Chapter 42 Chapter 42
Chapter 42
\- Jason -
Lord Greham was pleased about me bringing Aria to see him
He has been a family friend for forever and has been a loyal one, supporting and fighting for my parents and the pack
In their absence, he was like a father figure for me
He had felt sorry for me when Elena died and tried convincing me to get another woman after some years but I wouldn't budge
So when he heard about new wi...about Aria, he kept pressing
Well Aria was my wife, for the benefit of the people and any other persons that cared
But to me there was only one wife, one mate
And that woman is Elena
She is the only one my heart cares about
I was still kind to Aria despite that the only thing that brought us together was revenge on Marcus and Sophie
While we are still together, I needed her to know and feel her worth
And I was glad that she was gradualism getting it
Her sudden glow was maintained and I smiled when the Lord commented on it
"She looks beautiful," he said. "It is good you have finally found someone to settle with. When I was told I almost couldn't believe it. It was so unlikely that you'd ever let go of Elena."
Aria looked at me with uncertainty.
I could tell she was wondering as he kept bringing you my late wife. But Lord Gresham is not just anyone to me and he could talk about certain things to my face
"Jason dear, you should learn how to get accessories for your wife," his wife, Lady Marie chipped in. "She looks okay but can do better. I should teach you how to take care of a woman."
"Done listen to her," her husband cut in. "My wife and her desires for such things is not something to emulate. I have spent a lot of fortune getting her those. If you don't want to go bankrupt, please don't listen to her."
Lord Greham must be the only one at the table who couldn't tell his wife was actually trying to change the conversation.
"My dear," he turned to Aria as if trying to recall her name
"Aria, my Lord," she helped out softly.
"Yes dear. You should tell me how you were able to get the Alpha to love you. He's got a tough heart and I'm a little curious. How did you meet? How did it happen?"
Aria had a small smile plastered on her face but I could read the unease under it
"Let it be, you are making the young lady uncomfortable," Lady Marie finally told her husband directly then she turned to us. "Please don't mind my husband. He likes to talk about things that are none of his business."
"None of my business?" Lord Greham sounded offended. "Why, Jason is my boy and his life is my business. Or is he now too great and powerful for me?"
"Of course not my Lord," I answered him calmly. "You are by yourself a very great man too. I cannot overlook you no matter what or who I become."
And then he went on and on to talk about his great feats. The battles he's won, his empires, the city's he had conquered and the armies he had led
The stories we've heard all our lives.
I mean, who doesn't know the great Lord?
Yet we get the privilege to hear the stories right from his lips over and over again.
What a time to have ears
Everyone at the table sat quietly, eating and listening to him and none daring to show how bored they were
Natasha and Alexei have been with me long enough to have followed me through listening to the Lord tell his stories
Except for Aria. And we all listened.
A maid walked up to Lady Marie and whispered something into her ears
I wouldn't have cared if course, except I saw her expression altering deeply, suggesting something was wrong
Her husband noticed too. Everyone did
"Dear what is the matter now?"
"The maid just told me my safe was broken into and my box of expensive jewelleries has been taken!" She shrieked. "That box is worth what can buy an entire pack!"
"That is not possible!" Greham's face was no longer smiling. "No one would dare."
"It's true my Lord," the maid affirmed. "I couldn't believe it myself either. But the safe was really broken into."
"This has never happened before," the Lord jumped to his feet and I stood up as well. "Jason, I am so sorry you have to witness this but I will have to handle it right away. This is an abomination. It has never been heard of in my palace."
"It should not be hard to tell since we have a new guests in our midst," Lady Marie said and I shot my head towards her
"What do you mean my lady?"
I followed her angry eyes decorated with disgust and aimed at Aria who was looking around in confusion
I looked from her to Aria, trying to understand what was happening.
"The maid told me that they had seen Aria lurking around earlier and it is after this that my things got missed," she said and Aria jumped to her feet, eyes opened with fright
"No please my lady, I could never," she lamented
"But is this not true? That you were seen walking around like a lost sheep just before we all gathered at the table?"
"That is true but I was not..."
"Enough!" Lord Greham's sharp voice rang across the room. Then he looked at me. "Alpha Jason, what is the meaning of this insolence? Why would you bring such dishonour to my house?"
I did not know what to do or say. Things just escalated quickly and I was beginning to hope I did not make a very big mistake with Aria
Gosh, there has to be a very good explanation for this.
