My eyes widened as I turned and Veronica was right there at the door
The world went still for a while and everything paused, including my breath
I couldn't move or find any words until she dashed out
"Veronica!" I called after her, finally finding my voice. "Veronica please wait."
She did not wait. She ran away in tears and I walked back to avoid causing a scene
"Fuck fuck fuck," I muttered under my breath as I ran my fingers through my hair and over my face
"Did...Do you think she heard us?" Sophie asked behind me.
I turned round wildly in anger and she shifted back with a light gasp.
She braced herself and cleared her throat
"What do you mean by did she hear us?" I growled. "Does it seem to you that she didn't hear?"
"Keep it down," she said.
"She heard us," I wasn't calm. "She heard it, she knows everything. We are doomed. The whole pack and the Alpha are going to know what you have been doing."
"You mean what we have been doing?" she said with stress on the we and I glared at her.
"Anyway, you have to calm down. Even if she's heard we have to handle it."
"Handle it how?" I asked. "You think you have a plan for everything. Just tell me how the hell you intend to worm your way through this."
"I will, just calm down and let me handle it," she said.
"I told you I didn't want to be a part of this," I paced around restlessly. "I warned you about all of these but you wouldn't listen. Now look where it has landed us. The Alpha is going to have our heads. I am going to lose my wife. I..."
"Can you just shut the fuck up and let me think?" She half yelled at me.
I went mute immediately and we both turned to the door, worried that it might have drawn attention.
Then she lowered her voice.
"I said you should pull yourself together and let me handle it," she said. "Be a man. Yes, this is messed up, but we have to find a way around it somehow. But we will not be able to if you keep acting like a pussy."
I tried to calm down. Not because of what she said but because I needed my sanity at least.
"Shit, shit, shit..." I couldn't stop muttering.

I didn't stop till I got home and collapsed on the bed.
First, it was an absolute shock. I couldn't believe what I heard and saw.
If this were to be a rumour, the ones who started it and the ones who spread it would have lost their heads. All of them.
This was the Alpha's wife. The Luna and...the beta of the pack, my husband. Having an affair with each other.
What's more, the Luna was not even carrying the Alpha's child. She's been lying to him and everyone.
I did not even know what to think, how to handle it all. What in the devil's name has been going on behind our backs?
And James, how could he do this to me? I thought we loved each other, that he loved me.
I never imagined he would do this to me.
James... We've been together for so long, so in love.
The tears fell. The pain was excruciating.
I did not know how long I had buried my face on the bed, crying profusely until I had no more tears to shed
And that was when I heard the door open. That was when James decided to come home.
There was silence for a while. I knew he was standing there
I sat up gently, my back against him.
"So you finally decided to come to me after spending all the time you wanted with her," I said, my voice thick from crying
"Wipe your tears, Veronica."
I paused. The person talking was not James, but the woman he had cheated on me with. She had followed me home.
I scrambled to my feet and glared at her.
"What are you doing here?" I asked with anger laced in my voice. "Where is my husband?"
"Calm down, Veronica." It was how unfazed she was while saying it that made me even angrier. "I just want us to talk."
"Leave my house this instant," I yelled, pointing at the door. "I don't want to talk to you."
She smiled. Wait, was she actually smiling?
Her composure made me question for a split second if she was actually the same one I had caught with my husband
"I understand how you feel," she said. "And I understand how... shocking this must have been for you. But I will admonish you to be calm, okay? We can talk this through."
"Talk about what exactly?" I said. "Talk about how you have been sleeping with my husband behind my back or talk about how you've been deceiving the whole pack and the Alpha about your pregnancy?"
"None of those," she said. "It's quite unfortunate you heard all of that. You shouldn't have. But now that you did, let's talk about what it would take to keep your mouth shut, pretend like you never heard any of that and life goes on like before. What do you think about that?"
I looked at her in disbelief. I could not believe she was actually talking like that. I never realised how evil-minded the said Luna is.
She's been hiding under the facade of royalty but beneath it is a very ugly side I was just seeing for the first time. She exuded evil so well like it was a nature. And now she's saying I should pretend I ever heard such terrible things like she was asking me to forget a minor thing that didn't matter.
She was cheating on her husband, the Alpha, with my own husband, the Beta. With no regard for her person as the Luna of the pack. She's lied about being pregnant, and I'm supposed to pretend I don't know anything about it?
