Chapter 43—The Date
It was the last thing he had, and this he had used to make tonight memorable for her.
“You said I was to take you out on a date if I was to date you,” Elvin said, leading Eve to the black limousine whose door, a smartly dressed driver held open, and the stars of the night gleamed on the body.
This was more than Eve had, and more than the men in her past had done for her. But what thrilled her was Elvin’s sacrifice to make her feel the lady tonight. Her legs still ached mildly from the intense pleasure of their lovemaking, and although she wanted to regain her strength inside, she had agreed to this. Only she hadn’t expected it to be this grand coming from someone like Elvin.
“Ladies first,” Elvin said with a grin as they reached the car, and Eve smiled, curtly gave a single nod to acknowledge the driver, then she went in.
She made herself comfortable, and Elvin came in after her. The driver closed the door, and when they heard him get into the driver’s side, not long, the limousine moved off.
Eve knew her guards would be following the limousine, and knowing they had hacked Elvin’s phone, they were probably at their destination already.
It was a smooth evening ride through Tan Height, and within the comfort of the limousine, Elvin thrilled Eve with a glass of champagne, and they enjoyed the coolness of the air-conditioner. They enjoyed the scenic view of the city and talked happily together till they arrived at The Moment, which was a grand restaurant belonging to Eve’s family.
Amazing. The idea he had to bring her here, knowing this one was one of the most expensive restaurants in the city.
The driver stepped down, moved around the car, opened the back door, and held it open for them. Elvin stepped out and buttoned his suit jacket, and Eve stepped out in her glam red evening gown that had people staring. Elvin had made a fine pick. Tonight, he was out to please her.
Two men who had two ladies on their sides walked up to Elvin and Eve, and Eve knew these were former work colleagues of Elvin’s company, now owned by her.
“Elvin!”
“Herman! Chris!” Elvin said, looking at both men, and briskly looked at the ladies on their sides, and flashed them his charming smiles. “What are you two doing here?”
“We should be asking you that,” Chris said with the air of pride around him, “seeing you never made much cash like us.”
Eve, that instance didn’t like Chris.
“And who is the beautiful lady with you?” Herman asked.
Elvin, still reeling from the impact of what Chris had said to him, briskly recovered and with a less enthusiastic tone, said, “Guys, this is my girlfriend, Eve, and Eve, these are my superiors at my former place of work.”
Eve extended her hands to shake both men. “Former work colleagues would suffice.” She smiled. “They are no longer your superiors.”
And that was how Eve began making Elvin’s own evening.
Herman introduced their companions as Meredith Molina, and Kate Mills. Elvin and Eve greeted them.
“Can we share a table?” Herman asked. “It’s been a while. We would very much like to catch up.”
Elvin looked at Eve who returned his gaze, and he shook his head. “No. I took her out today to give her a good time. Forgive me, gentlemen.”
“More like you can’t handle the bills alone,” Chris said.
And that was the last straw for Eve. Luckily, they hadn’t passed through security. She would keep them out tonight.
“And you both have a reservation at The Moment?” Eve asked.
“Of course, lady,” Chris said.
The arrogance. She would crush it. “Well, it’s not always about securing a reservation,” she said. “It’s about getting in.”
Chris laughed. “Then lead the way.”
Chris probably expected the bouncers at the door not to let them in. Eve would prove him wrong.
As Elvin and Eve walked up to the entrance beside the line of people waiting to get in, the nine bouncers posted at the entrance bowed, and made way for them to go in. Eve didn’t need to whisper. They very well knew and understood what had transpired outside.
Chris and Herman got to the entrance with Meredith and Kate holding their hands, but the bouncers didn’t let them in.
Elvin and Eve waited, and they heard Chris say with confidence, “We have a reservation—”
But one of the bouncers, not even looking at his list, said, “Your name isn’t on the list.”
Chris wore a slightly worried expression. “But, I paid for the reservation this afternoon. I was assured that—”
“Your name isn’t on the list.”
“Could you at least check?” Herman said, and Eve felt for him. The bad company he was with had cost him the grandeur of a little bit of heaven tonight.
The bouncer shook his head. Both men were embarrassed that the guards had to move them out of the line for others to come in.
Eve said audibly enough for them to hear, “I’m sorry. Maybe, Elvin would have taken you guys on your request if you had secured yourself a reservation.” She sent them a mocking smile, and she noted Elvin’s grin as they made their way further in.
“That was amazing,” Elvin said. “What did you do, and what just happened?”
“I thought you knew. Well, I was teaching that Chris fellow what happens when he messes with people like you,” Eve said, and smiled at a waiter who then directed them to their table.
“People like me? The bouncers at the door, they didn’t even check to see if we had a reservation. They just bowed and—”
“Maybe, they thought you to be someone you’re not,” Eve said and laughed. “You should be happy.”
They sat down, and Elvin looked unsure.
Eve grinned. “What is it? Scared that they would recognize who you are and tell you to get out?”
