Chapter 322 Come Quick Enough

Chapter 322 Come Quick Enough
ADRIANA

“Addy-”

“Elijah, please. I'm trying to get some sleep. Sleep that I couldn't get because you left me in that cell for days! Please, leave me alone.”

I walked over to my side of the bed and pulled the covers over me.

I didn't have time to banter words with him.

“Why’re you acting like this? I thought I already apologized. Why are you making it to be something it's not?”

I knew what he was doing. Riling me up so I would talk. But I won't give in to him.

I had to get up early tomorrow. Tobias was coming and I was almost definitely going to be spending the first part of the day alone since I wanted Hazel to go and get me the case files.

After I saw Tobias, I would meet up with her so that we would go to Lucy's house together.

From what I gather, the house had been closed down since the murder. I just hoped that no one had gone into the house after the murder to mess things up.

“Adriana, going to bed while angry isn't going to make things better. Besides, I had no idea you were going to get yourself in trouble.”

At that point, I just couldn't take it anymore.

I should have informed him that I was going to get in trouble?

“You may not know this but that's usually what happens when you get involved with the police! How was I supposed to know that his friends would call his father and tell him that we kidnapped him?”

“Maybe you shouldn't have taken the kid in the first place! How about that?”

Was he joking?

“How else was I going to know who his father was? You don't suppose that I have witch powers, do you?”

He scoffed.

“What has gotten into you? Why're you like this? How was I supposed to know that you were arrested? You think I sit around all day and do nothing?”

Well, now that he mentioned it….

”No, I know that you're busy. You're so busy with your new found son that you've forgotten that you have a family.”

He rolled his eyes and walked over to the window.

“What are you on about this time around? What are you saying?”

He wanted to argue right? Very well then, I can give him what he wants.

“Maybe I should ask you where the hell your phone was for two days when I was calling you repeatedly. Even Hazel called you but you didn't pick up so what exactly do you want from me?!”

I didn't even have to have called him because he's my husband! He's supposed to know that I'm not home but no. He was too busy going around with his new son.

”So what you're trying to say now is that Lucien is the problem? Leave him out of this. He has nothing to do with this. He's not the reason you're in jail.”

I can't believe this. What had happened to my husband all of a sudden?

“No, he's not. You are. It's your fault all this is happening. I should blame you. It's your fault I got groped, slapped and assaulted. Where the hell were you when I needed you, Elijah?”

I'd asked him what was wrong, why he was so absent and distracted but I remembered he'd said it was nothing and that I shouldn't worry.

I just figured that he wasn't ready to talk about it and eventually, he would open up to me.

I was wrong. He would eventually end up blaming me for everything.

“What do you want from me, Adriana? Didn't I eventually come to save you? Didn't I show up?”

Is that what this was about? I didn't need him to show up if he didn't come when I needed him!

“I can't believe you. I have nothing else to say to you, Elijah. Good night.”

I picked up my pillow and walked out of the room.

“Adriana, you can't leave whenever you feel like it. That's not how our marriage works.”

Now he was remembering how our marriage worked.

“You should have thought about that when you abandoned me in the police station and abandoned your kids for their teenage brother and the maids to take care of. You're absent and you're not even dead yet.”

If I stayed in that room, there was a high chance that I might say something that would hurt him.

I went to my room and dropped the pillow on the bed. I really didn't want to sleep alone. The room was so quiet that the only thing I could hear was my breathing.

I tossed and turned until I realized that the sleep wasn't coming anytime soon. So I left my room.

I first went to Lana's room to check whether she was sleeping yet because she was very tricky.

She'd act like she was asleep and then as soon as you turn your back, she would jump awake and start playing.

And the twins always encouraged her.

Luckily, she was fast asleep and I knew that if I move closer to her, she would jump awake.

It was like she had a sensor to know when I was around.

I closed the door and went to the twins room. Those ones were also very consistent at tricking me but they weren't as good as Lana.

I guess they were teaching her a few things.

Leo was the only one who didn't bother to act like he was asleep. When he wasn't, I always knew.

As I approached the door, I saw him coming out of their room.

“I just put them to bed. They had a lot of questions about why you and dad were raising your voices at each other.”

Shit, of course they heard that.

“It's nothing. We just had a few things to settle.”

He didn't believe that.

“Is it because he didn't come quick enough?”

I couldn't answer that so I just pulled him in for a hug.
