Chapter 68 A Proper Queen
Fernanda woke up the next morning with a slight headache and beads of sweat on her forehead. She wasn't able to sleep properly throughout the night due to a nightmare that had been recurring for the past few nights.
Lately, she had been dreaming about her mother. Now it wasn't the form of a silver wolf she took but her real self. Fernanda could see her face but what didn't seemed right was her voice. It was always inaudible. She could clearly see her mother's mouth moving but can't hear her.
She couldn't hear a thing the first few times she dreamt of her but this recent one had a change. Her mother's voice was no longer inaudible but incoherent.
Fernanda felt like there was so much she does not know about her mother. Who she was before marriage to her father, being a member of the order and also birthing the catalyst. There are so many depths to Lilith Stone and Fernanda intended on uncovering the truth about her mother, layer by layer.
Which was also why she needed to see her father today so they could discuss in full length about her mother.
"You are awake your majesty," Yolanda greeted with a small bow, surprising Fernanda. "Yolanda! How have you been?" Fernanda exclaimed with an excited squeal, rushing out of the bed to go pull her into a hug.
"Oh my!" Yolanda exclaimed when Fernanda crushed into her, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Her eyes darted round to see whether the other maidservants present were looking at them.
They only minded their business and went about their usual duties, making Yolanda heaved a sigh of relief.
"It's good to see you back in one piece your highness, I knew the majesty would ensure that. He wasn't planning on coming back without you and the longer it took, the more afraid we became." Yolanda said, with an expression that looked like she was about to cry.
"Believe me when I say I was also not going down without a fight." Fernanda replied with a glee. "Besides, I'm a changed woman now. It would be foolish of anyone to attack me now," Fernanda said with a small wink that left Yolanda confused.
"I deeply apologize for putting through all of that, if only I hadn't been hell bent on leaving Sebastian. I hope he wasn't harsh on you?" Fernanda asked, a guilty expression settling on her face.
"You do not need to apologise for anything your highness. I'm a grown woman who is fully capable of making her own choices. Whatever happened to me was as a result of my own choices and not yours so please... Do not take the blame for me." Yolanda softly reassured Fernanda.
"Although I must admit, his majesty was quite unforgiving at first when he realized you were with me when the kidnapping occurred. But I made him see sense." Yolanda told Fernanda, returning a small wink of her own.
"It's just as Maya had told me. She said you are very smart and was confident that you'd be able to handle things on your own." Yolanda raised her brows, "You flatter me too much your highness,"
Fernanda then looked around, there were up to six maidservants in her room, going to and fro. "Speaking of the king, have you seen him this morning?" Fernanda asked.
Sebastian had stayed when she asked him to yesterday night. She recalled him calming her back to sleep after she woke up in the middle of a nightmare from the nightmare. He held her firmly and reassuringly but when she woke up he was gone.
"His majesty had some urgent civik matters of the kingdom to attend to. There has been a pile up during his absence and each and every single one of them needs tending to." Yolanda told her.
Fernanda was surprised at how much Yolanda knew. "You seem to know a lot about the affairs of the kingdom Yolanda." She stated with a playful jab at the woman.
"I tend to be quite observant when necessary your highness," Yolanda said, "Your bath is now ready."
Fernanda remembered she needed to see her father, "Oh yes, I must get ready quick. I'm paying my father a visit at home today. There are certain things I wish for us to discuss." She said as thoughts of her mother came back into mind.
"But first, I need you to tell me, do I look queenly enough?" Fernanda's voice was a bit too loud when she asked the question, taking Yolanda aback. Even the maidservants who were trying hard to make it seem like they were minding their own businesses were also surprised. They all either paused or cleared their throats.
Fernanda saw everything and gave an awkward smile, "Of course, you look like royalty. Why would you ask that?"
"Nevermind. I just need to look regal enough for a particular reason today. It's important." Fernanda responded, the main reason why she wanted to make a royal impression was because of Caroline.
Fernanda would certainly relish the look of confusion mixed with intimidation on her stepmother's face when she sees Fernanda pull outside the Parkinson's mansion with an entourage while also dressed as the proper Queen of Clawshire.
It was going to be a glorious sight for Fernanda.
Maya, unsure of what to do when she woke up, began to roam around the cold palace looking for a place to insert herself. She had been ordered to rest and recover well by the king and had been given a really comfort and cozy room.
Despite all the good treatment, Maya felt somewhat restless and uncomfortable staying in a room all by herself for a whole day. Upon descending from the stairs, Maya turned towards the direction of the hallway on her right, one that leads to the royal kitchen.
"Ouch!" She exclaimed when she bumped her entire face into a hard mass of body. "I apologize, I wasn't looking." Maya immediately said, thinking it was a random Lycan soldier running an errand.
"Why aren't you in your bedroom resting?" She heard Levi's voice and immediately snapped her head up to look at him. He was staring down at her with a deep frown on his face. Maya laughed nervously, she would have preferred if she was seen by Sebastian himself instead.
"I grew bored in that room, everything is too comfortable and it makes me uncomfortable. I just came out to get some fresh air." She explained to him, still carefully caressing the part of her forehead that bumped into his chest.
Levi looked at her like she just spewed nonsense, infact Maya was convinced herself that she did.
"I have never seen anyone complain of having a room that's too comfortable that it chokes them." Levi said and Maya rolled her eyes. "So where were you heading to in hopes of getting fresh air? The kitchen" he added and Maya had never felt more infuriated.
"Can you kindly stop with the scolding? I'm not a child," Maya stated in her defense, "But you certainly keep acting like one. And which makes me treat you like one too, so go back to your room. Now." Levi stated firmly.
"I won't. What is it with you anyway? First you act all gentlemanly with me and the next thing I know, you are being harsh and grumpy." Maya snapped, her face twisting into a frown.
"I am not a gentleman. And I certainly will not let you make childish decisions at the detriment of your health." Levi's expression was impassive. Maya glared at him hard and he only shrugged his shoulders, gesturing towards the direction she had came from.
"Tch." She muttered before turning and began to ascend the staircase. Levi followed suite, careful trailing after her. "And why are you following me?" She demanded when they got to the top. "I want to be sure you got back into bed a slept." Maya scoffed when he said that.
"You are beginning to confuse me vice commander," she muttered silently as she turned and continued walking. When they finally arrived at her room, Maya paused before she entered.
"What?" Levi asked, wondering why she stopped. "Are you perhaps... Infatuated by me?" Maya blurted out, covering her mouth immediately out of embarrassment.
Levi raised his brows in surprise at her question and before he could even respond, Maya immediately opened the door and went inside, shutting it almost immediately too.
Maya wanted to scream into her palms so he wouldn't hear her but she recalled that Levi is a Lycan and can literally hear even the tiniest sounds so there was no way he wouldn't hear.
Levi stood still outside of Maya's room, his eyes still fixed on the door she had shut in his face. He had no idea his heart could race so embarrassingly fast at just a simple question..
Although Levi didn't know how to respond but he was sure of one thing, "Yes." He thought to himself. "I'm infatuated by you little witch."
"Well that went well... " Maya muttered softly when she heard Levi's footsteps retreating.
