Chapter 43

\- Natasha -

There was a dense tension on the table as every eye fell on Aria with disbelief

"I did not do it, I swear by the gods," Aria kept saying. By now, Lord Greham and his wife were looking at her with disgust

My eyes met the maid's and I nodded at her approvingly

Everything is going as planned. There is no way I am going to let Aria get past this

And to think the Lord was already giving his approval of them being together

This will break the camel's back. Whatever this was between Jason and Aria will end today

As long as Lord Greham and his wife disapprove of her, I know Jason will not have any choice but to do away with her and find other ways to deal with Marcus

Aria desperately walked towards Jason and held his hands

"I did not do this, I promise you," she said but Jason did not look at her with any empathy but rather, regret and disappointment

"You don't believe me?" Her face fell when she saw the look in his eyes. "But there is no way to find out if I did this. There's no proof. Why am I being condemned without any evidence?"

"She's right," I stepped forward. "There is no evidence about her doing this. There is only one way to find out. And that is by checking everyone here to be sure. We cannot put this on her when we've not seen her with it."

They looked round, each contemplating. Aria looked at me with a disturbed look on her face. It seems she must have realised there was no escaping for her with this

I smiled within me. There was definitely no way out

"We should do that," Lady Marie agreed. "But how can we go around checking every bag. I don't want any waste of time in finding my most precious jewels."

"And that is why we will start the accused," Lord Greham put in. "Go to her suite at once and check everything, every bag."

"Luna, do you mind?" I turned to look at Aria with the mockery only she can see.

"Of course I don't," she replied with some confidence. "I am telling you I did not take it. I am not a thief."

"Very well then, we shall find out," Lady Marie said, and we all headed towards the quarters that were given to her.

I looked at the maid one more time to confirm she's done everything as planned and she gave me an assuring look

Good. Aria does not know it but she is about to fall right into my trap

The search began and even though Jason was calm through it, I could easily see he was hoping the Jewels were not found in there

It's not because he cares about her I know, but his reputation.

What will be said, such dishonour that he had presented a woman like that to a man he and the entire pack and regions respected

I waited for the box to be brought out, with the evidence of Aria's theft, but they were almost rounding up the search and did not find anything

I began to worry.

If the maid had snuck in the box here, it should have been found already

"My Lord, I don't think there is anything here," one of the guards said.

"Are you sure? Search every nook and cranny. Bring out everything," Lord Greham said

But alas, the whole room was turned upside down and there was nothing

What is going on?

"There is nothing here," the lady muttered

"I told you all, I did not do it," Aria said, her confidence rising

The looks on their faces began to falter and were replaced with a sorry one

This cannot be happening. Aria cannot get away this time. No, this was the perfect time to ruin her.

"The maid who reported this should be called upon," I hurriedly said.

Not because I wanted them to punish her but because I believed she was in a better position to find where it was since she was the one who hid it in here

I just did not want to believe my plans had failed even after seeing that the whole room had been searched

It has to be here somewhere

They hesitated for a while and eventually agreed to get the maid

It seems even she was not expecting that they had not found the box from the look on her face

"Go on, look for the box since you were the one who said you thought the Luna was the thief," I said impatiently when she just stood there looking

She began searching and after about five minutes she was still searching, it was at that time that I knew everything had gone down

"Stop!" Jason ordered with a hard look on his face. "What is the meaning of this? My wife did not take any boxes. How much more do you all want to embarrass her before you let it be?"

"Jason dear," Marie's shrill voice had gone down. "I am not trying to say your wife is a thief or anyone you have brought. I think there must have been a misunderstanding somewhere but my box has still not been found and the maid..."

She stopped there not knowing what to say anymore. The box is not in Aria's room as the maid had claimed

While I still wondered what exactly must have happened, the maid kept looking down, avoiding my eyes

She had assured me everything went as planned.

"It's fine my lady," Aria stepped forward. "We will have to find your box. Besides, we just checked one room and there are many more visitors. There's me, Natasha and Alexei. We should check everywhere as agreed."

I shot my head up and caught Aria's eyes, with one more thing that looked suspicious, a smile at the corner of her lips, directed at me.

What is she doing?
