40 - Helpless figure

EZRA THIAGO.

After the Goblin’s confession, fear wrapped my soul, and I left the room with a heavy heart. If I had stayed back, I would have been forced to attack him and that would have allowed him a chance to suck out some of my powers.

As my feet dragged almost helplessly, my thoughts traveled to Miss Thalia and I became afraid for her.

Yes, the impending danger surrounding her in the form of the Goblin was one of the reasons. But the main reason I was afraid was because she had been beating herself up because of the gruesome attempt to take her life. I don’t know the depth of her pain, but I am certain the details of that day caused her to spiral into a depth she might not be able to recover from.

In that case, I should tell her the truth before it is too late. But would doing that change anything? Sure, telling her the truth would reveal that Lycan Octavius was tripling his intentions to trouble her before taking her life. But that might even mess with her mind since she has yet to recover from the scars of the man’s recent deceit.

And it certainly doesn’t help that I might be the reason that beast has chosen to approach Miss Thalia in the wickedest way- by attacking her mind. Perhaps things wouldn’t have gotten so far if we didn't strike that deal. I don’t regret making the deal, but if I had known that Octavius would be very sloppy and undisciplined about his intentions, I would have found another way to temporarily escape the viciousness of the confusing man.

“Alpha Ezra?”

I swallowed my bitter guilt and looked up at Emmag.

“What is it?” I asked. Something in my voice was distasteful and weak.

“The meeting… We are waiting for you.”

“I see. Beta Emmag, we must make the meeting quick.” I have to find a way to permanently get rid of the Goblin. If I had suspected his reappearance long ago, I would have started researching disarming him.

“That is very unlike you, Alpha Ezra,” he commented. “Very, very unlike you.”

“Why?”

“Since when do you make meetings quick? Do you have somewhere important to be?”

“I need to meet Miss Thalia. I wish to discuss something important with her.”

“Oh. Do you know she’s staying in your old room?” Emmag was feeling me out.

“I do. We slept together.”

“You did?”

“Why is that surprising?”

“Uh… It’s not.” He coughed. “Why did I come out here, again? Oh, yeah. May we proceed to the meeting, Alpha Ezra?”

“Sure.”

When I meet Miss Thalia I don’t know what I am going to tell her. Should I start with how she’s in danger? Or do I begin with the news of the Goblin’s presence and how he has harmed her? Or do I not say anything at all but just find something slightly interesting to utter? Perhaps I would finally push the idea of using a bit of her family fortune for the pack?

I guess I’ll find out soon.

“Oh yeah,” Emmag interrupted the silence in our midst. “A letter came from The Night Stream pack.”

I wonder what Octavius is up to this time. “What for?”

“The explosion from the other day happened at The Umber Pack. Lycan Octavius wants all the Alpha Kings to gather at the site of the incident in two days.”

I won’t be surprised if the explosion was one of Octavius’s wicked tactics.

“Can I exempt myself from the meeting?” I asked.

“The letter especially frowned against that.”

“Alright. Let’s get the meeting done with. The main agenda is the bar fights the people keep reporting. We need stronger hands on the case.”

“Oh, that’s why you called the meeting. I was afraid it was for something else.”

That’s a suspicious statement. “Something else like what?”

“I have no idea.” His steps increased. “Let’s go in,” he quickly evaded the question I had yet to ask.

Once the meeting ended on a great note, I rushed out of the room and headed for the garden where Emmag said Miss Thalia would be. But, when I got to the location which had become a little more humid, she was nowhere to be found, no matter how much I walked further and further into the garden.

With the guess that she had left and we missed each other, I raced out of the garden and went back to the palace. But in all the places I checked, she wasn’t there and my concerns abounded more than I wished it to.

I went outside again, this time my heart was pounding with fear but I managed to it hide from the people around me. I contemplated asking one of them about Miss Thalia’s whereabouts but I didn’t want to arouse suspicions. So, with falsified confidence, I relaxed my tense shoulders and started to reason possible locations Miss Thalia could be at. It didn’t help that she didn’t have a phone and it made it worse that Emmag stepped out to get some things for his training session in the evening.

But time was speeding, I needed to start looking for her somewhere.

After a few seconds of contemplation, I decided to go back to the garden with the hope that she never left the place.

But that situation worsened when moments after I took some determined steps, rain started to fall. My wolf greatly hates the rain. The last time I took the chance of moving in the rain with the hope that my wolf would help me and not hide, I crashed into many obstacles and almost made a fool of myself because I could not sense things as I would have if my wolf wasn’t averse to the rain.

Slight devastation in my soul, I tilted my head towards the sky and informed my wolf that I was not going to retreat. I can’t back out when Miss Thalia’s whereabouts are unknown.

So, before the people I was leaving behind could stop me, I started to move, because no matter what, I had to find her and make sure she was indeed not caught in the snares of those itching to kill her.

THALIA ZAHARA.

Thanks to the person I just had a lengthy and satisfactory conversation with, I ended up walking farther away from the garden. So, finding my way back was a little hassle and to worsen matters, the skies opened to bless the land, making my journey back a little difficult.

When my slowed strides finally led me to the beach area, the raging ocean in sight, I noticed a masculine figure standing at the shore. He looked lost in the heavy rain so I ran to him.

“Alpha Ezra?” I was very shocked to see that he was a helpless figure. “What are you doing here? What is going on?”

“Thalia…” His voice was hoarse, and his face carried paleness and some bruises and the sight of him broke my heart.

“What are you-?” He slumped into me before I could get my full question out.
