Family reunion
Chapter 179
Ruby's POV
MORNING OF THE TOURNAMENT
“So we’re just going to leave it all to chance?” Little Black groaned as he fell back onto the bed. I stood up and bent over the bed to pull out the small makeup box I had hidden on the headboard. I dropped it open and revealed a small blinking device nestled right under the makeup items.
“I believe Dominic will check the safe first since he arrived early. When he does, the biometrics will be saved, making it easy to enter. Sit up,” I said softly, pulling him upright.
“There’s a huge chance he won’t go there before the tournament, Mom,” Little Black said seriously, deep in thought.
I ignored his words and focused on the wristlet on his wrist as I made quick work with deactivating it. A soft clicking sound came from it, and I felt my heart relax for the first time in years. The air suddenly felt lighter and easier to breathe.
“It’s off! Oh heavens, it’s off!” Little Black finally noticed and hopped off the bed in excitement. “Oh heavens, I’m not going to die anymore!” he cried out, then jumped into my arms to give me a huge hug. I chuckled. “I can’t imagine going a day without getting on your nerves. I’m so happy!” he said, grinning.
“It’s fine. Remember, you still have to act like it’s on, that you’re walking to your death. I’ll leave to get the file while you’re still in the ring. By twelve sharp, there’ll be a break. I need you to survive until then, my Little Black. Meet me out back. You only have one opponent until then since they don’t want to keep the best for last. We’ll leave by speedboat at the end of the resort if everything goes as planned,” I explained the whole plan again calmly to make sure we don't miss anything. Little Black nodded in agreement.
There was a sharp knock at the door. “We are here to escort Little Black to the ring,” came the muffled voice of Dominic’s guards. I began wailing to put on a show while giving Little Black a final nod before he walked out, his back held up high and proud.
I waited patiently, with a small clock in hand, for eleven o’clock to arrive so I could put my plan in motion. Time seemed to drag on slowly.
“Bingo!” I whispered to myself in the room. I hopped off the bed and stalked to the door. Opening it quietly, I saw the hallway was empty. My heart thumped loudly in my chest as I moved quickly down the hall toward the elevator.
The elevator opened at the casino level. The crowd wasn’t as bustling as it had been two days ago. There were guards stationed all around, but I took a deep swallow and headed straight for the black door before heading down the elevator again.
My feet clicked quietly through the silent wine vault as I kept glancing over my shoulder. It felt like I was being followed. I hurried to the safe and knelt before it, my fingers moving around the lock. My guess was right, Dominic had visited the safe when he arrived. Now, it would be easier to open. I immediately went to work.
Suddenly, a familiar voice reached me. “I had a feeling you’d come back here.” I heard Black say, followed by heavy footsteps as he approached.
“You should stay out of my business,” I snapped, ignoring him and focusing on opening the lock.
“You didn’t stay out of my head, so why should I?” he responded as he fell to his knees beside me. I suddenly became aware of his presence, but I tried as hard as I could to ignore him. Then, there was a beeping sound and the safe clicked open.
“Finally,” I whispered, reaching inside and pulling out the black file. I’d heard that with the black file, you could command a secret organization with just a phone call. Well, I was about to find out how true that was.
I hurried to my feet and glanced at my watch. Looking back, I saw Black still following me.
“Shouldn’t you thank me? Your whole plan to get the black file wouldn’t have gone smoothly without me. The cameras are off, the hallways are clear. What do you think?” Black said, hands on his hips.
“Well, that’s what you’re supposed to do, protect me. You promised, remember?” I hissed at him, keeping my eyes forward as I walked.
"Hey, hold on a minute, when did I ever promise anything to you?" Black called out as he ran after me, his footsteps pounding the ground. My heart was racing in my chest as I burst out the small exit door that led to the back, the cool air hitting me hard in the face. Now all I had to do was wait for Little Black.
"Step away from the lady!" I heard a gruff voice order as a small group of people rounded the corner, and my heart sank to my feet. Were we caught?
"Ruby, come over here!" the intruder called out to me, and my eyebrows shot up as I tried to place the voice. My eyes nearly popped out of my head as the man took off his mask and his partner's follwed suite revealing Peter, Ash, Brown, and Ash's sister.
“I am glad you all are safe, don't worry, he is with me.” I said to Peter and he lowerd his gun at my words.
"What is going on? Do you know them?" Black asked from beside me, and I turned to glare at him.
"What the hell happened to you?" I snapped at him, giving him a light punch on the arm. "Take off your mask," I ordered, taking a step closer to him. Black hesitated for a bit before reaching up and unlocking the black mask from behind, letting it fall off.
"Ethan? You are alive?" Peter gasped, rushing towards us, but I remained standing like a statue. I had a hunch when I first met him back at the vault; there was no way I would meet those blue eyes and not realize it. Although his face was altered, it was still Ethan.
"You guys know me?" Ethan stumbled out, locking gazes with them one after the other before settling on me. I could see in his eyes that he had so many questions, I did too.
"Mom? Is this Dad? He looks so much like me." I heard Little Black's voice from beside me, and I was shocked. I hadn't realized he had walked up to us.
"Let's head out now, I will explain it all to you," I said, my throat feeling tight and clogged with emotions as I stared up at Ethan in longing.
"You're forgetting the last step, Mom. You need to blow Dominic up," Little Black tsked.
"Why don't you do it?" I said softly, pushing the button up to Ethan, who still hadn't gotten his eyes off me.
"So, you are my wife... and I have a cute son," Ethan mumbled, pulling me into his hold. His lips landed on mine, and he kissed me hard. I felt my body melt into his, followed by his hand holding mine that held the control and pressing the button as it let off a beep sound.
Tears slid down my cheeks as I found it hard to breathe. Seven long years, and we were finally reunited. A slow smile spread on my lips as I savored the moment, feeling like I was home. The world around us melted away, leaving only the two of us, lost in our own little bubble of happiness.
“Hey Dad! Don't you miss me too?” Little Black snapped as us both, while the rest chuckled in amusement.
