Chapter 57 Chapter 57
Chapter 57
\- Jason -
I found myself loving Aria's company more often
It was the way she spoke, the way she carried herself and brought so much life along with it that kept catching me
I was sure I had not noticed anything like it before now
It made me want to spend more time with her even if it was to listen to her speak
I was working on some paperwork in my study when a soft knock landed on the door
"Come in," I said, expecting Alexei or Natasha
But when the person knocking came in, I immediately knew who it was
I was beginning to get so used to that scent, even anticipating it
"Aria," I called her name without looking back, with a small smile on my face as she approached the table
"How did you know it was me?" She asked with an amused chuckle.
"I am slowly getting used to you," I told her. "The way you walk and all."
"Isn't that amazing?" She said, now standing in front of me. "Or you are just taking advantage of your sixth sense. I know it's one thing you possess."
I looked up at her, the smile slightly widening when my eyes rested on her softly radiating face
"Is it just me, or do you keep glowing every day?" I asked and she giggled, shyly covering her mouth with her palm. "Could it be because of the pregnancy?"
"I was told by the older woman that pregnancy can make you change a lot," she said. "The first trimester especially can be so sickening with the nausea and tiredness."
"But look at you, carrying it so gracefully," I said and she smiled.
"I just found out how to make it easier."
After she said that, there was silence for a while. I didn't know what to say to her anymore. I was just lost watching her.
"Yeah, I came here because I noticed you have spent almost all day in here," she finally broke the silence and I snapped out of it
"Yes that is true," I said, looking at the sheet on the table. "I have to do some research on pack matters before tomorrow."
I sighed deeply.
"Oh," she mouthed. "You still need to eat something. Food is essential for your brain to function."
"I am not quite hungry," I shook my head.
"You need to eat alpha," she said persuasively.
"I don't think I need that kind of distraction right now, Aria," I took a deep breath. "Food can wait till I can crack this."
"You'd be able to crack it after eating. That's what you need right now. Some energy for your brain to think well," she pushed.
"You don't understand," I also insisted. "I usually don't eat..."
"I demand that you do," she interrupted me with a little thumping of the feet.
I shifted back lightly, raising a brow at her.
"Sorry alpha," she muttered. "I shouldn't have... you're the alpha, and I mean no disrespect, but even the alpha needs to eat."
I stared at her. In that moment she looked so much like Elena.
My late wife would persuade me angrily to eat especially when I was locked in my study
She would nag and push and only when I had eaten, would she let me rest
I enjoyed it even though I acted like she was bothering me
I would intentionally act like I didn't want to eat to see her throw those tantrums
Ever since Elena died I had to force myself to eat my meals because no one did it for me as she did
I mean, sometimes, Alexei and Natasha would try to get me to eat something
But Elena did not only talk or persuade, but she'd threatened and blackmailed me
"What did you make?" I asked Aria and her eyes lit up with happiness.
"You'd like it," she said. "I'll go bring it for you."
She headed for the door with tiny and cute runs, returned shortly after with a tray of steaming food
The aroma hit my nose immediately when she opened it. My stomach rumbled, outrightly betraying me
She raised a brow at me
"There, I knew it!" She said accusingly. "Acting all tough. I knew you were hungry..."
My cheeks felt hot with embarrassment.
She carefully moved the scroll and dished the food.
Did I mention Aria is a very good cook? Her food was incredibly amazing
"So ungrateful," I heard her mutter and looked up. Her hands were crossed over her chest and her nose scrunched up
"Huh?" I said with a mouthful.
"You don't like the food?" She asked
"Clearly I am enjoying it," I replied in confusion.
"You know what, I'll just leave you to it," she said as she casually picked up the sheet and pen and rested on the table.
I took my time, concentrating fully on ravaging the meal that I almost forgot Aria was there while I ate
She also focused on my sheet, scribbling down what I could not see
Soon I was done with the food. I thanked her and she smiled, turning to look at me.
"You don't have to thank me," she said. "I am only doing my duty as your wife."
She picked the tray and dropped the sheet back on the table.
My eyes rested on it and they widened slightly.
"You did this?" I asked. She had completed a study I was struggling with earlier.
I kept trying, but the answers were not coming to me. She solved it in a few minutes
"Yeah," she shrugged.
"Wow," I muttered. I was impressed. "This is brilliant Aria."
"Thank you."
While I was still in bewilderment, she made to leave but I stopped her, touching her arm instinctively
"Will you come back here again?" I asked and she was quiet for a while. I just loved to spend some time with her
"I have to go to the hospital," she told me. "I have an appointment with Doctor Kira today."
I thought about that for a moment.
"Well I should come with you then," I said without really thinking it through
"Are you sure?" She asked uncertainly. "You don't have to. I can take care of myself."
"You play the wife role so well. I should reciprocate. I will come with you."
