Chapter 46 Chapter 46

Chapter 46 Chapter 46

Arthur's office carried it's usual silence that afternoon, but today it felt different. It was much more heavier and extremely controlling surrounding, sunlight spreed through the floor to ceiling window behind him, searching across the dark wood floor, polished surface.
But the warmth outside never truly ended or entered the room. The city continued moving beneath him in its endless rhythm, cars filling the street, people rushing through their lives, business running as they should while inside the office everything fell silent and extremely still.
Arthur sat behind his desk with a file open in front of him. However he did not actually read a single page in the last several minutes. One hand resting on the armchair, while the other hand was near the untouched glass of whiskey that was sitting right behind him. He had not taken a single sip of it either.
Like he was not concentrate on anything he was doing . He did not take a sip. Across from him Marcus stood with a tablet in hand and a very calm and professional way as always, going through schedules and updates. Telling Arthur about everything that was necessary in a very simple tone and Arthur was usually listening to all of it in complete attendance, his attention only going to him.
The Milan meeting has been pushed to tomorrow morning", Marcus said.
" victor's people back down at the port, after the warning and the shipment is already been secured." He said giving up all the information that was required and as a result Arthur gave him a very small nod of the head, without even looking at him once.
Marcus on the other hand, continued.
"The board is waiting for the final confirmation regarding Thursday's negotiation, if you delay again start pressing harder." Arthur slightly nodded his head again and that was all that was his comp.
Marcus watched him quietly for a moment after that. He had learned how to read silence between words, been doing this for years and today Arthur has been silent since the moment he got into this building.
He was not angry, not even distracted but he was definitely worried. It was subtle enough that most people would never notice it Arthur Romero had emotions better than anyone ever could. Marcus had ever known but the signs were here. In the way his jaw was moving and the tension was growing in a way his eyes occasionally drifted towards the phone resting near his hand, in the fact that he had not interrupted Marcus once.
Finally Arthur close to file in front of him.
"How is she?" The question came quietly without explanation. It did not need one. Marcus answered immediately.
"She's with Sophia. Miss Sophia came to the house first and then decided to go meet Mrs. Romero. It was informed that they both met."
"At the cemetery?" Arthur asked completely looking at him.
"She was.." Marcus nodded his head.
"They stayed there for a little longer, than miss Sophia picked her up afterwards they both are spending time together. However all the guards are still with them, following them in every move." He informed in every single situation and silence settled between them. again silence but louder.
Arthur leaned back slightly in his chair, his eyes shifting briefly towards the window beside him, Marcus looked again something in his shoulder eased almost invisible.
"Did she eat anything?" He asked after the moment and Marcus nearly smiled at that question.
"Miss Sophia made sure of that. I was told that the entire restaurant was shut down for both of them and miss Sophia ordered everything she could on the menu, however miss Lydia only ate everything she could eat." Arthur was now slowly having such a relief. Happy that he had met Sophia once in life.
He came somewhere close to the peace.
"All I want to say is, she is very safe Sir." Marcus said and he added very carefully and Arthur only nodded once at that his expression did not completely.
Safe completely, "safe" the world should have reassured him more than it did. Instead his eyes went a little darker and he stared at nothing for a second longer. However it was almost like Marcus was reading him completely.
"You should sleep at some point Sir. You have not rested in a very long time." He said and Arthur also completely ignored that comment entirely.
"She looked exhausted this morning. She barely slept as well." Marcus stood there and he stayed quiet after. And the truth of the matter of all of this is. Arthur Romero was not some one that ever allowed concern to remain visible long enough for anyone else to witness. T=It was the only way that Arthur ever lived. He had never changed that for anyone, and so this was very new even to Marcus.
The Lydia was the only one that went ahead and had taken that out of him. He was a complete a different person at this time of his life and now he was this way, just for her. His wife.
"She still is angry with you." Marcus said, carefully and Arthur gave a harmless, humorless smile.
"I know." He whispered.
"But she still called for you Sir." Marcus said. And that statement stared something inside of Arthur.
"She was scared of being alone..." He muttered again.
"And then she called for you." Marcus looked at him a little longer, reminding him of the love they both had still. The room fell silent yet again and Marcus returned to discussing business like he had not brought that up at all. It was a slight tactic he had learned mostly from his new boss "Lydia"
A smile on his face when he went back to naming the shipments, meeting, names, problems that normally would have held Arthur's complete attention.
But not today.
Today was slightly different reminder of what happened that night in the bedroom, in the storm. Where Arthur was besides a woman who had handed him back the wedding ring, and still had reached out for him. And one thing Arthur Romero knew for sure, that he was not going to let his wife go.
