Chapter 81 - The Luna He Rejected
Everything was ready now. Silvia had spread the word, and it was known everywhere in the pack that I was going to fight for my Luna Queen position. Some omegas said that they wanted to fight me as well, but it wouldn’t matter if Sophia won as she was an Alpha daughter, and they could never beat her. I guess that what Silvia told me was true. Once I beat Sophia, no one would come forward to fight.
The fight was going to happen at eight. We had everything ready, the arena was decorated for the occasion and Sophia was provided with everything that she needed to have a proper rest for the fight. Her father was staying in a cabin that was sometimes used when there were too many guests to accommodate them in the pack house, and from what I heard he had been gloating that soon he would be Kaid’s father-in-law.
“In his dreams.” Yeah, but let him have his moment. The higher they are, the harder they fall.
I was preparing myself for the challenge. I chose a black bodice that gave me the freedom to move while it was still comfortable. I paired it with some leggings and sneakers. It wasn’t something you would wear to a fashion show, but it was perfect for battle.
Also, the bodice was done by Esmeralda, with a special fabric that didn’t break when you transformed into your wolf. Even if I was explaining to everyone that I had a wolf and that she was rare, I didn’t want to reveal that I possessed magic. I still had to figure out how much of a witch I was.
As I was dressing myself, I heard Kaid opening the door. He has a lot of work to do with the challenge, and also what had been waiting for him since we returned.
I turned around to look at him. He looked both exhausted and worried. I knew that he didn’t want me to participate in this, but it was something that I had to do.
“Ivy love, come sit with me.” He patted the spot next to him on the bed. I sat and put my head on his shoulder, he started caressing me. “I know why you want to do this, and I know that you won’t back down. Just be careful, please.” He kissed the top of my head.
I felt a tear leaving my eyes. I didn’t consider how much this was affecting him, and now I could see. It was time to end this, so Sophia left us alone. The only thing left then would be the trials, but that was something that the council had to decide.
“I promise you, I won’t get hurt. Trust me.” I said while I smiled at him. He approached me slowly and kissed me. It was soft and slow, but he poured all his love for me into that kiss.
“I love you.” He said, and my heart fluttered once again.
“I love you too.” We stared at each other, waiting. Soon someone was going to come to tell us that we should go to the arena, and, as predicted, Andrew came.
Kaid took my hand, and we walked to the arena. The number of people inside was huge as I could hear all of them talking from a long distance. Everything was illuminated to give the perfect show. People were gossiping about who they thought was going to win the match. Of course, most of the comments weren’t in my favor.
When Kaid and I entered the arena, we saw that Sophia was already there. She was wearing a pink tracksuit that looked almost like a second skin. It looked like it was made of leather, but if that was the case it wouldn’t be too comfortable.
It was more like a costume than something that should be worn in a duel, but that is what she went for. She was waving her hair back and forth as she didn’t even style it in a ponytail or a braid like I had.
“Does she think that she is going to a runway?” I have no idea Athena. Let’s see if she changes her mind. If not, I already warned her at the responsibility lies on her.
Kaid gave me a kiss in front of everyone. It was just a peck, but Sophia started gagging. I only rolled my eyes at her. I couldn’t care less. Then Andrew gave him a microphone, so he could start with the introductions.
“Hello everyone. I want to thank you all for coming. Sophia has challenged my fated mate, Ivy, for her Luna Queen position, as she believes that she is a better fit for me. I would like to mention that I’m in love with my mate, and I am against this challenge, but Ivy was the one to accept it as she wanted to show you all her true potential.” He looked at me to tell me that it was time for me to explain what he meant. After that, Sophia would have her chance to back down. If she doesn’t, she knows what is coming for her.
I approached Kaid, and he gave me the microphone. I have to admit that I was anxious. I’ve never spoken to that many people before.
“Good evening everyone. Some of you have met me, others don’t even know who I am. But for the ones that do know me and think of me as someone weak with no wolf, I’m here to tell you that it is not true. When Kaif and I found each other, I was told that I was special. The problem was that someone was after me, so I had to hide. Fortunately, that person has already been dealt with, so I no longer have to hide my true self. I’m the reincarnation of the Lycans, and I’m sorry if any of you feel deceived. I did lie to you, and for that I apologize.” I gave the microphone back to Kaid, he gave me in return a loving smile. With that, we ensured that people knew who I really was. No more games. No more hiding.
“After what Ivy just told us, I want to give Sophia the chance to decide if she wants to continue with the challenge or not.” Sophia looked surprised, but she quickly hid it and tried to look confident as before, but I knew that she was scared.
“I can fight her, special wolf or not, she is not suited to be Queen, I am.” She touched Kaid’s arm. Of course, he moved it before she could cling to it, but still, that made Athena mad.
“We gave her the chance. Now destroy the bitch.” Gladly Athena.
“The challenge continues then. I’m going to explain the rules to everyone. Now that Ivy has revealed that she possesses a wolf, you can fight in wolf form. You cannot use any external equipment, the fight is body to body, no knives, guns, silver or anything like that is admitted. It can either be until death or until one of the parties decides to forfeit. Is everything understood?”
“Yes.” Sophia and I said in unison. Kaid nodded and turned around to leave the arena. He didn’t give me a kiss this time as he couldn’t show much affection before the duel.
Sophia and I positioned ourselves and waited until the signal was given. My heart bested loudly with anticipation. I was counting the minutes until I could show her and take out the smug in her face. And then we heard it, the siren that indicated the beginning of the fight.
Sophia quickly tried to attack me, as she lunged at me with all her speed. I dodged it and tried to kick her on the side, but she covered that area and my punch didn’t affect her much. We were face to face once again as I waited for her next move.
“So you are just going to dodge once again?” She tried to mock me. She knew she couldn’t win me with brute force, so she was trying to provoque me to make me lose my temper.
“No, contrary to you, I did have training, so I know not to precipitate myself.” She growled at me, and once again tried to reach me.
This time she extended her claws and tried to get to my neck. I caught her hand and threw her over to her side. She hit the dirt, but got up quickly, it was clear that she was mad, and I knew that she was close to shifting.
We started surrounding each other. Every time she tried to lunge at me to hit me, I dodged, and she fell to the ground. Her once pink outfit was now brown from the dirt. She was now shaking with anger, and I could hear the screams from her father to defeat me once and for all.
She ran towards me and jumped just before she got to me. She shifted in midair. I tried to cover myself, but she gashed me, making a lot of blood come from my wound. I looked at her, and she looked satisfied, like she had inflicted a lot of damage, but was surprised when I didn't scream from the pain or even looked hurt at all. I didn't have anything to cover my wound, but soon enough it closed. I had rapid healing, but even I was amazed. It healed faster than ever.
"The power of the mate bond." Indeed, Athena. We are stronger than ever. Let's show her what we got.
I shifted into Athena, in all her glory. Sophia's wolf was smaller than we were, and she knew it. She had lost. Athena lunched towards her at full speed. She didn't even see us. She bit her neck, making Sophia's wolf howl in pain.
She tried to turn and bite me back, but I kicked her with my hind paws. Then Athena bit her hard once again, braking her paw. She now had one less extremity to fight me, and I had to admire her resilience to not give up. She knew she had lost, but she still continued to fight.
I turned back to give her the chance to forfeit, and conserve her life.
"I will give you the chance to leave the challenge. You can't win, Sophia." She snarled at me and lunged once again, but it was over. I was done with her. I extended my claw and crashed her throat.
She fell onto the ground, lifeless. Everyone was silent, and I could only think. It was finally over.
