Chapter 44 A BODY NO LONGER MINE
Chapter 44 A BODY NO LONGER MINE
A BODY NO LONGER MINE
SERAPHINE'S POV
Hours passed and my torment grew with no remorse. My body was weak yet, I felt my wolf thrashing inside me like violent waves.
"Please...no more." I begged.
"Don't worry, Seraphine, I'm getting you back to safety." Azrath let out, thinking I had referred to him.
I was begging my wolf, the ghost, whatever it was awakening inside of me to quite down.
What have I done to myself?
Why did I touch that Lycan queen's statue?
\-Now is not the time to complain Seraphine- The ghost's voice echoed in my head painfully, I squinted my eyes and clasped my hand around my ears, as though that would get rid of the voice.
I felt the warmth of Azrath's face flush against mine as he looked down on me.
\-The hour for you to cause chaos has come, you will kill Azrath first before you destroy Drakoria- What followed the ghost's voice was a shrill maniacal laughter.
"No, please, stop this!" I begged again. But in a bid to punish me, The ghost wrapped her fingers around my heart and squeezed. I shook as breath clutched, I wrecked out more blood, the metallic taste clinging to my tongue.
Azrath quickened his steps and carried me into my chamber.
"No, not here." I said when the familiar warmth of the chamber hit me. "Take me back to that cave, Azrath." I muttered to his face.
He shook his head slightly. "No, Seraphine. You will stay here while I go to get a healer for you."
"I don't need one." I protested, coughing out more blood.
That demand to go back into that cave wasn't from me, rather it was the ghost speaking through me. So this was what it had meant when it said it was going to use my body as host.
I tried to fight to regain control over my body but I was too weak to put up a fight, against my own self.
Each time I tried to resist the ghost, it clutched my heart tighter. I cursed under my breath as I tried to take in more air into my lungs.
Azrath laid me on the bed gently. He looked around the room and walked away.
I thought he had left the room. I tried to get up but his stern warning made me halt. "Don't even think of getting up, Seraphine. Now lay back down."
I obeyed like a puppet.
\-You cannot stay here, Seraphine. You have to return to that statue. Now. You are her reincarnation. You have no purpose. The Lycan queen is awakening to continue her just deeds-
I clenched my teeth tighter. Instant cold enveloped me in that minute. My wolf continued to thrash harder, trying to fight off the ghost. I knew it would only take a few moments before the ghost overpowered my wolf. This wasn't good.
"Azrath, please..." I coughed out the words, "You need to take me back to the cave."
He walked over to me with a small rag and a bowl, setting them down close to me, he crouched, dipped the rag into the bowl. I watched him squeeze the rag before bringing it close to my mouth. I stopped him before the rag could touch me.
"I will only spew out more blood."
"And I will continue to clean them up. Now let me."
I released my hold and let him clean the blood off my face. He wiped even the tiniest speck from my face.
"Azrath, please take me back to the cave. I will only get well if you take me back there." I saw his jaw clenched after I said those words, his back straightened. His gaze left my chin and locked with mine.
"I initially thought you would be safer there. Now, I have no idea what I have unlocked inside you."
\-Lies- The ghost screamed inside my head. Its shrill laughter followed. -It's all a white lie. This was a deliberate act by him. He knows exactly what has awakened inside you. But he's still in denial-
The ghost cackled wickedly again.
\-You think all of this he's doing... Why he is still keeping you alive is because he cares about you- Its wicked laughter rang in my head, eliciting anger from me. The colour of my eyes changed instantly, I stared down at Azrath with fury.
Why, why was I letting this creature have so much control. It had not only taken control of my body but my mind. Frustration with a mixture of anger gnawed at my insides.
\-He knows exactly what you are. A mere vessel for the Lycan queen. She is almost awakened. Finally. When she has fully awakened, my mission inside of you will be over- The ghost kept saying over and over again inside my head, driving me insane.
"Why don't you want to take me back to the cave?" I asked in a small voice.
Azrath ignored me, wringing water out from the rag. He reached for my face but I stopped him.
"Tell me Azrath. Do you not want to take me back because you've finally gotten what you wanted?"
His body grew rigid. Something in his eyes always flickered before he went into instant denial.
"What are you talking about, Seraphine?" He asked, his forehead creasing.
"You know what..." He said quickly, "Don't even answer me. Look at the condition you're in. You don't know what you're saying."
"My body might be in pain, but my senses are not."
"How can you ask me to take you back to the place that obviously caused you these injuries?" He said. "I guess you hit your head too hard on the floor. Let me finish cleaning you up, then I will get a healer for you." He added and I didn't press further, regardless of the ghost's nagging.
I couldn't deny that Azrath was rather too gentle while he wiped my face clean, despite those dangerous looking scales on his hand.
He made sure his palm didn't graze my skin.
"I'm going to ask you to do this one more time. Stay here and don't try to move around. I'm going to get the healer." He said, gathering the bowl and the rag before heading for the door.
