To close a portal

To close a portal
Due to the severity of the situation, the Swallow house was moved to the top of the priority list. Two days later we were at the house with a local priest that was willing to work with us. When we pulled up to the house we could feel the evil leaking out of it. The family was waiting for us in the formal sitting room. It was a pleasant room full of vibrant reds and browns. Formal yet still comfortable chairs were strategically placed to facilitate easy conversations.  The glass coffee table had live mums in a barrel planter. Everyone but Jesse looked at me when I jumped away from it. The norms couldn’t see the ghoulish face looking at us from under the glass. It was a smallish yet definitely demonic face. The red eyes with slits for pupils was a dead giveaway. The rest of it’s face had the look of meat left in the sun: gray, leathery and decomposing. Even though Jesse couldn’t see the face, its aura would tell him all he needed to know. Satisfied it had scared me, it gave a cruel giggle before joining with the shadows to vanish.

Us gifted folks consulted each other then told the non-gifted to clear out. This was going to get ugly, no need to put the family in harm’s way. We allowed Robbie to hang back to document things. Diligently we walked the three thousand square feet of the house. The priest said his commands to leave and threw holy water. We read hymns while also throwing holy water and smudging with sage. One can never have too much holy water. As expected, the utility area in the garage was a portal. Jesse and I did our thing to seal it. While chanting a smudging, growling from the walls surrounded us. Knowing we couldn’t stop; we didn’t break the rhythm. The air suddenly smelt of fresh rain instead of rotted meat.

We moved on. Slowly we worked our way further in. A home office had double doors that opened to the formal sitting room close to the front door. Jesse took a sharp breath as soon as we entered it. Only the widening of Jesse’s eyes alerted me to danger. I didn’t have time to respond before I felt a cold disgusting hand wrap around my ankle. It lifted me off my feet. I was dragged out of the doorway by what looked like The Rock sized demon. When I had fallen, I dropped my sage and holy water. Trying to keep calm I started singing the old rugged cross. It had no effect. Mercilessly I was drug through the formal living room and thrown out the front door like I was Jazz and the demon was Uncle Phil. Before I could take in my surroundings, Jesse was at my side. I assured him I was ok, just a little bruised. Pissed, I stormed back inside. At the top of my lungs, I continued to recite scripture. Robbie had picked up my smudge stick and was quoting random bible passages in our absence. With the four of us reciting and commanding, we were able to close the portal in the closet.

Disturbingly we found portals in all the bedrooms. As we worked to close them, the demons were becoming more aggressive. The armoire in the parents’ bedroom fell over. Barely missed landing on Robbie. The priest’s rosary started to wrap itself around my neck. A canvas print of the sea cracked Jesse in the head. Still, we persisted in closing the portal.
