Chapter 43

As we stood in front of Carolina's cell, Shane's emotions began to boil over. I could feel them pulsating through our bond. Normally I would have done something to calm him down, but honestly, I was pissed too.

She stood there glaring at him with her arms crossed across her chest. It was as if she was trying to intimidate us with just her look… not working… Shane let go of my hand and hit the cell door startling his mother. Neither of us was expecting him to do that.

"Mother you have about 2 more seconds to start talking before I become your judge and jury and find you guilty of treason and sentence you to death.." Shane warned.

Carolina’s eyes locked with shanes. Her eyes shifted letting the both of us know that her wolf was ready and waiting. I took this opportunity to try and bring the heat in the room down a notch and stepped in front of Shane, pausing him from opening the cell with the result of a fight right here.

"Carolina, why are you acting like this? Is Shane not your son? Did you not give birth to him? You are in no way acting like a Luna." I asked.

Carolina’s face contorted, showing utter disgust. What could make a mother feel hatred for her own son? What could Shane have possibly done to make her feel this way?

And be so horrible to change her love to disgust? What happened when Shane was a child. ? Nothing a child could do to a grown-ass woman should have caused this to happen.

"You know ‘Princess” your right. It is about time Shane hears exactly why I am the way that I am towards him. And since you are his mate… You should know too." Carolina said as if she were throwing daggers at us. Also if I am being honest, I hate the fact that she called me princess.

"Everything was great after I had Shane. His father and I were highly respected and loved by all of our pack members. Growing up, Shane never wanted for anything. He always got what he wanted. As Shane got older he had his parties and fair share of girlfriends. Then it started happening. He was getting close to coming of age and finding his wolf. With his wolf also came the Alpha ceremony where his father handed down the Alpha title." She added.

"That is what is supposed to happen when you are high-ranking wolves who have the means and decide to have pups is it not?" Shane said adding insult to injury. Carolina completely ignored what Shane had asked her and continued talking.

"During that time I had a witch friend of mine, Josey. She was powerful and beautiful. I had wanted to know what our future held and Josey decided to do a future visual with me. Normally this is not done without payment. But because we were friends she was happy to allow me to see what was to come for us." She continued.

"Where is Josey now?" I questioned.

Again Carolina was not answering our questions. I believe she just wanted to hear herself talk about her reasoning for hating her son… which is beyond sad.

"The outlook that I saw was rather meek. It showed that once Shane found his fated mate that he was choosing her over anything and everyone. And that was not what I wanted. So we ended up making the pack as secluded as we could. We were already a half hour if not more from any town and that would make it harder for Shane to find his mate. That was also when I had spoken to Claudia’s parents about them being chosen mates. This was my way of altering the future for our pack." Carolina said.

"Mother!! How could you have done this so long ago?? My mate is my choice! No matter what you would have ever done I would have always chosen Sierra! " Shane shouted. Again there was not even a flinch from Carolina… She really must love to hear herself talk…

"So for a while, I thought that everything was fine and I had everything under control. But that all changed the night before his alpha ceremony. I am not sure ‘Princess’ if he told you or not but our pack burned down to the ground." She kept talking like we were not even there.

"Yes, he did tell me that," I answered.

"Well did he tell you how it happened?" She asked.

I looked over at Shane who was looking at me pleading for me to not listen to her. But now I wanted to know the cause of the pack being burnt down.

"No, he didn't tell me how it happened." I answered her again.

"Shane and I got into a huge argument. I wanted him and Claudia to be mates and he kept fighting that he wanted his fated mate. He was never going to accept her as his chosen mate." She started to say.

"That is a lie!" Shane roared.

"Well, Shane then do tell me what happened then.." She said her eyes filled with tears and hate.

"You and I got into an argument because I didn't want to keep you as the head Luna. YOU never wanted to give you your position. And when I refused and told you that I wanted my fated mate to be the Luna and not you, you became Irate." He stated matter of factly.

Who could have set the fires, and destroyed a whole pack? I wondered. If it wasn't Shane then who could it have been? How could she blame their own son without full proof?

"Alright let's go with your way that this happened then. So after this happened... Shane decided that the only way for him to be able to have his own mate as Luna was to burn our pack house to the ground. By the time the fires were put out there was nothing left. All the pack houses were gone and the whole pack's lives were ruined. All of the memories, photos, clothes, furniture… everything was gone. And the only thing that little bastard had to say was that he was going to build his own pack somewhere else. I believed no one would move to his pack. I was wrong. He must have told them something or promised them things to get them to go. Even his father left. Leaving me to either fend for myself or move with them. I refused. I had our pack rebuilt and then his father came back. Some of our pack also returned but not all of them. We lost many to him. And because Shane accepted the title and moved, we were no longer the Alpha and Luna, we were now addressed as the former Alpha and Luna. " Carolina explained.

"Mother I never burned our pack down. Yes, it did burn, but it was not because of my hand." Shane told her.

"Shut the fuck up… it was because of you! Or why would you have not helped to rebuild our lives... " She hissed.

"Because your life was what you wanted me to conform to. I wanted my own life and I took that tragic opportunity to build my own life." Shane tried to reason with her.

"LIAR!" She shouted back at Shane. They both love to shout that is for sure.

"Carolina, is it possible someone else could have started those fires?" I asked trying to defuse the situation a bit.

"Not a chance…" She must be damn sure it was Shane. The 3 of us stayed in silence for quite some time before Shane spoke up again.

"Alright mother now that we have heard your sob story…"

"Oh, there is more.." She assured him.

"Maybe another time. But right now all I want to know is how you know how you knew about Sierra and everything that she has going on.."

"That witch Josey told me that she was not of only wolf decent. That she was also a royal pixie... That was when I really lost it! I would never accept her as a Luna, and as a matter of fact, I would never accept any pups of hers because they would all be half breeds…"

Via almost got her wish as my eyes shifted and I charged the cell. Luckily Shane grabbed me before I could think rationally. I knew that she would get hers soon enough. But that was not the only thing that happened. I started to feel more power than I had ever felt before. Something that scared me.

"So this whole fuckery is because of you?" I said through gritted teeth.

"Yeah! I knew about the ring that your mother had and that is why I got my brother involved. I knew that if he could get it you being my son's mate would end. He would then not have a choice but to choose a mate. A full-blooded wolf.." She agreed to happily.

"You bitch.. I promise you that if we have pups you will never get to see them.. And I will make damn sure you will never see the light of day again.." I shouted. I was getting all worked up... A white aura started to engulf me.

What the hell is happening to me? Is this whole Pixie thing making me feel this way? Could Carolina be the one that triggered this? I was lost and needed to link Via to see if she had any answers for me.

"Via what is going on?!?!?"

"Your power is starting to activate. You need to get away from her before it is uncontrollable. You need to learn your powers before you unleash something you can't take back.." Via answered.

"What do I do?"

"You need to leave the dungeon right now... Go outside and take a few deep breaths. Nature is your happy place. You need to go and relax." She warned.

She's right. But how.. And who will teach me…
