Chapter 337 I Trust My Husband

Chapter 337 I Trust My Husband
ADRIANA

I slowly got up from the bed because Lana was so unpredictable. Sometimes, she was a light sleeper and other times, even an atomic bomb wouldn't wake her up.

This time around, she was the latter.

I slowly backed away from her until I was out the door.

“Why are you sneaking out of her room?”

“Jesus Christ! Leo!”

I had to hold my chest so that my heart won't fall out. He didn't seem fazed that he had just scared the crown off me. I opened the door again to check on Lana to make sure that she was still asleep.

“Why’re you sneaking out of her room though?”

This kid would be the end of me.

“Maybe you wouldn't have seen me here if you were in your room sleeping. I'm the adult here. What are you doing here?”

I pulled him along with me.

“I always check on Lana every night before I go to bed. I just got back from the Twins’ rooms.”

He does that? I never noticed.

“Are you asleep yet?”

He looked at me like I should know the answer to that.

“Pretending to be. I told them to do that the first person to sleep gets an extra chicken at breakfast tomorrow.”

Liam won't fall for that.

“Liam doesn't like chicken. SHE prefers turkey.”

He frowned.

“Not anymore. Didn't you know? He likes chicken now. I don't know what Elijah told him but he won't eat anything else.”

Wow, I had really missed out on a lot. Just the same way I had almost missed out on Lana's first words.

I guess I couldn't even blame Elijah for it.

“Get some sleep, baby. I need to see your father.”

He said something that made me stop in my tracks.

“Are you guys done fighting over Lucien yet?”

I turned around to look at him. Of course, he'd noticed but I guess I didn't expect him to call me out on it.

“We’re not fighting over Lucien. It's just some issues that we have to settle. It's nothing really.”

I knew that he didn't believe me.

“You don't have to lie to me, mum. I know when something is wrong. Goodnight. Dad's in his office with his new favorite son.”

I couldn't even say anything to him because he had already walked away. There's no way Leo thought that Elijah loved Lucien more than him.

This rubbish had to stop. I made my way to his office since Hazel hadn't come to tell me that Sandy was here.

I didn't bother knocking because I didn't know before so there was no reason for me to knock now.

Leo was way off point. Lucien wasn't the one in his office. Simone was.

I looked at the clock on the wall and saw that it was past two in the morning. Of course, Simone had that smile on her face that meant that she knew her presence here affected me.

Thankfully, they time around, she was fully clothed but that didn't mean that she didn't wear something indecent.

I could see the way she was leaving towards the table so that her cleavage would be on full display.

I should have dragged her by the hair and asked the guards to flog her until that silly excuse for a nightgown tore from her body but I just stood there.

Elijah stood up.

“Adriana, I had no idea you were still awake.”

He looked back at Simone and moved closer to me so that his next words would be a whisper.

“I assure you that I can explain. She's just-”

I didn't even want to hear it.

“Don’t worry about it. I just came here to check if you were with your new favorite son. But it seems you're busy with other things. Goodnight.”

“Adriana, wait. I can explain.”

There was nothing to explain. Even though he wasn't guilty, he was sure as hell sounding like it and that just makes the whole thing more annoying.

“Explain what? Are you doing anything wrong? No! So it's fine. Have a good night.”

I heard footsteps behind me..

“Adriana, she's here.”

I gave Elijah a fake smile and then walked away from him.

No, I didn't want to think that. I didn't want to think that he was actually cheating on me..I mean, I didn't exactly catch him doing anything wrong, did I?

So there was nothing to hold him to.

“Are you okay, Adriana?”

I didn't turn to face her because I knew that she would read my face.

“Yes, I'm fine. Why won't I be? Because that woman is in his office at this ungodly hour dressed like that? I trust my husband.”

She didn't say anything at first.

“Do you, though?”

Elijah wouldn’t do anything to hurt me. At least, not intentionally. I shouldn't even be considering the possibility of this but right now, I didn't think that I had any other choice.

“I’m sure he has a reasonable explanation for that.”

Hazel would defend Elijah with her life. What did I expect of her though? She was loyal to him first.

I stopped walking and turned to face her.

“Have you spoken to him though? I mean, since all this started. Have you asked him what exactly has been wrong with him for the past few weeks?”

She hesitated for a moment..

“I think you should speak to your husband. He'll explain better.”

I looked at her and I knew that I wouldn't be able to get any more from her.

What had I even gone to his office to talk about?

All thoughts of Elijah flew out of my head the moment I entered the room and saw Sandy.

“Sandy, please sit. I can't begin to tell you how much I'm so sorry that I had to bring you all the way out here by this time. I know you had a long day and you need rest for work tomorrow but thank you for being here.”
