Chapter 85 Epilogue
Chapter 85 Epilogue
"Gee!" Mini cooed as she changed her dress.
It was snowing outside. I was relieved that it was warm inside the house. I couldn't ask the weather god or goddess to clear the snow and turn the winter into pleasant spring. I had to endure this. The delivery was next month. I was a little more scared because of the cold. I wanted things to go smoothly.
"Stop calling her that. It should be Angel or Gae!" I smiled down at my cute niece who was flashing a toothless smile at me. Her tiny hands were fisted and she was moving them in the air.
"Yes, She sleeps most of the time. She gives me enough time to sleep. Right, baby." Mini brushed her fingertips on her stomach, making her squeal happily. "I remember the day I felt you moving in my belly." Our smiles broadened.
"Mini! She's a child. Stop talking to her like that." I chided her with big eyes. She didn't need to know anything until she turned eighteen.
Mini chuckled. "She can't hear us."
I snorted. "I don't know. Just don't say adult things in front of our kids." I told her.
" Alright, big baby." She picked up Gaelyn. "I will be back." She turned in her heels and walked toward the hall. "A few more weeks, then your brother will come to accompany you. He'll play with you." She disappeared in the hallway.
I smiled looking at her, finding her glancing at me with her big eyes and wiggling her hands in the air. Her head was resting against her mother's shoulder. She was so cute, looking like a toy of a beautiful chubby doll.
My hand rested on my round stomach. I caressed my finger. Instantly, I felt my baby. My smile broadened the moment they rested on the door.
A smile curled on his lips as he watched me leaning against the doorframe.
"When did you come?" I asked.
He strode forward and leaned over me to press a kiss on my head. "When you were thinking about our baby."
"Well!" I flattened my lips to suppress my smile. "I haven't forgotten what you did, dearest husband."
His smile deepened as he held out his hand. "You're my wife. Mine." My heart began to sing merrily. "I can do anything to keep our family safe."
"Well, Darius." I patted my stomach softly, "And I, we're not going to talk to you." Tears welled in my eyes. I refused to cry. "You'll never know how hard it was for me to be without you out there. You were right, Duante. I didn't die without you. But I couldn't live without you." Tears slid down my eyes. "Smiling wasn't permanent. Life was aimless. I would have died if I weren't carrying our baby. I don't want anyone to ever go through what I have faced without you. "
He brushed his fingers on my cheeks. "I was always near you, watching you."
"You weren't with me, Duante." A sob left my throat, making his jaw clenched hard. I could never stop complaining. "I was certain not to talk to you. I couldn't bring myself to do it. I couldn't be cruel like you." I hid my face behind my hands. Suddenly, I wanted to be alone. I didn't want him to see me broken.
His arms curled around me. "If I hadn't done this, it wouldn't have been the only plane that blasted."
I threw a fist on his chest. "That's not funny."
"Eve!" His voice was soft but a warning laced along when he found me in tears.
"You didn't even tell Tom." I hadn't seen Tom so broken before.
He cupped my face and forced my gaze to look at him. "I didn't want to put his life in danger. He killed Sofia's husband. If he didn't get genuine reactions from him, he would have killed him."
I shook my head. He killed Uncle. It had been a week. He could do this. "He would have killed me if Uncle hadn't helped me. I eavesdropped on them. My baby and I wouldn't be here, Evie." Mini's voice cracked. "You shouldn't doubt Duante's decisions." Her cheeks were wet with tears.
I stared at her with big eyes. It froze me. I was thinking they didn't care about me. I never contemplated the second side. They kept her away to keep her safe. She whirled on her heels and strolled back to her room.
"Max was helping us. I told him to betray us in his eyes." Duante said.
I glanced in his eyes. "Next time," My voice was heavy with emotions. "If you plan to die, you're going to include me too. And." My hands rested on his chest. I could feel his heart beating softly under my palm. Nothing could make his heart beat fast. "You don't even love me." I slapped my hand on his chest softly, feeling annoyed with my thoughts. My voice was full of hurt.
"Shut up, Eve. I love you and I don't need to enchant it all the time." He took me in the ring of his arms, pulling me to his chest.
I lifted my chin and he stared down at me with a stern look.
"You need to stop doing this if you want more than one baby." My lips flattened for a second.
"Eve." I registered the shock in his eyes that made my lips curl up. "If you understand me, you know my hidden feelings. You know the love behind my glare, too. Don't you, Love?" His eyes alighted with worry.
A full smile pulled at my lips. He exhaled softly as his expression softened. He pressed his lips on my head. "We're not talking on this topic ever. Forget it, consider it one of your nightmares." He muttered.
It was impossible for me. We lost Uncle. I could do anything for him. I looked in his eyes and nodded my head.
