Chapter 90 Combat Diving Training

Daniel was all ears when Donovan brought up this "training" thing. He was feeling pretty good about his shooting skills but knew his self-control was still kinda shaky.

Yeah, he was just a rookie. No matter how much he practiced, he wasn't a pro soldier.

Real soldiers go through hardcore training and actual combat.

Daniel knew he couldn't just rely on dumb luck like James. He figured, with modern warfare being what it is, he probably wouldn't get lucky enough to survive on the battlefield for thirty years.

Right now, he was just dealing with Afrilon's militia, maybe a small mercenary group, and he was already feeling the heat. What would happen if he faced more elite troops in the future?

Daniel's biggest strengths were his grit and his hunger to learn. When he found out there was a way to fix his problem, he was all in.

Once the plane leveled out, Daniel turned to Donovan and asked, "So, what's this training all about?

I need to get my head straight. I can't be acting like I'm on Red Bull just facing a bunch of militia.

If you're talking about special forces training, I think I can handle it. As long as it works, I'm down to put in the time."

Donovan chuckled and said, "Daniel, what do you think special forces training is?"

Daniel frowned and said, "Don't underestimate me. I haven't been through it, but I've seen stuff online. The whole point of special forces training is to push human limits, so it's gotta be brutal.

But if it really works, I can do it too."

Donovan shook his head and said, "Don't think like that. Special forces training is tough, but it's not like what you see online or on TV.

If they trained like they show on TV, there wouldn't be any special forces left."

Seeing Daniel's curious look, Donovan smiled and said, "I haven't been through all the special forces training out there, but the toughest part I went through in the 'Shadow Ops Unit' was the 'selection' phase.

A lot of people sign up, and the Shadow Ops Unit uses a three-month selection training to weed out the unqualified ones.

So, the selection training is all about pushing people to their physical and mental limits, cutting out most of the weak links.

The 8-12 weeks of high-intensity training and 24-48 hour extreme tasks break a lot of people.

At that point, physical fitness doesn't matter as much. People turn into robots, and without a rock-solid will, they can't pass the special forces selection.

This kind of selection training is used by special forces all over the world because they believe the best soldiers are the ones who are strong both physically and mentally.

What you see online and on TV is mostly the selection phase. The real special forces training involves all sorts of tactical and professional skills.

These programs are a lot like regular military training, but they're more intense and detailed."

Daniel was blown away by Donovan's words and said, "Wait, you mean special forces, like new recruits, have to go through a two to three-month rookie period?"

Donovan replied, "Of course. Basic training gets regular folks used to the military life, while the special forces boot camp picks out the strongest soldiers."

Daniel, still curious, asked, "So what kind of training do you think would be useful for me? Do I need to put myself through that kind of torture?"

Donovan went quiet for a bit, then said, "If you're up for it, the 'selection training' could be useful. It shows you where your physical and mental limits are.

When someone pushes you hard and there's someone else busting their butt right next to you, you might just push past your own limits.

All special forces guys come out of that training with more confidence and a bigger sense of pride because they feel like they've really changed."

Locking eyes with Daniel, Donovan hesitated, then said, "But you're the boss. Your shooting skills are the fastest and most accurate I've seen. You don't always need to push your limits.

The best training for you might actually be combat diving training. It's extreme, and 80% of special forces soldiers find it brutal and desperate."

Daniel frowned, "Are you trying to scare me? Is diving training that tough?"

Donovan's face twisted with a painful memory, "If it's just diving with a breathing apparatus, it's not hard. But special forces combat diving training is a whole different beast.

It needs not just physical fitness but also absolute calmness, like controlling your heartbeat in desperate situations.

You know about Halcyon's Thunder Squad, right? They have this famous underwater demolition training, similar to the combat diving training I'm talking about.

The goal isn't just to teach you how to dive but to keep your cool in uncomfortable situations and handle any problems calmly.

Daniel, this training fits your problem perfectly, but honestly, I'd suggest you skip it. Just fighting more battles can also help with your condition.

Getting pumped up when facing the enemy isn't always a bad thing."

Daniel got what Donovan meant by 'combat diving training.'

Humans aren't fish. Lots of people can swim, and Daniel was a decent swimmer. But when trouble hits in the water, people freak out way more than on land.

This training uses the dangerous underwater environment to teach soldiers survival skills in the water.

Like Donovan said, learning to dive isn't the main thing; learning to stay calm under pressure is the key.

Daniel felt this training was spot on!

Seeing Donovan's hesitant look, Daniel asked, "Have you done this training? How effective is it?"

Donovan sighed, "I did the combat diving training, but I didn't pass."

Seeing Daniel's skeptical look, Donovan quickly added, "It's not that I wasn't good enough. I swear, the instructors were out to get me from the start."

Daniel shook his head, unimpressed, "Halcyon's Thunder Squad members all passed the underwater demolition training. Your Shadow Ops Unit isn't up to snuff.

But whatever. Can you set up a diving training spot for me? I wanna give it a shot."

Seeing Daniel's determined look, Donovan hesitated, then said, "If you're sure, I can set up a training base after we deal with the Mori Family.

As long as you're willing to pay, you can join the special forces soldiers in Italica for this training."

As soon as Donovan finished, Nis grabbed his arm, "I'm going too."

Natalie raised her hand, "If it doesn't cost too much, I'm in."

James, overhearing, turned around, "I can swim, but count me out."
