Chapter 47 Chapter 47
Chapter 47 Chapter 47
"Three firm knocks landed against the office door, sharp enough to cut through the quiet atmosphere inside the room. They weren't rushed or even so aggressive, but they carried something deliberate with them and immediately shifted the air inside of the room. As Arthur and Marcus we're talking to each other. The guard stationed outside stepped in a second later, his posture already tensed before he could even speak.
"Sir..." He said and Arthur slowly lifted his gaze from the documents spread on the desk. And only moment ago the office has been filled with urgent quiet rhythm of talking business and talking about Lydia.
However, the guard hesitated into the room like a threat.
"August is here to see you, and he's waiting outside." He said and the words settled into the room like a threat again.
Marcus, on the other hand, straightened immediately. His expression tightening while Arthur's exposure remain completely in control and very still, waiting to hear first before reacting. Only his eyes changed.
The quiet concern that had lingered there earlier when Lydia's name had been spoken, had disappeared instantly. Replaced by something hard and extremely cold.
"Alone?" Marcus asked carefully.
The guard shook his head and said
"No Sir.. He's not alone." He said with confidence.
And that is when The Alpha King leaned back slightly into his chair. His one hand resting against the armrest while the other tapping against the desk. Before becoming still again.
"How many?" He asked.
"Enough." That was the only answer the man gave and he was not afraid of August. But he was simply afraid of two of these very proud for men coming together. He was just afraid of Arthur even more.
However, the answer alone was enough to darken the atmosphere even further. Outside of the office was the movement had already begun.
Arthur could hear it faintly through the silence of the room. Footsteps shifting into the hallway, low voices passing through instructions, earpieces, security repositioning throughout the floor, men and woman guaards preparing for violence without openly acknowledging it.
Even the random stuff of the office was a little alert.
The entire building seemed to have gotten tight around August's arrival.
Marcus glanced was now fixed on the guard before looking back at Arthur. His body completely straight and he was ready for whatever was coming.
"This could be a distraction Sir." Was what Marcus said. Knowing exactly how this world works. His expression very tight and Marcus was ready for whatever was to coming. But he was also ready for instructions from his boss.
"Hmm. It could be a destruction, yes." Arthur replied, almost immediately. But extremely calm as always. Although, his expression said that he already understood something deeper than that.
"August never appears anywhere without a purpose. Men like him did not waste a single movement. A single breath. And not even a single blood drop if necessary. He was here for a reason." He said. And Arthur knew that his men were prepared for that.
Arthur rose slowly from his desk. There was nothing rushed about it, nothing emotional either that almost made it worse. He adjusted the sleeves of his black shirt, with calm precision before fastening the cups properly. Every movement control and deliberate.
The softness from earlier, and the man who has sat beside Lydia, through the stormy night where she held him, wanted him, and he stayed with her had completely vanished.
This was Arthur Romero. The King of Mafia's.
"Do you want us to remove him and his men. Before this weekend becomes a problem Sir ?" Marcus asked, and he shock his head.
"No." He said. And he was cold, extremely controlled and a dangerous man.
Marcus, on the other hand, watched him very carefully. Arthur's eyes shifted towards the office door completely unreadable for a moment. The room fell silent again except for the feet sound of movement outside, then Arthur spoke quietly.
"I want to talk to him." Marcus frowned slowly but said nothing. And Arthur, on the other hand, set his watch back before finally looking at him fully.
"If August came here all the way, then he wants to be seen. Men like him become dangerous to others when you don't let them perform." He said, and as the words came near the door remained waiting. But the tension visible in the office staff.
However, not the guards of Arthur Romero.
They were very much ready for anything to come.
The King then walked slowly around the desk and stop briefly near the window. Overlooking the city below, cars moving endlessly through the street beneath the tower. And then he turned back to the room with expression calm again. Too calm.
"I want to talk to him. Let him in." The guards nodded immediately, before stepping back out of the the office.
Somewhere beyond the door, August smiled, like a man walking willingly towards the fire he fully intended to make worse.
Lydia and Sophia were still sitting in the restaurant. A very quiet atmosphere around. She was very grateful for it, to be out and have someone who did not tense her out. Sofia, on the other hand, was explaining something about her life. And Lydia was listening.
However, as all of this was going on around them, with multiple guards surrounding them in this empty restaurant. The girls were not completely aware of the fact.
Although, from very far away, there were multiple eyes on them still. It was August's men here as well and they were watching Lydia. And of course none of them could reach Lydia, it was impossible. And they didn't even get close to her, the could not be possible.
The guards had surrounded every parameter, making it difficult for any of them to reach to her. Or even get close to a building that was next to her. It was that well-rounded by Arthur's men.
However, Arthur's men were not fools either.
One of the men watched and understood what was going on. And that is when he informed through through his ear piece, to one of the head of the guards.
"We see some eyes, not far from here." He said. That is when the guards standing very close to where Lydia was sitting, backed away from her, slightly. Talking through the headphones again.
"How many of them?" He asked, his voice low and alert.
"Seven or eight. We have eyes on all of them as well, and ready to take a shot." He said.
"No..." There are families here." The head guard said. And that was enough. The head guard looked at other set of men not standing far away. And he moved his head slightly and these two men knew what to do, and moved away from there.
Making their way towards, where the August's men were standing watching Lydia, disturbing families.
These two rival families watching each other. Fire burning through them all.
One was protecting someone that was important to them, and one wanting to know how quickly they could reach her.
But Arthur's men weren't going to let that happen to Lydia. She was going to be safe with them, and they were going to do anything to keep Lydia Romero safe.
