stop picking up sharp objects with your bare hands? It's good that you're worried about Birdie, but you can't ignore your own health,” he said, his voice low and gentle.

He picked up the first aid kit and brought out a bandage, antiseptic, and gauze with practiced ease.

“Sit,” Lanky said quietly.

Ashley hesitated for a second, then complied, resting against the edge of the sink. The earlier composure on his face had faded, replaced by something softer… almost vulnerable.

Lanky took his hand without asking.

The cut was deeper than it looked. Blood still welled slowly from the edge, staining Ashley’s fingers.

“You’re too reckless, Ashley,” Lanky muttered. He sounded calm, but his face betrayed his facade.

Ashley let out a faint laugh. “You’re one to talk, Mr. Big Wolf.”

“Not like this,” Lanky replied, cleaning the wound carefully.

The antiseptic stung, and Ashley’s fingers twitched slightly, but he didn’t pull away. Instead, he watched Lanky in silence.

He loved this side of Lanky. Gentle, obedient, and caring.

“…You didn’t have to come here,” Ashley said after a pause.

Lanky didn’t look up. “And leave you bleeding to death alone?” He scoffed lightly. “You really think I’d do that?”

Ashley didn’t respond. For a brief moment, the only sound in the room was their breathing and the faint rustle of gauze.

Lanky wrapped the bandage around Ashley’s hand with precision, tightening it just enough.

“There,” he said. “Try not to reopen it.”

Ashley stared at the bandage, then at Lanky.

“…You’re unusually gentle today. I love it.”

Lanky smirked faintly. “Don’t get used to it. Who knows I might lose my mind tomorrow.”

A small silence followed, but it wasn’t uncomfortable.

“About Birdie…” Ashley murmured, his expression shifting.

Lanky straightened slightly. “Yeah... what about him?”

“He looked scared. He grew up in a different environment. He's like a baby in our world,” Ashley added quietly.

“I know,” Lanky replied. “That’s why we shouldn’t leave him alone for long.”

Ashley nodded, pushing himself off the sink.

“…We also need to be careful,” he said. “He’s not stable yet.”

Lanky’s gaze darkened, and his lips parted, but he didn’t argue.

“I’ll handle him,” Lanky said after a moment. “You’ve done enough already.”

Ashley raised a brow. “Handle him? How?”

Lanky’s lips curved into a small smile.

“I’ll feed him, okay? Trust me,” he said with a mischievous smirk.

Ashley studied his face for a second, as if trying to read between the lines.

“…Fine,” he said eventually. “But don’t scare him.”

“No promises,” Lanky replied dryly.

Ashley exhaled softly, then turned toward the door.

“Let’s go back. He's expecting us.”

Lanky followed behind him without another word. And together, they returned to Maverick. Who unknown to them had remembered what happened.
