36 - Pranks?
EZRA THIAGO.
As I stared at Miss Thalia’s blurry figure with great confusion, somewhere in my soul, I mourned how I couldn’t see her despite the unexpected proximity between us. To compensate for the sad moment, I mentally went back to the party at the Night Stream pack where my sight miraculously cleared for a few seconds. All that I saw of Miss Thalia that night replayed in my head and my heart soared.
“Alpha Ezra,” her voice strained and I felt something in me crumble when her breath tickled my skin. “Your hand.” She was trying to get my hand off her chest.
I quickly retracted my touch.
Again… What was wrong with me?
Why was I acting unlike myself? Why did I fall into a trance whenever I am around her? I was starting to lose myself and I didn’t like it.
‘Maybe you haven’t found yourself, Ezra,’ my wolf echoed from a corner of my mind and I almost snickered at his statement.
‘What do you know? I am without a doubt, a full version of myself. And you are a part of me, so yes, I am complete.’
“Alpha Ezra, are you there?” Miss Thalia asked, her voice filled with sleep.
“Uh… Sorry for touching your breast. I thought you were a pillow.”
I bet she was smiling as she said, “I must be the softest human pillow.”
“I should leave so that you can-“ Her hand gripped my wrist before I could move and as it happened while we were conversing in the decoy room, I was compelled to hold her closer.
“It’s your bed. You can’t leave.” Her grip tightened. “Don’t go anywhere. I won’t disturb your space.” The little tingle her touch brought to my skin went away when she wiggled to the far end of the bed. “You stay there, I will stay here.”
“Um… okay?” Didn’t she hate the idea of being in the same bed with me?
“Goodnight, Alpha Ezra,” she happily yet drowsily said.
“Goodnight.” I could not complain about my flickering feelings anymore because sleep came back to me. This time, my soul felt more at ease unlike other days where I would go to sleep with premium worry etched in my soul.
****
THALIA ZAHARA.
Ugh… I simply couldn’t believe it.
I just had the best sleep of my life!
This bed was the best!
As I opened my eyes and stretched as much as I could, a smile I could not erase easily formed on my lips.
I did not have nightmares, I wasn’t haunted by my anxious thoughts and best of all, Emmag was not yet around to get my ass out of my bed.
Could this day get any better?
“Thalia.”
I sat up faster than a soul possessed by a high-ranking demon.
“What are you doing here?” I glared at the child standing at the foot of the bed, the same solemn expression on his face.
“Thalia.”
“How did you…?” My frown deepened. “You should not be here.”
“Thalia.”
“Stop that,” I hardened my voice and started to prepare myself to flee from the room if necessary.
“Thalia.”
“I said stop it!”
“Thalia.” A childish yet devilish giggle followed. But the boy didn’t even open his mouth during that giggle!
“Get out!” I don’t want to touch the boy. I fear something bad will happen if I do. “Get out now!”
“Thalia.” The giggle joined the incessant whispering of my name.
“You are not going to do this shit to me again.” All the happiness I raked thanks to my sleep was about to slip out of my hands. With slight fear in my heart, I got off the bed. “I don’t care if you are being a child, but you don’t get to play pranks on me.”
I rushed past him and his weird chants and giggles and opened the door. I can’t be the only one that witnesses the crazy shit happening right now.
The instant I opened the door, a force closed it back.
“Thalia.” He sounded closer to me.
My soul was wrapped by more fright.
“Thalia.”
I slowly turned and my knees weakened the moment I saw what was waiting for me.
The boy’s body was still facing the bed, but his head… his head was staring right at me! I hate horror movies, so why in the fuckery is this happening to me?
“Thalia.” Now, his mouth wasn’t moving at all. While saying my name, while giggling, while staring at me with his head wrongly positioned, his lips didn’t move yet his voice kept messing with my mind.
“I can’t do this,” my shuddering voice said and I turned to the door once again.
Thankfully, it flung open without hesitation but as I stepped out of the room, I jammed something hard and the scream hitched in my throat was forced out.
“Thalia! What’s wrong?” Emmag held my shoulders and my scream dwindled into breaths of periodic shivers.
“The boy…” My soul got weaker, I could still hear the boy’s voice and laughter.
“The boy?”
“He is in there. He is… messing with my mind.”
“What?” Emmag looked ahead and I became sure that the boy’s presence wasn’t my imagination. “How did he get here? He should be in his room.”
“Emmag,” my hands tried to find support as I wrapped them around his, “that boy… something is wrong.”
“What happened? You are very shaken up.”
“He keeps chanting my name in this very evil way and it is… it is messing with my head, Emmag. He turns his head like he is a freaking robot!”
“Oh.” He doesn’t believe me. “I am sure he’s just trying to catch your attention. He must like your name.”
“He should not like it! He needs to stop saying my name! And did you not hear the part about the robot?!”
“Thalia…” He held my face. “Please calm down. I am sure the boy means no harm. Let me take him to where he should be. When I get back, I will help you feel more relaxed, okay? You must need more sleep.”
I sighed. “Take him out of here.” Judging by Emmag’s response, the likelihood of people believing the craziness I just experienced was slim. So while the boy’s voice continued to ring in my head, I decided to find a solution myself.
So, the minute Emmag and the boy walked out of the room, I raced out and started to hunt for Mona Billani. And when I find her, she had better have answers to my questions.
