Chapter 174
Chapter 174
While Felix and Alexa were caught up in their emotions, crying over Mercedes, a soft glow started to emanate from her body. Everyone froze, not sure what was happening. The light grew brighter by the second. Felix was shocked, but he wouldn't let go of Mercedes's hand. He wasn't going to leave her no matter what happened.
Alexa could sense it. That light glowing from Mercedes was the energy of the White Wolves left in her. When they found her, she couldn't sense it at all. She thought that she used it all up in the fight.
The air began to change again. The light started shine even brighter, blindingly, and it was too much to bear. All of them shielded their eyes from its glow. Felix and Alexa couldn't withstand it either.
Felix had his eyes closed, and he felt Mercedes getting pulled away from her. He couldn't see through the light, but Mercedes was getting pulled away from her, and it was causing him to panic.
“ No. What the hell is going on?” he groaned, annoyed by the light that was preventing him from seeing what was happening. He held on to Mercedes' hand tightly, but the pull was stronger. Felix wanted to hold onto her, but he was afraid that if he kept holding on to her, she would get hurt. Hesitantly, he let go of her hand.
The light died down, and they all tried to recover their sight. Felix got up and strained his eyes, searching for Mercedes in a panic. Once he could see a little, he was stunned by what he saw and so was everyone else.
Mercedes's body had risen in the air floating above them. Her body was limp and still luminous. The shocking part was the spectrals of the White Wolves that were floating around her. The golden runes on their bodies glowed brightly. Everyone was amazed by their majestic forms, including Felix. It was their first time seeing the great White Wolves, and they felt honored to be in their presence. Felix was worried. He thought the White Wolves appeared to take Mercedes with them. He was not going to let that happen, even if it meant that he would have to risk his life.
Alexa got on her knees and bowed her head in reverence. Now that they showed themselves, it definitely meant they were going to help Mercedes live. They didn't forsake her after all.
“ Please save her. She has done her duty and has upheld your honor and avenged you. Without your help, she wouldn't make it. You bestowed your blessing upon her before. Please do it again, got the last time.” Alexa pleaded with her hands joined together as if she was praying.
Alexa was answered when one of the wolves, larger than the others, stepped forward, facing Alexa. Even in spectral form, Alexa could feel the intensity of their power. She made sure not to say something that would offend them, or she would risk facing their wrath.
“ You need not plead with us for the life of one of our own,” The wolf said with its voice booming with authority.
“ We have come to restore her life. Her duty has been fulfilled, and she shall be set free from the fate that bound us together.”
Alexa couldn't understand what the wolf meant, but she assumed that he meant that they would help Mercedes since she had fulfilled her duty. All they had to do was watch and see.
. The wolf’s eyes glowed golden and so did the rest of the other wolves. They lifted their heads to the sky, still surrounding Mercedes and howled together. A stream of golden glowing realm circled around Mercedes's body and the energy of the White Wolves started leaving her body. At that moment, Mercedes opened her eyes, which were glowing golden like those of the wolves.
Felix watched, tears streaming down his face.
“ Mercedes,” he whispered.
He thought that Mercedes had regained consciousness seeing her eyes open. Her white hai lifted like a halo in the wind.
No one knew what was going on. They just watched as the light glowed around the runes and Mercedes. After a long and breathless moment, everything just stilled. All of a sudden, Mercedes let out a sharp breath and all the light burst outward, washing over them all. It blinded them for a moment again.
When they all opened their eyes, the white wolves were no longer there. Their forms shattered into golden sparks that were like fireworks. The sparks vanished into the sky. Mercedes was now different. Her eyes were closed and her body was limp in the air again. Her white hair had all turned back into its original color, and she had no energy of the White Wolves left in her. Her floating body started coming back down. Felix sprung to catch her as her body gently fell back into Felix's arms. All the injuries on her body were healed. Felix took that as a good sign, but he was still concerned because she was not waking up.
He looked at Alexa, with his eyes full of questions.
“ What now? Will she be alright?” he asked, his tone full of worry.
Alexa sighed. She didn't know what to say. She knew what had happened to Mercedes. She could sense that her soul was repaired, so she was no longer in danger. The white wolves kept their word and saved her, but for that, they have also taken all of her power. Mercedes was just but only a human now. She was no longer a werewolf, much less a white wolf. Alexa didn't know if that was a good thing or bad, but he had to tell Felix either way.
She smiled softly at him and placed her hand on his shoulder.
“ You don't have to worry about her. The White Wolves have saved her life so she will be alright.”
Felix sighed, relieved to hear what he was hearing. He felt like he could breathe again. Mercedes was alive and that is all that mattered to him. Alexa was quiet, staring at Mercedes. She was wondering how Mercedes would feel about the truth now. Would she be okay? It was a lot to process, but she believed that now that Mercedes had got through the worst, she would find her way around her new reality.
Felix, on the other hand, could sense that there was something that Alexa was not telling her. He didn't want anything about Mercedes being kept a secret from him. So he had to ask her. He needed to know, or he would be bothered until he found out what she was keeping from him.
“ I know that look, Alexa. Tell me, what's wrong?”
Alexa sighed in defeat. Even she didn't feel like hiding this truth from him, so she gave in.
“ Mercedes is fine,” she paused, looking at him. She knew that telling Felix the truth would not make a difference. Felix loved Mercedes and whether she was a werewolf or not, it wouldn't matter to him. She was confident in the fact, but it still was not easy to just accept immediately. He would have to take that in and come to terms with it at some point.
“ It's just that… Mercedes is no longer a werewolf. The White Wolves healed her, but they also took her wolf and power from her. She is just a human now.”
Felix froze. He didn't understand. How could that be? Why didn't he sense it? Neither did his wolf. Reina was no longer a part of Mercedes. Roland was quiet and didn't react. And their mate bond was still intact, stronger even. It took a minute for him to digest the news. So that's what happened. Felix was not happy about it, but he was more glad that Mercedes was alive. He would pacify Roland later once Mercedes got better.
“ Mercedes is alive and that alone is more than a miracle. I'm just happy that I didn't lose her. Werewolf or not, she remains the woman I love. Whatever happens after this, we will get through it together.”
That response satisfied Alexa. There was certainly a lot to get through and heal from, but as long as they were alive and together, that is what mattered.
