48 - Pure as oxygen
THALIA ZAHARA.
Pure as oxygen?
Isn’t that cute?
I would have expressed my amusement with a grand laugh if I wasn’t occupied with how easily he led me into the room.
Once the doors closed, our hands separated and I removed my jeans while approaching the bed. Ezra was right, I was sleepy, it just took someone mentioning it to realize how needy my soul was for some sweet slumber.
After I climbed into the bed, I made sure to go back to the other side. So, all I sensed in that position was how he gently placed pillows between us before denting the bed with his body.
“Sleep well, Thalia,” he whispered and I felt soothed.
Is it strange or stupid of me that I want every other night from now on to be like this? It would be nice to fall asleep after hearing that soothing statement. Should I not protest against staying in the same bed with him? Should I just go with the flow?
While my soul asked many questions, my body was already moving on its own and turning to face the man. I met Ezra’s eyes the moment I finished moving, so for a second, I was startled as if I was caught doing something illegal.
When I relaxed, I proceeded to find more peace for my soul in his eyes. Doing that reminded me of the first time I laid my eyes on him. Seeing his eyes that day was enough to temporarily distract me from the fact that I was sitting in a vicious bowl of fire. That makes me wonder what more I could be distracted from thanks to his eyes. Perhaps, the ache in my soul which is yet to leave?
“I can feel your stare,” Alpha Ezra calmly said. “Is it hard to sleep?”
“Uh, no.” My body flipped to the other side. “I am… I’m good.”
A heavy exhale was the only response I got. So, I concluded that I could go ahead and pretend to sleep till I actually sleep.
Alpha Ezra’s pats then landed on my arm and my conclusion was crushed. As his simple pats calmed my soul and urged me to fall asleep, my heart was thrown into mini-chaos and it took a lot of holding back to not turn and find more heart-pounding comfort in his arms.
Ugh… What is wrong with me all of a sudden?
I thought I was not going to allow this man to sway me too much. Am I so desperate for companionship that his talks about being mates are making me go haywire?
Ugh… This is not good at all. This is bad.
I should not get too attached… Now of all times, when my life is getting deeper into trouble, is really not the right time to get attached.
I just…
I sighed and gave up.
After a decision to continue my thoughts another time, I allowed the sleep that had been trying to overpower me to do its job. Soon, I was away in that slumberland, the smile that had unknowingly formed on my lips the moment Alpha Ezra started his pats, not fading for a minute.

EZRA THIAGO.
‘Pure as oxygen?’ My wolf teased the words I used to assure Miss Thalia that being with me was safe. ‘Since when have you been pure as oxygen?’
‘Oh, shut up.’ I didn’t want my beast to push me to make a noise and wake Miss Thalia up so I maintained our mind conversation. She needs the sleep urgently. I am aware that she stayed by my side without sleeping a wink while my body rested to gain the strength it lost under the heavy rain. It would be greatly wicked of me to interrupt the sleep she’s finally found.
Once it was certain that she was soundly asleep, I withdrew my pats and folded my arms towards my chin. With a flutter I failed to comprehend dancing in my heart, I stared at her blurry figure and wondered if I’d be able to be a good mate to Miss Thalia if she accepted me.
‘You don’t think you would be a good mate, Ezra,’ my wolf butted into my thoughts, a rare thing for him to do. ‘If you are shrouded by such thoughts, how do you expect to be accepted? You would not even believe it if she does accept us.’
‘It is all happening very fast. I didn’t think getting drenched in the rain would lead me to realize my feelings. I never expected to fall into the realization that a soul like mine could be mated with someone.’
‘Thalia’s wolf will help her match your realization,’ he replied. ‘Just be patient.’
I sighed, my heart now feeling more heavy than fluttery. ‘Is it true though?’
‘What?’ On days like this, it feels like my wolf is the master of my soul. He is wiser and calmer than me right now.
‘Is it true my sight will be restored once she accepts our mate bond?’
‘You heard the message the goddess sent during your rest. The cure to the curse that has held your sight bound for years is Thalia Zahara. Once she accepts you as her mate, I am certain your sight will return.’
‘What if it doesn’t happen?’ I further exposed my inner feelings. ‘I hate raising hope. I don’t want to expect something that would never come.’
‘You have no choice but to hope. You have to be patient.’
‘If you say so.’ My mind fell into silence but only for a few minutes. ‘When will her wolf manifest?’
‘It should be soon. The signs are there.’
‘By signs, do you mean the ball of fire?’ I asked.
‘You know it only occurs when a true descendant of the Night Stream pack finds their mate, right?’
“Oh,” I exclaimed quietly loudly. Thankfully, it didn’t wake Thalia up. With caution, I headed back to the mind conversation with my wolf. ‘That has never occurred to me. I thought the ball was something related to you or her wolf.’
‘Of course, it is. But the ball depends more on her wolf. That’s why it rarely lasts long. So, definitely, her wolf is almost here.’
I smiled at that statement. Miss Thalia would be very happy once her wolf arrived. I can imagine the beautiful laughter that would be on her lips, it certainly would be music to my ears.
‘Are we working today?’ My wolf asked.
Miss Thalia’s soft breathing reached my ears and any desire to work immediately vanished. So, I shook my head, adjusted the position of my body and answered, ‘Let us rest today. We have been working hard. When tomorrow comes, let us pay a visit to Mona Billani and continue our work as usual.’
