I had fallen deeply asleep. I did not know when the door opened and someone was walking in until I sensed someone hovering over me in my sleep
My eyes half opened, I muttered.
"James? James is that you?"
"Yes honey," James replied. I stood up from the bed and rubbed my eyes.
When they were fully opened I looked at him. He had changed into his pyjamas
"What happened?" I asked him.
"My love, I am so sorry," he said. "I was held back by some of my good old friends from other packs. We had some drinks, and I lost track of time."
I looked outside the window at the darkness, wondering what the time was
"Are you serious honey? It's our wedding night! Don't your friends know that? Like, how does a man lose track of time when he just got married a few hours ago and should be spending time with his wife?"
"I understand honey," he muttered. "I am so sorry."
I had been too upset for too long waiting for him, and there was no need to drag it on now that he's here.
"Fine, we need to do something to make up for all the time lost," I said tugging at his trousers. "Quickly, we shouldn't miss our wedding night."
"Darling it's already the next day," he said reluctantly. My hands fell off.
"What? You stayed that long outside? The wedding was concluded on time so we can spend the night together!" The anger was returning.
"No, darling, you were asleep when I came back, and I didn't want to bother you when I returned. I thought you must be really tired. And I am tired too, really. Let's just sleep and do it later."
I gasped lightly in anger.
"Do you know how long I was up waiting for you?" I shrieked. "Now you come back and you're telling me some bullshit about being tired. I am not going to take that."
"Come on sweetheart, we can always make love anytime we want. It doesn't mean anything." He tried to touch my shoulders but I brushed him away.
I turned to the other side of the bed and grudgingly lay on my side.
"Veronica?" He called softly. "Honey?"
But I was in no mood to talk to him.

"What do you mean by you don't think this will work anymore?" She snapped at me.
"Because it's beginning to look like what the Alpha has with Aria is deeper than what we were made to believe," I said.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean come to think of it," I told her. "A man caring about a woman that much to have followed her for antenatal? Come on. I feel like there's more to it than we know."
"Oh stop being ridiculous. Jason might have followed Aria to the hospital, but it doesn't mean anything special. That baby in Aria's womb is the reason why Jason even had anything to do with her in the first place. If we can take that baby away, she'll lose her power and worth, don't you get it?"
"How is the baby of another man important to the Alpha, does this even make any sense? What if that baby is actually his?"
She looked like irritation made bile rise to her mouth.
"Can you listen to yourself?" She said to me. "Can you just listen to yourself talk? I thought you were clever but your brain is as old as your ass. Don't try to stick out your neck trying to know what is none of your business. Do you think I'll kill the Alpha's child?"
"I'm already risking my head by doing your bidding, shouldn't I at least know what I am doing it for?"
"If there is any important information you need, I will let you know. For now, all you need to do is work with what I tell you. That is what is important. Any other information is not for you."
I leaned back on the table feeling very reluctant but I knew I couldn't say no to Natasha
"Is there something else I can do aside from this?" I tried to persuade her. "I have a feeling it might not go as planned and I am afraid of the Alpha's wrath."
She walked closer to me and stood at my face
"If you had that much fear in you, you wouldn't have killed your own husband, a reputable member of this pack, and even got away with it."
Natasha wouldn't stop talking about my darkest secret. She held that much power over me, and if I didn't want her to let it out, I had no choice but to do what she said.
"I will try to distract the Alpha," she said, away from my face now. "You get Aria here and do what you need to do. Make sure it goes well. Aria is not our true Luna, nor does the Alpha have any feelings for her. I know everything behind it, and that is enough for us to work with. I cannot tell you more than that for your own good."
"What if something goes wrong?" I asked her.
"You better not let anything go wrong. You don't have any choice."
I watched her walk out of the room wondering what exactly she wanted with Aria
What is it she did not want me to know and why she wants to kill Aria's baby
I would have liked to do a background study myself, but I did not want to bother myself with all of it
Maybe it was better I didn't know. At the end of the day, I wouldn't be able to do anything with it either
I had no say in this matter. Natasha has never asked anything of me before
The first had to be this. If I had my way, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with it. But since I didn't, I have to find a way to get through with it.
