Chapter 46 Tension in the Living Room

Chapter 46 Tension in the Living Room
Gerald steadied Jennifer so she wouldn't fall again. Once Jennifer was standing firmly, Gerald released his embrace, looked at Jennifer, and said.

"Jenny, hmm, you two stay inside, don't leave the room. I'll only be a moment, I'll be right back! For breakfast together, okay?" Gerald exclaimed with a tense expression.

Jennifer was about to ask a question, but before long, John appeared, handing Alex over.

"Sorry to disturb you, Miss... I mean, Mrs Ross. I was going to take Alex for a swim and a bath, but..." John felt bad for disturbing Jennifer and Gerald.

"No need, Mr Martin. I'll bathe Alex. We can play for a while." Jennifer smiled.

"But, by the way, what did you mean by 'the elders'? Who are they?" Jennifer, curious, finally asked.

"They..." John was about to answer, but was interrupted by Gerald's shout.

"John!!! Come on, what are you doing there? Hurry up! Don't keep them waiting!" Gerald shouted, who had left the room but reappeared at the door.

"Sorry, Mrs Ross... we have to go!" John said awkwardly.

Jennifer smiled, "Go ahead!"

Gerald looked at Jennifer and Alex alternately, reiterating his words, "Don't leave this room! Wait for me inside for a moment, okay? Alex, take care of your mummy! I won't be long!"

"Okay, Daddy!" Alex replied loudly. Jennifer just nodded while playing with Alex's hair.

Not long after, they left. Gerald locked Alex's room door from the outside, and Jennifer frowned.

'Why did he lock the door? Who exactly came? What do they want? It's so intriguing!' Jennifer exclaimed in her heart.

"Mummy! Come on! Daddy said we have to wait here, so there's no need to be so curious! Remember, someone said curiosity can kill you!" said Alex, who could indeed read his mother's mind.

Jennifer turned her head, "You! How many times have I told you not to read my mind! Huh! Where did you get that phrase, huh? It's not curiosity that will kill me, but... I will kill you because you're tickling me!" Jennifer began to tickle Alex's waist playfully.

Alex ran away from his mother in his large bedroom until he was finally caught, and they fell onto the soft bed.

"Okay! Enough joking around! How about we take a bath now? After that, I'll make you breakfast!" Jennifer offered to help Alex get up from the bed after they had joked around for a while.

"Okay, Mummy!"

Jennifer led Alex to the bathroom located on the right side of the room.

While Alex and Jennifer were happily engaged in their activities, Gerald and John walked towards the main living room, their faces tense.

"What are they doing here, John? And how did they know about this place? Who told them about this place?" Gerald put his hands in his trouser pockets, trying to contain his irritation.

"Sorry, Alpha Gerald, it seems that they knew about it before the news spread. And about this place... have you forgotten, Alpha? During the last attack, we brought them here, didn't we? That's how they know about this place!" John tried to explain.

Gerald nodded, "You're right! I even forgot about that incident! So what do they want here? And remind me to buy another penthouse unit that they don't know about! I don't want them disturbing my peace!"

"Alright, Alpha Gerald. As for why they're here, I don't know, Alpha, but I think... it's related to the news report! About Luna Jenny and your pups, Alex," John bowed his head.

Gerald paused for a moment, frowning, "What are they worried about, huh? Isn't that my personal business? Why do they always want to interfere?"

John bowed his head even lower because of Alpha Gerald's frightening gaze.

"They think that whatever happens to you and the Blackstone pack is their business too, Alpha!" John paused for a moment, seeing Alpha Gerald's increasingly unpleasant reaction. John calmed him down again.

"But that's just my guess, Alpha! Who knows, maybe they came here for a different reason! We'd better go see them!" John said again.

"You're right! Let's go!"

John breathed a sigh of relief as he walked behind Gerald.

Before long, they arrived in a vast living room with soft grey sofas arranged in a U-shape, a large television in front of them, and an electric fireplace beneath. Black and grey colours dominated the room, but it did not feel scary; instead, it felt luxurious and modern. It was because the wall where the television was placed was made of abstract textured granite, as was the floor. It was complete with round lamps above it, which gave it a modern feel.

At the far right end, four older men, all middle-aged, were waiting.

They stood up and bowed again when Alpha Gerald appeared.

"Sit down! What brings you here? It's not like you to visit me here!" said Alpha Gerald, choosing to sit on the left side facing them.

Gerald took out a cigarette and lit it.

One of the elders replied, "Your news has spread far and wide, Alpha Gerald. Shouldn't you give us an explanation? About this?"

Alpha Gerald frowned. 'How did they find out? It's impossible! They live in the forest, far from civilization. How did they find out? Someone must have told them! But who?'

Alpha Gerald smiled before blowing cigarette smoke into the air, trying to calm himself down.

"What news are you referring to? And who told you? Haven't you spent most of your time in the forest, far from the crowds and modern conveniences? Do you have so much free time now that you spend it watching the news?"

"Alpha Gerald! Watch your words! After all, you still have to respect us. We maintain balance in the forest and educate new wolfies or treat them if they are injured and need our help! Don't you forget that!" an elder stood up and spoke loudly with an aura of anger.

Gerald stubbed out his cigarette in an ashtray in the middle of the sofa. Meanwhile, Beta John remained by his side, standing next to Alpha Gerald.

"Sit down! Why are you getting so worked up? I was just asking, did I do something wrong? Regarding treatment, don't forget... I have placed several advanced doctors in my large house, specifically to care for injured pack members! I even built a mini hospital for them! So you could say they hardly ever come to you, right? Don't forget I'm still the Alpha of Blackstone! Don't make me lose my patience and stop all that funding, which is no small amount, just for you! So, you are the ones who should respect me!" Alpha Gerald exclaimed, growing increasingly annoyed.

The man was a little upset and restless, then said, "Forgive my words earlier, Alpha!"

Alpha Gerald nodded slowly, "Sit down! So what do you want and what do you actually know now?"

The elder sat back down, another elder calmed him down, and another spoke up.

"We just want to know, is that really Luna Jenny? Your wife? And who is
the child you were carrying yesterday? Is he your pup?" asked one of the elders.

"They..."
