EPILOGUE
Phina's POV
“I can’t believe we made it through,” Asher said softly, his hand brushing against mine.
I smiled, letting the tension of the previous days melt a little as I leaned closer. There was finally peace after all the ruckus that looked like it would never end.
The balcony was quiet except for the faint hum of the city lights below, and the night air carried a soft, comforting chill. I could feel the warmth of his hand seeping into mine, a reminder that we were safe, at least for now.
He chuckled quietly. “Every time I look at you, I wonder how I got so lucky.”
I laughed softly, a sound that surprised me even as it felt natural. “Maybe I should ask the same about you,” I teased, letting my fingers trace lazy patterns along his arm.
His gaze held mine, intense and tender, and I could see the relief there too—relief that we had survived, relief that we were together.
The moonlight caught the edges of his hair, and for a moment, the world outside didn’t exist. I inhaled deeply, catching the faint scent of him—wood, earth, and something uniquely Asher. It made my heart thump harder than it had in weeks.
He leaned closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. “I could stay like this forever.”
My chest tightened, a warmth spreading through me. I tilted my head, our foreheads touching lightly. “Forever sounds… perfect,” I murmured back.
The city below flickered with lights, but up here, with him, everything else faded. We sat in silence for a few beats, just breathing, just being.
I rested my head on his shoulder, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest, feeling the comfort of someone who understood me, who had fought by my side through chaos. There was softness in this quiet moment, something that felt both fragile and strong.
Asher brushed a stray lock of hair from my face. “I never want to let go,” he said, voice low, earnest.
I smiled, feeling a rush of gratitude and something deeper, something tender and unspoken. “Then don’t,” I whispered, letting my hand squeeze his.
The night held us, the breeze wrapped us, and for the first time in a long while, I felt completely at peace.
I felt Asher’s hand tighten around mine as a shadow fell across the balcony. Diana stepped lightly onto the edge, her presence calm but noticeable. She tilted her head, eyes glinting with amusement, and gave a soft nod.
“Well, it seems the night finally agrees with you two,” she said, her voice teasing but gentle. “I won’t keep you from your peace.”
Asher gave her a small, half-smile, not letting go of my hand. “Thanks, Diana,” he said quietly, his eyes flicking back to me.
The warmth in his gaze made my heart skip a beat. I laughed softly under my breath. “She always knows the right moment,” I whispered, resting my head lightly against his shoulder.
The faint scent of jasmine in the air mixed with the cool night breeze, grounding me in the moment.
Diana chuckled, the sound soft and melodic, and shifted her weight on the wooden balcony floor. The subtle creak of the boards beneath her feet reminded me how delicate our private space felt, even with her nearby.
“You two enjoy this,” she added, a hint of mischief in her tone. “I’ll leave you to your peace.”
As she stepped back, the air shifted, and a small draft followed her departure. The faint rustle of her clothes and the gentle tap of her shoes faded, leaving only the quiet hum of the city below.
The night felt suddenly still, as if it were holding its breath just for us. Asher squeezed my hand, and I squeezed back, feeling the space between us fill with unspoken words.
“She always knows when to interrupt,” I murmured, a smile tugging at my lips.
He chuckled softly, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “And she always knows when to leave,” he said, his voice low, wrapping around me like a warm blanket.
The balcony felt empty without her, but the silence was ours now, and every glance, every touch, seemed more intimate than before.
I turned back to Asher, our hands still intertwined, feeling the warmth of his fingers wrap around mine like they belonged there.
“Are you really going to let the night end without saying it?” I asked softly, my voice barely carrying over the quiet hum of the city below.
He smiled, leaning closer so his forehead touched mine. “Saying it once isn’t enough,” he murmured, his breath warm against my cheek. “I need you to know… always, Phina. Always.”
He cupped my face, thumbs brushing gently across my cheeks. “I swear it,” he said, eyes locking onto mine with a promise that burned brighter than any words. “Through storms, shadows, and the unknown… I’m yours. Completely.”
Then I leaned into him, letting the soft weight of trust and love settle between us. Every whispered word, every quiet laugh, made the night around us feel impossibly alive.
The warmth of the sofa, the gentle brush of our clothes against each other, and the faint hum of the city all blurred together into a cocoon of shared certainty.
“Together, always,” I said finally, my voice firm with conviction, “to the very end.”
Asher’s lips curved into a smile that reached his eyes, his hand squeezing mine once more. “To the very end, and beyond,” he promised, sealing our vow as the moonlight painted us in silver.
The feeling of his lips on mine was just something I could never get enough of.
