Chapter 56 THE DREAM
ZARA'S POV
I woke up to find myself in my room. The clouds seemed pregnant with thunderstorms striking here and there. My head hurts badly and I couldn't move my body because it was laced with pains.
I tried to remember glimpses of what had happened earlier that day but nothing was coming to mind.
"Hey.... You're awake." Mira had said as she stepped into the room.
The lights turned off in the hallway signified that it was still midnight.
"Yeah... My head and body hurts badly." I stated.
I tried to push myself into a sitting posture but it only worsened the pain.
"Hey.... Just relax." She said as she quickly hurried over to where I laid down.
She helped me with a pill and a glass of water.
"It's Advil. It should ease the pain." She said.
"Thank you." I murmured gratefully.
I racked my head, trying to figure out what has happened in the last few hours, but it seemed that the more I tried to remember things, the more my head hurt and kept showing a blank page. It was like something or someone had wiped out my memories, leaving me with gaps in memory.
"Fuck!" I gritted painfully.
I was glad that Mira wasn't so close anymore. That way, she wouldn't see how I was struggling internally.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"It's 9pm." She responded.
"Thank you." I commented.
She nodded just before she stepped into the bathroom we shared. I reached out to Kai through our mind link. He wasn't responding as quickly as I expected. It was more like there was a mental block between the two of us and I didn't know how that made me feel.
Our mind link wasn't a letter kind of thing where I could drop a text and then maybe later on he could respond to it. If I couldn't reach him, then I would have to reach out to someone else.
I contacted Luna through our mind link.
"Hey Zara... You should be resting especially after the vigorous training we had today." She said, awfully chirping I must say.
I didn't know what to make of that so I reported to a moment of silence.
"Zara... Are you there?" She questioned.
"Uhm... Yeah...I'm there." She responded.
"Is everything okay?" She asked.
"Is Mira there?"
"Nah... No... She's in the bathroom." I responded, really not feeling like talking further.
"I should return to bed now."
"Is everything okay Zara?"
That was the last thing I heard her say before I blocked her out of the mind link. Mira came into the room, smelling of freshly used strawberry scrub. She had just had her bath and it was showing from her scent as well as the smoke that followed her every movement.
"What happened today?" I questioned, watching her expression carefully.
She didn't slip. Her face was smooth of any expression.
"You don't remember?" She retorted.
"We had trainings... Too stressful."
"You blacked out as usual.."
It seemed believable to me. I should really stop thinking too hard about all this. I stood up from the bed after too much effort.
"Where are you heading to?' Mira questioned.
"I want to go for a run." I replied.
"That's not a good idea." She said.
"Why not?" I threw back.
"You're not fully healed Zara." She yelled, getting quite pissed off by my nonchalant reactions.
"Something feels off... I need to feel myself once again." I said, and without giving her a once over I shifted into my wolves and jumped out of our window.
I heard her scream in the background but I blocked out her voice as I ran deeper into the woods.
I caught whiff of the scent of a natural scenery.
"Zara..." I heard my name being called.
"Who's there?" My wolves questioned in unison.
"Wake up!!!" I heard the same voice say.
I tried to ignore what it was saying. The clouds became darker as small rain droplets began to fall. It was the first rain of the season.
"Zara Night, return to your room." I heard the school alarm ring loudly.
Shit!! I had been caught.
I immediately took to my heels as I rushed back to my room. Getting to my window, it didn't seem like my window again. This one seemed different with gold railings rather.
"Wake up!" I heard that voice say again.
I blocked it out once more. I wasn't going to entertain any voice that I didn't care about.
"Zara.... Where are you?" Kai asked through our mind link.
Oh! I guess, I finally mattered to him.
"Zara.... Zara... Please can you hear me?" He questioned.
"Zara..."
I wanted to respond but I couldn't.
I tried shifting back to my human form but I couldn't shift back. It was like I had been stuck in my wolf form.
No....
This must be some misunderstanding. This had never happened before.
"Zara... Where are you?" Rex asked.
His voice seemed like he was terrified for me.
Why would he be feeling that way. I was standing in front of the window which didn't look like mine and it just so happened to be locked tight.
"Zara.... Fight this!" Luna said through our mind link.
Why was everyone talking to me through mind links?
Why were they sounding terrified?
Why couldn't I respond to my friends?
Why couldn't I shift back to my human form?
"Zara.... Fight this!" Luna yelled.
It was like the force of her voice jolted me awake. Several energies began warring inside of me. Then the window unlocked.
"Come Zara!" I heard that first voice say.
"You belong here.... The last devourer." It said.
I didn't see who was talking. It was like I was caught in a movie like film.
"Zara... Zara... Can you hear me?" Mira said.
"We can go through all this together."
"We're here for you."
"We'll always be here."
My head spun badly, my eyes watered. I was convulsing.... In this world I found myself, in my dream, where my body was physically.
Then I jumped into the window and quickly changed back to my human form.
"Zara...." Mira called.
I woke up from that harsh dream. None of that was real.
Or was it?
