Chapter 340 Wishes

Chapter 340 Wishes
ADRIANA

Just as I'd thought, Tim wasn't asleep when I got there.

I'd gotten a report that he barely slept anymore. As a matter of fact, all he did was sit in the corner of his cell and sulk.

His wife had been dead for over a year but still, he had the reaction of a man whose wife was dead for just a few days.

This was the man they really arrested for her murder? How could they do that?

“Tim. Hey. I'm so sorry for disturbing you.”

He stood up immediately and walked over.

“My Queen! How can you be here so late? What is the matter?”

“There is nothing wrong,Tim. I just had something to ask you. Can I come in?”

He looked at me, obviously shocked to see me by this time. He also looked at the guards behind me.

“By all means, My Queen.”

The guards opened the door and he brought the chair for me.

“Now Tim, I'm going to need you to think really hard to that day. I know that your mind was divided because of what you saw and you weren't really concentrating but do you remember seeing a pregnancy test on the kitchen island when you went to turn off the stove?”

Obviously, he didn't understand what I was trying to insinuate. I gave him time to think..

“The pregnancy test itself? No. But I do remember seeing the wrapper. What does this have to do with Lucy?”

Did I have the guts to tell him?

“Tim, I just finished having a conversation with Sandy, I'm sure you know her. Did you know that Lucy was trying IVF?”

“What did you say?”

I'll take that as a no.

“Sandy said that Lucy didn't have a normal miscarriage. She was scared to carry the babies again and she asked Sandy to help her be a surrogate when the IVF treatment failed.”

I could see the tears gathering in his eyes but I had already dug the hold. The only thing to do was just to lie in it. There was no better option.

“My Queen, what are you saying? How can my wife do all of this behind my back? I mean, she wouldn't do such a thing.”

“I'm sorry, Tim. I think she just wanted a baby badly and she didn't want to accept the fact that she was at risk for miscarrying again. But Sandy didn't take the plea. She made sure Lucy kept getting the IVF treatment and eventually, it worked. Lucy was pregnant.”

He was looking at me like I had said the most sacrilegious thing ever.

“My Lucy was pregnant. After so many years, she finally got pregnant. And someone killed her. Do you know why she didn't tell me? Why didn't she tell me? I would have been mad. I just wanted her to be happy.”

He broke down in tears and I just let him be. He had been through so much. Losing his wife and then hearing that he would have had a child.

“She just found out that day. I'm sure she was going to tell you when she got the chance.”

It was heartbreaking to see him lose the ones he loved. How would he recover from everything that had happened?

Things like this could take a toll on a man and make him never remarry.

“What do you think happened to the pregnancy test?”

At this point, I didn't even know. It was either the killer took it or the police had lost it when they were moving around losing other things too.

But what would the killer want with a pregnancy test? Why would the person take it?

I stood up on my feet.

“Tim, I don't know anything for now but I assure you that I will find out what happened. I'll leave you to get some rest. I'm sorry for the bad news, I just felt you should know. Goodnight.”

There was no response from him as he just kept staring at the floor, thinking about what should have been. I can't imagine how much he wishes that Lucy hadn't died, that he had done something to make her stay at home that day because if she had, she wouldn't be dead.

Maybe the child would even have been born and they would be a happy family.

Since there was no one else to speak to, I decided to get some sleep. I have approximately three hours to get sleep before the sun came up.

I can't believe so much time had gone. I yawned as I made my way to the room. Tomorrow, Tobias would be here and I would ask him to his face if he had lied to me because I didn't get what he and Alisha had in common.

But then at the scene of the accident, it didn't seem like there was anything wrong. When he saw the car, I remember his face. He didn't seem sad, or angry or even happy. That's if he were the killer.

He seemed distraught. Like every other person.

Maybe he was a psychopath who was very skilled in hiding his feelings. But that would mean that I would have to start suspecting him for Lucy's murder again.

Tobias was my last witness.

I didn't have any more leads, any more people to question. All that was left to do was work with the information that I had managed to gather and then, make something out of it.

I don't know if the wife would finally be able to pin it all on Alisha. But if I do, that means we have a dead murderer and if I don't, I have to find a living murderer.

How convenient.

I fell head first into my bed without even taking my clothes off. My alarm had been set to six am so that I would be able to check on the kids and take care of them without leaving them for Leo to take care of.
