Book 8 Part 11

Book 8 Part 11
“Sam! We brought a friend from school!” Slade yelled as we stepped inside the foyer and hung our jackets in the closet and put our helmets on the shelf. Leon followed our example and we went through to the living room.
“Oh that’s nice,” Sam said as she walked into the living room. “Leon?”
“Sammy?” Leon said as they practically ran to each other and he picked her up as they hugged.
Slade and I stood there looking at each other as they hugged and Sam had tears in her eyes. ‘Let’s give them some privacy.’
Slade nodded his head and we retreated from the living room. We headed into the kitchen and I sat down at the counter. Slade grabbed the bottle of juice from the fridge and filled four glasses.
“So, you two know each other?” I asked as they walked towards us and sat down at the kitchen counter.
“We were in the same pack. Truman told us you died with the rogue attacks,” Leon said as he looked at her.
“He banished me after my dad died, I had no idea you had left,” Sam said.
“Yeah, my dad died in the attack too, and I was told to leave or be banished,” Leon said.
“Great, now it’ll take less convincing for Leon to join us,” Slade said with a smile.
“Join you?” Leon asked.
“Yes, Leon, they saved me from two rogues and I’ve been here for a few days now, we’re a pack, the three of us and now we can be four, you can trust them,” Sam said to him.
“I already knew I could trust them,” Leon said.
“We look after our own,” Slade said and Leon laughed.
“I, Leon Suarez, hereby declare my allegiance to my new Alpha, Jericho, and his pack,” Leon said as he took a knee in front of me.
“I accept your allegiance, Leon Suarez. Welcome to our pack,” I said and felt him join our bond.
“So how does this work here?” Leon asked and Slade laughed.
“Shouldn’t you have asked that before you joined us?” Slade asked.
“Well, Sam’s here and I know I can trust you, so…” Leon said and shrugged.
“Sam will show you your new room. As a pack member, you get a salary and we have each other’s backs. Slade and I run the perimeter every night. You can join if you want to, but from now on, you’re under our protection,” I said to him.
“How do you make money for the pack?” Leon asked me.
“We’re okay for now, but eventually we’ll have to generate some sort of income,” I said and Leon smiled as he looked at me.
“I can work with that, I’m good with numbers and I have a knack for the stock market, just never had enough to actually invest,” Leon said.
“Great, you’ll be in charge of the pack’s income and generating it,” I said to him.
We sat at the dining room table and we did our homework while Sam got started on dinner. Leon was on my laptop checking the stock market and explaining something to Slade while he looked like Leon was explaining quantum physics to him in Greek. My phone rang and I answered it quickly.
“Hello,” I said and walked through to the living room.
“Hey kid, how are you?”
“I’m okay and you?” I asked him.
“Why don’t you come get me?” he said and ended the call.
“Hey, guys, Levi just phoned, I’ll be back in a bit with him,” I said as I walked towards them.
“Cool, I’m taking Leon shopping,” Slade said as they stood up.
I closed my eyes and ported to Levi’s house in Montana. I appeared in his kitchen where he sat at the table. I hadn’t been there in three years but it still looked the same. He smiled when he saw me and stood up.
“Let’s go,” he said.
“Back to my place?” I asked him and he nodded.
We appeared back in my living room and Sam looked up from the couch where she was reading a book and Levi turned to look at me.
“That’s Sam and this is Levi, my other grandfather,” I introduced them. Sam stood up and hugged Levi hello, which oddly enough he returned. I knew that he wasn’t a young man anymore even though he didn’t look close to sixty-nine.
“Coffee?” I asked him and he followed me to the kitchen.
“Nice place,” he said as he looked around.
“Actually Grandpa bought it for us,” I said and he chuckled.
“Of course he did,” Levi said.
“So, am I getting my ass kicked or just the normal speech?” I asked him and he smiled again.
“Neither,” he said. “I wanted to see that you were okay. It’s not like your father didn’t pull his own shit back in the day.”
“I’m okay if you take into consideration that my whole life was ripped away in a mere five minutes,” I said.
“Your father’s being an asshole and he’s ordered the family not to talk to you,” Levi said to me.
“I figured something like that when my messages didn’t go through to my mom,” I said to him as I placed the cup of coffee down in front of him.
“I sent her a burner phone, she’ll text you soon,” Levi said and smiled at me.
“A burner phone? You sound like a spy, Uncle Levi,” I said to him.
“I’m impressed to see that you’ve kept the bond alive, you smell like an Alpha and Sam in there smells like your pack member,” Levi said.
“We sort of started our own pack,” I said and he smiled at me again.
“That’s great, kid, when life knocks you down, you get up and carry on. Don’t let your father’s actions make you think that you’re any less than what you are,” he said to me.
“Did you want to stay for dinner?” I asked him.
“Next time, kid, I’m having dinner with Alex and Jo tonight,” he said and stood up as he finished his coffee.
I took Levi home where he told me to call him if I needed anything. I appeared back in the living room as Slade and Leon walked inside with shopping bags. Leon took his bags upstairs and Sam called us for dinner.
“I hope this doesn’t mean you’re bringing someone home every day,” Sam said.
“Well, we still have five more bedrooms to fill,” Slade said and I laughed as Sam glared at him.
“And then you’ll be doing the cooking and laundry while I play Beta,” Sam said.
“Okay, okay, no more pack members,” Slade said and held his hands up in surrender.
“Do you know the name of your future girlfriend yet?” I asked Slade as we all sat down at the table.
“What girlfriend?” Leon asked.
“Pretty, dark brown hair, golden brown eyes, legs for days and the center of Rick’s attention,” Slade said and Sam threw a piece of broccoli at his head.
“Wow, you’re in love already,” she said to him.
“That sounds suspiciously like Harper,” Leon said and pulled a face.
“Why the face, man?” Slade asked him.
“Her father’s the Beta and everyone assumes that she and Rick will imprint so he’s already treating her like his property. I’m not sure if she’s keen or not, but rather stay away,” Leon said and Slade smiled.
“Harper,” he said her name and I laughed. “Don’t think I didn’t see you checking out Miss Charles in English class today.”
“Dani?” Leon said as he choked on his food.
“What do you know about her?” I asked him.
“Not much, she keeps to herself but she’s one of Rick’s favourite targets, he thinks he’s untouchable because he’s the future Alpha,” Leon said.
“More like the future mutt,” Slade said as we laughed.
