Chapter 175
Chapter 175
5 months have passed since that devastating ordeal and everyone that survived was picking up the pieces of their lives. The realms were safe from the shadow of darkness that had been shrouding them. A lot had been lost, and many people had died. It was a time to heal, rebuild and restore. After the battle against Drakoen, and Mercedes's close brush with death, it was time for a change. They began with making sure that none of Drakoen's dark army remnants were left behind. It was important to hunt down everyone, one of Drakoen's dark army survivors, so that any hope of continuing their master's dark ambition would be destroyed and buried with. It took a lot of time but the mission to eradicate them seemed to have succeeded, and the realms were peaceful again.
Back in Vaughnorths, the remaining students mourned the deaths of the fallen and started building what was damaged so that they could restore their academy to its former glory. After spending too much time in Vaughnorths, Alexa decided it wouldn't hurt to stay there a little longer. But the real reason she decided to stay back was because of Isadora. After the battle and when things had settled, Isadora and Alexa finally got around to talking about their feelings for each other. It was not ideally the right time to talk about romance, but they figured the right time wouldn't be coming soon enough. And they just survived their biggest battle. Both of them came to the realization that life was precious and so was Iove. They couldn't keep putting off talking about it, or they would lose their chance. Now they have been dating secretly for 3 months. Their relationship was new, and they wanted to see where it was going while navigating their feelings before everyone else could get to know about it. Only they were oblivious to the fact that it was painfully obvious that they were dating. They were stuck together like glue, most of the time. Everyone who saw them together would come to the same conclusion, but they pretended not to notice. Yuna could barely see her mother, but she was not bothered about it too much. At least this time, she was not ignoring her, she was just too focused on her love. Yuna was just happy that her mother was happy and in love.
Yuna was trying to change her life as well. She was trying to make friends. After going through the battle together, things changed for everyone and a bond of sisterhood formed between the girls. Slowly but surely, Yuna was breaking out of her shell and she was focusing on her life while exploring the world around her. Vaughnorths was no longer closed off to the world. The students of Vaughnorths are now allowed to go out and see it.
The White Claw Pack was rebuilding and healing as well from the loss they faced. Most of the warriors died in battle, leaving behind their families. Their sacrifice was not in vain. Felix made sure that those warriors' families were taken care of in their absence. No one would be left by themselves. As a pack, everyone was already a family. Those remaining would move on and take care of each other. Felix was properly performing his duties as an Alpha, trying to make sure that things returned to normal as soon as possible. The only problem he was still facing was with his beloved mate, Mercedes.
Mercedes survived the greatest ordeal of her life. She was alright but she wouldn't wake up. Ever since that day, she never woke up. It was as if she was in a coma. Alexa checked on her, but she found nothing out of the ordinary about her condition. She was fine, and she should have regained consciousness, but she didn't. Alexa even transferred her own energy to try and stir her awake, but that wasn't working either. After spending a month in Vaughnorths, Felix decided to take her back home.
Crystal was emotional when she saw Mercedes. It had been a while since she saw Mercedes, and she almost did not see her again because of the war, and she returned in a condition that no one could get her out of. After a medical examination, Mercedes remained in the same condition and the doctors had no explanation for it. Mercedes was like a sleeping beauty struck by a sleeping curse. Felix even tried to wake her up with a kiss, but it didn't work. Felix was up to his wits' end not knowing what to do to get Felix to wake up again. The only thing he could do was remain hopeful and hope she would come around soon. He made sure to talk to her and update her about daily life. He sometimes brought Horace to see his mother. Felix placed Horace on the bed next to his mother and let him play. He had grown a lot in those 5 months, and he could now babble a lot of baby talk and was too active.
Felix hoped that hearing her son and feeling his presence would make her wake up, but it wasn't working as well. Poor Horace wasn't even aware what was really happening to his mother. It broke his heart. Even though he was hopeful that she would soon awake from her slumber, he was fearful that months would end up being years of her remaining in that state. What would he do then?
As usual, he opened the curtains to let the sunlight into the room, and he sat next to the bed watching her sleep. Nothing changed. She looked like she was sleeping peacefully. Time had stopped for her, but it was moving for Felix and he could feel it. He was trying to keep himself together and not fall apart, but it was getting difficult each day. He didn't cry or complain because he was grateful that Mercedes was still alive, but he was reaching his limit. All he wanted was to see her open her beautiful eyes and look at him. He wanted to hear her voice. He wanted to feel her touch and she embraced him because she missed him so much. He wanted to hear her say that she loved him and would not ever leave him. Felix held her hand and squeezed it. He had been keeping in his emotions for a while and bottled them up. Only in the privacy of his room could he be free to let go of it all.
" My love, I am tired," Felix whispered, his voice breaking. A lone tear escaped his eyes. He felt his composure starting to break.
" I'm begging you now. Please, won't you come back to me. Please stop being so cruel to me..."
A sob escaped his lips and he muffled his voice with his hand, so Mercedes would not hear him cry. Felix was lost, alone and desperate. He felt like he was trapped in a never-ending cycle of longing and despair, and he had no way out of it. When was all his suffering going to end? No one knew.
