A Meal With The Alpha

A Meal With The Alpha
Sylvia's POV

I hate rumors. But my life had always coexisted with them.

Rumors here, rumors there. I'm always tired of them, always angry at how they frustrate me, but I had no choice.

I had retired to my room early after making sure to do every chores that was assigned to me, because I didn't want to see Vivienne at all.

Newsflash! I've been avoiding her since the hall's last incident.

Apparently, the Alpha had stood her up, and that was because of me. Of course, she'd take it out on me if she found out that he came to my room after he chased her away, but I guess she wasn't able to find that out. Maybe the snoops who wouldn't stop taking rumors around the penthouse were actually sick that day.

I was resting on the bed, playing games on my phone as that was all I could do.  I've got no friends, no one to chat with even if I felt like doing so, and the only one person who had been keeping me busy on my phone had messed up real bad.

That was Alpha Damian.

Just when I dropped my phone and tried to maybe take a nap, or sleep and wake the next day, my phone rang.

My body jolted up quickly as I was expecting no call. It wasn't a saved number, and that made my face creased before I picked it up.

And damn! I hadn't expected that sexy voice that came from the other end of the phone.

Valen Voss.

“To my room. Right now” the way he gives orders even sounded sexy.

Dam, Sylvia. What are you thinking!

“Okay” that was all I could mutter before the call came to an end.

Why did he call for me?

I tried to recall the last time I had gotten a call on this phone, but couldn't remember. Valen also hasn't called before, he usually enjoys having maids walk a mile just to deliver a few words to me.

I was still dressed as I was too lazy to take a shower when I got back into the room.

All I did was wash my face.

I moved out of the room, closing the door, pretending to lock it because of the damaged lock.

Taking a few steps as the evening wind blew my hair off my neck, I arrived at Valen's room.

Knock! Knock!

I didn't wait for a response before I pushed the door open.

Valen was seated on a stool, a table of meals which could be mistaken to be a feast placed in front of him at the centre of the room, and across Valen was another stool which I knew was placed there for me.

“You called for me, Alpha?” I asked.

He gestured towards the stool. I didn't object and just walked towards it, settling down.

“Have a meal with me,” he said.

I sighed. “Alpha, I'm sure you heard the rumors going around today right?”

Of course, everyone in the penthouse heard about it, and they painted me as the bitch when Valen was the one who kissed me.

“What rumor?” He asked.

Asshole! He was trying to act like he knew nothing.

“The one about me and you kissing” I gritted. He chuckled.

“Oh, really?” A smirk curled up his lips. “But we kissed, didn't we?”

“It's ruining me, Alpha! Having them talk about me every time is ruining me!” I yelled.

“Imagine what they will say if anyone sees me here having a meal with you” I said.

I had drawn the line before, but I couldn't even recall how we had both crossed that line again.

“Well, then they would have to talk about you spending the night in my room too” Valen picked up the spoon.

“What?” My forehead creased. “No way you're making me spend the night in your room”

“Someone will come to fix the lock tomorrow, I've fixed an appointment.” He paused. “And from now till then, you won't be staying in that room as it is not safe”

Scoffs……“It was never safe!”

“I spent the night there yesterday, and guess what, Alpha? I had a nice sleep” I rolled my eyes.

“Table manners, Sylvia” Valen said without raising his head to look at me and I scoffed again.

I hadn't known he liked food like this.

I kept quiet, trying to give him space to have his meal, but was asked to join in.

No, not ‘asked’ commanded is the right word.

“Eat!” Valen said, with a gaze that wouldn't make me decline.

I dug into the food, a part of me glad that I got to eat dinner without having to visit the penthouse kitchen. Besides, the meal I was going to get would be entirely different from the one the Alpha is having.

Crab soup, with cooked cow blood, along with some steak from cow meat.

A luxurious meal the other maids didn't get tonight.

After the meal, I stood up from the stool, trying to maintain my place as the Alpha's maid.

“I'll clear the plates, Alpha” I told him, reaching for the large trays when he grabbed my hand. I let out a soft gasp.

“I thought you didn't want them to know that we are together?” He said, and I totally agreed with him.

“What would the headline be this time around?” Valen said.

Asshole! The Alpha was teasing me.

“Maybe, a lovely date in the Alpha's room, but his date ended up clearing the table?” He laughed at his own joke which I didn't find funny.

“Thank you for the meal, Alpha. I'll take my leave, now” I said.

His gaze darkened. “I was serious when I said you are spending the night here”

I sighed. “And I was serious when I said I'll be fine on my own”

Well, I didn't care the expression on Valen Voss's face as I turned immediately I said the words, heading back to my room.

I stood in front of my room, my feet grounded to the floor, my gaze lingering on my door.

Though the lock was already damaged, I knew the door had been tampered with after I left to see Valen.

Slowly, I opened the door and immediately knew that someone was inside, lurking around in the shadows.
