Chapter 78 49
Chapter 78 49
A small smile crept onto my face permanently during my stay at the park. Though, I wasn't doing much but staring at all happy faces, squealing kids happily.
Ben cleared his throat. I peered up at him and rolled my eyes. ''I'm not alone, you know." I darted my eyes out over the familiar faces, mingled in the crowd, pretending to be the usual people, visiting the park.
"Yes, ma'am. But it's too late. You must be tired and hungry." Assassin said, his eyes were in the distance.
I giggled. He acted like a caring nanny. The dim amber was gone in the sky. The dark was replacing it. I got on my feet still smiling as I paced toward the car.
Two kids swooped ahead of me, almost startling me. Fear raced through me as I stumbled. A shriek left my throat. I extended my hands as I was going to hit the ground.
Arms curled around me. My hands shot up and touched his warm skin. My eyes widened in recognition. It immediately slipped away and a gloved hand sailed around my arm, yanking me to the car. My heart was beating in my ears. My feet moved against my will. It stilled me entirely, frozen as I stared at him with big eyes.
The door opened and he shoved me in. His posture spoke only fury. But that wasn't my problem. He made my thoughts hazy. Sliding in next to me, he slammed the door shut. It sent a jolt through me at the sudden loudness.
His hands balled on his thighs. It wasn't his anger that was troubling me. I raised my trembling hand. "Duante?" I whispered in a shuddery breath. My gaze touched his mask and I pulled it down revealing his face under the dark hood.
I gasped in shock, relief and many questions attacked at the same time. His blazing gaze landed on me. His arm curled around my neck and cold metal pressed against my throat.
"Boss, ma'am is pregnant. You can't..." Assassin trailed as Duante's eyes flashed with anger at him.
Tears jabbed at my eyes. They knew. My questioning eyes raked on them. I glared at them with tearful eyes.
"Boss lost his memory, ma'am." I recognized Drake's voice under the hood and mask. It confused me beyond understanding. He was talking rubbish.
"You," Duante hissed in my ear. My gaze turned to him.
They climbed down the car, closing the doors behind them. I was left with him. Tension filled the air. "You liar! I'm not gonna talk to you ever." I spat angrily.
"Does your brain take time to install orders, instructions?" He snarled. His knife touched my throat again.
I stared at him, wondering. "Do you have some kind of disorder?" I snapped.
His dark eyebrows were pulled together in anger. "That was just a show." He pressed it. It would cut me if I moved. I held my breath. "I would have handed you to fucking stalker myself if you haven't lied to me. Now." He growled. I froze, holding my breath as I listened gawking at him. He looked down at my stomach, the darkness in his eyes that shouted at me to pull away from him frightened me. What was wrong with him? His eyes turned to me with more anger and hatred. "You're pregnant with my child. It's stopping me from whatever I have plans for you in my mind."
"You're not making any point." My voice was weak with emotions swirling inside me. Tears ran down my cheeks.
He snorted loudly. "Stop this drama, woman. Back there I pretended to restore my memory. I don't want any part related to you." His lips flattened.
Dread inched into my gut. Everything was confusing. My own questions were nagging me. I couldn't believe he wouldn't have restored his memories. We were together. "What are you talking about?" He didn't want me in his life.
"I should fucking control myself around you." His voice softened for a second. It was quickly replaced with annoyance and irritation. "But don't you dare to think I'll allow you to cross the line that I have drawn." He drew his face closer. His eyes were cold with anger. "You're no one to me. Everything is just in papers. You will always be nothing more than my child's mother. I don't know what's stopping me. If you dare to step out of the line again. I'll cut your throat." He snarl-whispered.
A bead of fear rolled down my spine. "Why don't you hand me to him?" It terrified me. My heart juddered madly as I stared at him, recalling what I had just said.
He pressed the metal tighter as he glowered at me. " I couldn't do that." His confession couldn't slow my running heart.
"You will kill our son." I wasn't bothered if he slit my throat. I love him. We shouldn't expect anything, particularly for someone to love us back.
One side of his mouth kicked up. It wasn't a good sign. "No, babe. It's your seventh month, starting next week. Doctor will save him. I can't say the same for you if I cut your throat." His smile broadened.
My mind began to whirl with panic. He could do this. It was clear from his dark eyes.
I flattened my lips as I tried to read him. His poker face stared at me back, his eyes grasping wrath. "What's making you wait, Duante Rego?" I drew my face closer. Pain shot through me as I forgot that he was still grasping the knife against my neck. Something wet and hot trailed down my skin. I fought against the panic and dread slithering through my body.
"You stupid woman." He yelled in anger, pressing his thumb against my pounding skin. He glared at me looking irritated." Wolf!" He snarled, still glaring.
"You've recently given me a suggestion. Why don't you use it and get rid of me. I can bet, Duante Rego can get anyone to warm his bed and to take care of our son." I spoke in hatred.
He growled in a low voice. I opened my mouth. Assassin shook his head as he got behind the wheel. It stopped me. I was furious at them. Everyone played very well.
"You're deluded." I murmured under my breath, pulling away from his touch.
He propelled the knife at Drake who caught it. His grip tightened on my shoulder, and he pressed his thumb on my wound. I could see worry in his amber eyes, but not for me. It broke something inside me. Tears pooled in my eyes.
"Stop this fucking shit. If something..."
"Act on your suggestion, Duante Rego." I snapped.
Duante is always my priority. He would always be. I haven't seen our baby, haven't held him yet, but I still love him.
Assassin pulled the car over. But I couldn't see any hospital around, but other black cars. The door opened and Aaron stepped in. He was holding a medical kit. I opened my mouth to shout at him, but his grip on my shoulder was tightened.
I got two stitches which wasn't expected. The blade was sharp. It could have killed me if he wanted to. I didn't say a word. Indeed, I had nothing to say. My questions were puzzling me more. They soon died in my head.
Assassin pulled over the car. I reached for the door and climbed down.
I stared at the floor. I hadn't touched my food. His ten knew his plan. They all were pretending. Was it some kind of joke? Or did he never restore his memory? Why would he lie? Did he do all this to be near our baby?
My eyes turned to them. They weren't wearing any masks but they were wearing their hoods. They were sitting around the round table in a circle, some were standing folding their arms showing their biceps, some were sipping their coffee. He had a strong group of people who would do anything for him.
His jaw twitched. "Eat," He ordained and it went silent in the hall.
"Force it down my throat." I snapped without thinking. I closed my eyes after realizing that I just challenged him. He was in front of me all the time. I could feel him but I couldn't recognize him until my hand laid on his flesh. My eyes jerked open as I heard the chair screeching.
I saw anger flashing in his eyes as he got on his feet and strode toward me. He took my chin between his forefingers and thumb. My eyes squeezed as I felt the pain.
His expression softened but he masked them immediately. His forefingers were touching my chin now.
"I think something liquid will be better for ma'am." Ben said, taking a small step further. I could see fear in his body language too.
Duante glowered at him. Before Duante could hit him. "Yes, thank you. My throat is hurting." I said. They might be trained to kill and to be mafia men but they have heart when it's about me. They cared for me like a sister or duty whatever they had vowed to him. I yanked his hand away in frustration. "Don't touch me."
His poker face stared down at me. I felt he wanted to say something, but I knew him, he always preferred to talk less.
He leaned in, staring in my eyes. Our breathing mingled. "So, you're defending them." His voice was gravel.
My eyes narrowed on him, I didn't like his tone. I heard my heart pounding. He turned to his chair without a word. It wasn't a good sign.
"They took care of me like a father does to his children. Don't you dare to do whatever you're thinking. Don't forget my brothers and you have trained me."
He faced me with a lopsided smile. He looked so handsome. It felt as if it had been years not seeing him, touching his muscular body. "You can never defeat me."
" I'd never disappoint my teachers." I said.
"They're family." He said and returned to his seat. His jaw was set tight.
I should be excited hugging him, never leaving his side But he was only giving me a tough time, cold looks. I didn't know what to do with it. "I hate you." I said. My voice wasn't solid.
His wholehearted laughter replied to me. Running his hand through his hair, he got back in the chair.
My heart was drumming in my chest. I had to find it out. His one gaze was enough for any girl to go on her knees and do his bidding.
