Chapter 167
Chapter 167
Phina's POV
The air shifted before I even opened my eyes. A chill ran through the hall, sharp and electric, and every breath I drew felt heavy with anticipation.
My claws pressed into the stone floor as the transformation began, fur sprouting along my back, silvery and shimmering in the moonlight that spilled through the windows.
I could hear it—the collective intake of breath, the stifled whispers as eyes widened. Jason’s jaw tightened, and Suzanne’s stance wavered ever so slightly, though she tried to hide it.
Every guard froze mid-step, weapons hovering uncertainly as awe mixed with fear filled the room.
The low growl that rolled from my throat resonated through the hall. It wasn’t just sound— it was a warning, a vibration that prickled skin and rattled nerves.
I could smell the metallic tang of blood in the air, the faint burn of magic that had long suppressed my true self, and the scent of fear from the humans and alphas alike.
Jason’s eyes flicked to me, disbelief painted across his face.
“What… what is that?” he muttered, his voice cracking.
I lifted my head, letting the light catch the sheen of my fur, letting the room feel the presence I had always carried but had been denied.
My wolf’s gaze locked on him, piercing, unyielding. I didn’t answer. I let the silence speak.
Suzanne shifted nervously beside him, her heels scraping against the stones, the subtle scent of her perfume now sharp with tension.
She opened her mouth, but no words came. I could almost hear her heart hammering, fast and uneven.
Around me, the hall seemed to stretch and shrink at once. Every whisper, every shuffle, every intake of breath was amplified.
I could taste the cool night air on my tongue. A wide array of emotions were hitting me all at once which I could process, oddly enough. My powers amazed me in ways I couldn't understand.
A guard’s hand twitched toward his weapon, another stifled a shout, and the nobles and alphas leaned back instinctively.
Their eyes weren’t on me as a girl, not anymore—they were on the wolf I had become.
I lowered my head slightly, letting my muzzle brush the floor, letting the full weight of my presence settle.
“Look,” I said softly, letting the growl in my throat underline the word. “I am here.”
The room went still, the tension hanging like a blade. Even Jason faltered, his pride momentarily lost in the awe and fear my wolf commanded.
And in that quiet, I felt the chains around me tremble, preparing to break.
The chains that had bound me snapped silently, almost imperceptibly, but the moment they fell, a surge of power rolled through me.
My wolf and I were no longer separate—every muscle, every nerve, every pulse of magic fused together.
I could feel the strength radiating outward, stretching to fill the hall like a living force.
The air vibrated with energy, small sparks flicking along the edges of my fur, lighting the shadows with a cold, electric glow.
I inhaled, and the scent of magic, of fear, of anticipation, flooded my senses.
Jason and Suzanne stiffened at the change.
The guards shuffled instinctively, eyes wide, some gripping their weapons tighter as if the steel alone could contain what I had become.
Even the nobles leaned back, murmurs dying as the charged silence wrapped around them like a heavy cloak.
I lifted my head, letting the wolf’s silver fur catch the moonlight, and felt the power hum beneath my paws and in my hands.
I raised a clawed hand slowly, and faint arcs of energy sparked at the tips, curling through the air like fireflies.
Every movement carried weight, purpose, and a dangerous elegance.
“You can feel it too, can’t you?” I whispered, voice low, almost a growl. “Everything I am, everything I’ve been denied, it’s here. And it won’t be stopped.”
The floor trembled slightly, and shadows flickered across the walls, bending unnaturally as if the hall itself recognized the shift in power.
I could hear the quickened breaths, the rustle of clothing, the unsteady shuffle of armor.
Suzanne’s lips pressed tight, her eyes wide, pupils sharp as knives. Jason’s chest rose and fell fast, his usual air of control replaced by caution and disbelief.
Even the guards who had been brave moments before seemed rooted, watching, waiting, unable to act.
I stepped forward, claws brushing the stone, letting the sound echo, sharp and deliberate.
“No more chains,” I said, letting the growl under my words vibrate through the room. “No more hiding. I am ready.”
Energy rippled from me, a visible shimmer in the air, and the hall seemed smaller, contained, focused entirely on what I had become.
My wolf’s eyes met mine in perfect unison, fierce and unyielding, and I felt it—the readiness to face whatever came next, the power to reclaim everything that had been stolen.
And then Suzanne’s voice snapped the tense silence.
“You… you can’t…”
Her words were cut short as she lunged forward, the first strike in what would become the fight of our lives.
Suzanne came at me like a storm, claws and teeth flashing, her fury blinding.
I met her head-on, my own claws slashing, my magic crackling around us, each movement precise and deadly.
The hall erupted into chaos, screams and shouts bouncing off the walls as everyone froze, unable to look away.
Her strike barely missed my shoulder, and I felt the heat of her rage radiating through the air.
Sparks of magic collided between us, lighting the space with a harsh, flickering glow.
A pungent smell of blood mixed with sweat and the faint ozone of our powers thickened the air with danger.
I growled, matching her aggression, feeling my wolf’s power surge through me.
Every movement was instinct and precision, each strike measured, countered, and returned with force.
The scent of fear and anticipation from the onlookers clung to me like smoke, sharpening my senses.
Suzanne’s armor tore under my claws, a screech of metal splitting the tense silence.
She hissed, spinning back with desperation, magic flaring at her fingertips.
I could hear the sharp intake of breath from the crowd, the quick shuffle of boots, and the dull thuds of our blows landing, echoing off stone.
“You won’t stop me!” she spat, her voice raw with panic.
But I could see the cracks in her confidence now, the moment where pride falters under true power.
My wolf and I were in perfect sync, a singular force, pushing her back step by step.
Her magic surged once more, a flaring blast that missed, throwing dust and sparks into the air.
I lunged forward, claws extended, and felt the satisfying resistance of flesh and fabric as I hit my mark.
My heartbeat roared in my ears, every nerve on fire, adrenaline and grief fueling each strike.
She stumbled, unsteady, and I pressed, every motion precise, channeling every loss, every betrayal, every memory of my parents.
My claws found their final mark, and I froze, letting the weight of the moment settle before speaking.
“This is for my parents…” I whispered, voice low, steady, raw. My claws went right through her neck in a unforgiving swing which I was sure had rattled Chris. “And this is for Asher.” I swung yet again and she was surely not coming back from that.
Her eyes widened once, then dimmed as she collapsed.
Silence fell, thick and heavy, broken only by the distant echo of my wolf’s growl and my own ragged breathing.
The hall seemed to hold its breath.
