Chapter 189 After the attack

Chapter 189 On all four

Ira's POV

The corridor outside is empty when I step into it.

I've never been to this part of the pack since we got here. But even at that, I don't think this place should be so empty… so void of movement.

I tighten Ruel’s shirt around my shoulders, his scent still trapped in the fabric, then I start walking.

I am not sure where I am going. Only that I am meant to move.

I pause, strangely feeling like I'm being watched. But I don't stop, not until I'm a good distance from the pack’s clinic.

Not until I spot two guards, quite a distance away, sprawled across the floor.

My brows draw closer. “Hey,” I call, contemplating getting back inside and yelling for help.

They remain unmoving.

When I bend down to tap them, something moves.

I don't see the arrow until it is already cutting through the air toward my face.

The breeze around me snaps upward violently, and pushes against the arrow, causing it to
Strike the earth with its tail.

My mouth opens in a gasp.

“That has never happened before.” I mutter to myself, more focused by what happened than the man who I can now spot preparing another arrow from behind a distant tree.

The man behind the tree shoots again and this time not just one but five arrows comes at me from different directions.

The wind rushes against four of these arrows while my body jerks backwards without me choosing to move, Cristal efficiently helping me avoid the last arrow.

When I look forward again, they are there.

At least thirty men all swiftly closing in on me

In no time they stealthily create a wide arc around me. As if they are trying to maintain silence.

Each of them have masks on their faces, watching me with their weapons drawn, waiting.

Surprisingly my pulse stays steady, my heartbeat normal.

“Follow my lead, Ira,” Cristal’s voice threads through my mind.

The wind ruffles my hair, like a firm disagreement from my aura. As though it's telling me to trust it instead.

“You are lucky the alpha king wants you alive, or this would have hurt much worse.” A familiar voice says through a mask.

Ignoring the blonde idiot, I address Cristal and my aura. “We move together,” I mutter under my breath. “okay?”

“Fuck that,” Cristal snaps and suddenly my legs are running…. Straight into them.

The first blade cuts toward me without hesitation, a savage swing obviously aimed to split me apart where I stand.

I drop under it, my palm slamming into the ground as I pivot.

Why I do it, I don't know. But the wind answers instantly, surging upward so violently that it throws the man off his feet.

Where he lands I don't have the luxury to find out as another sword slices the air beside my shoulder.

My fist connects with the man's jaw, my foot hitting hard into the abdomen of the one approaching from behind.

The wind follows every move I make, making my hits have more impact than they normally would.

A spear cuts toward my ribs and I twist, catching the shaft with my forearm, and kicking forward… hard.

Harder than is normal for a human… even a sempyr.

The unfortunate attacker slams into a wall, sliding down without moving again.

More come at me but I don't stop fighting.

“IRA!” Ruel's shout reaches my ears but before I can respond, a fist is thrown at my face.

I catch the wrist, twist, and slam my elbow into his throat. The neck snaps, instantly sickening me a little.

“He deserved it.” Cristal mutters.

I duck a blade and drive my shoulder into a man’s chest right before pulling my open hands back and pushing forward.

The wind obeys immediately, lifting five of them off their feet and slamming them hard on the floor.

More footsteps rush at me.

I reach swiftly, grabbing the nearest man by his mask and yanking him close.

His mask tears away. And the face underneath it doesn't surprise me. That scar… only one blonde man I know has that scar.

“Scarface?” I say, noticing his broken nose and the blood on his head. I must have hit him earlier.

His furious eyes lock onto mine, and then his body shudders violently.
A second later, his wolf stands in front of me, massive and snarling, lips curled back to reveal his well-used fangs.

I feel no fear. Instead my lips curl with delight as I jump at him. Shifting midair, my claws and fangs aim at the shocked wolf before me.

Right before I make contact, a larger wolf slams into Scarface, dragging his wolf across the hard floor.

I hit the floor disappointedly.

Suddenly, Veilfang guards and warriors flood the scene, defense rising from every direction.

But my silver eyes stay fixed on Ruel.

On the way his wolf slams Scarface into the ground hard enough to shake it.

Scarface barely stops skidding before Ruel is on him again, crashing into him with impressive force and throwing him back down.

Before Scarface can recover, Ruel is already moving, hunting him down to do it again.

Elric and Omar arrive at the same time, shifting mid-motion, their wolves hitting the ground ready as they tear into the remaining fighters without hesitation.

At some point I realize my tail is wagging. Not because I enjoy the violence around me but because for the first time in my life, I'm standing on four legs… just like the rest of them.
