Chapter 97 Branding a pet
Branding a pet
Milo pov
Take me?
The words slammed into me like a trailer full of catties. My knees almost buckled under me, the jug of wine I was about to pour for Damon slipped out of my hand, shattering on the hard ground.
The sound of chairs scraping back echoed violently, Damon shot to his feet.
“How dare you?” His voice thundered, shaking all the air molecules in the room. “He is mine.”
My breath hitched at damons claim.
A mocking laughter that sounded like something from the pit of hell slithered across the hall. “Yours? I am yet to see the proof that he is yours. You haven’t branded him, and as such, he is nothing but an Unclaimed pet, damon, have you forgotten the rules.”
My mind blanked. Unclaimed pet? Branded him? What the hell were they talking about?
“Brother don't act rashly” Selene stood, her eyes darting between me and Damon. “We all know that branding a pet is a tradition every master must undergo to have full right over his property. But from all indications, you have not branded your pet, which means one thing, you don't even want him anyways… What is the need for keeping unwanted trash?”
My whole body trembled like I was about to have a seizure. Is that what I really was to him? Trash?
had thought that Damon wasn’t like those ruthless masters, wouldn't do it, that little flicker of hope that stirs in me every time he holds me after sex…like I mean the world to him. That small thread of hope shattered into nothingness.
I couldn’t even look at Damon, I didn't want to. My heart felt like it was shattering into pieces. So it was finally happening. My worst fear was finally coming to pass.
The worst fear of every pet was to be branded by his or her master. Hot tears streamed down my eyes. But nobody cared to see, nobody paid me any attention.
But Alpha Kael wasn't done either. He yanked his pet up by her hair, his hands ripped through her clothes, exposing her bare hips for all to see. I shrunk back instinctively, my hands flying to my mouth. Burned into her skin, was a scar, running from her bellybutton horizontally disappearing at the small of her back, was a cruel and jagged words “ALPHA KAEL PET”. The brand glowed faintly against her old scars.
The room gasped, and many chuckled in twisted amusement.
Kael smirked. “That is what real ownership looks like. A mark that never fades.” His gaze darted to Damon, mocking, daring. “If you want to keep your little prize, then show me your mark of ownership or else…” His grin spread wider, like he had already won. “…I wouldn’t mind taking him by force.”
The whole hall quieted after alpha kaels challenge. Damon looked like he would explode anytime soon. My eyes met Selene, who was smirking in excitement, clearly enjoying the show. Alpha kael kept on looking at me with a victorious look.
I felt a deep sense of fear and helplessness wash over me. I instinctively took a step back.
My lungs refused to work. I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. The stories I have heard came rushing back inside my head. The brand was taboo in many packs, especially the righteous packs, because of what it signifies for the pet. It's a scar that stays for life, even our werewolf metabolism cannot heal it ,because it is done with pure wolfbane soaked in hot blazing fire, and once it's done, the pet belongs solely to the master. And the worst part, if your master ever rejected you after branding… the only fate left was death.
Kael chuckled darky, lifting his glass as if he hadn't just thrown my life into a wild spiral. “A pet without a brand is like an Alpha without claws. Don’t you agree, Damon?”
The room erupted in low laughter. My body shuddered in dread, I know what Alpha kael was doing. He was inciting Damon, pushing him to the point of no return…
“No…” I finally found my voice, My body shook violently, “Please… don’t…”
General Josh stood up slowly, I could see pity and something else flashing in his eyes. “Alpha, we can not bear to take such a risk. He is still needed for the blood transfusion. If the branding takes place, we might risk…”
“Shut up Josh” Damon barked at the general, shattering whatever flicker of hope I had.
The door to the great hall opened, and soldiers wheeled a heavy furnace inside. Immediately, the temperature in the room increased by several degrees,
My heart sank inside my stomach. I cried even harder. But Damon wasn’t listening. He didn’t even spare me a glance. His glare was trained on alpha kael.
“You don't need to worry, alpha kael. Fortunately, I planned to brand my pet today
