Chapter 27 Clean Slate
Kai's POV
I woke up from sleep with a pounding headache. My memory seemed to have lapses. I couldn't understand what was going on.
"Hey... You're awake." I heard someone say.
"Good morning." I greeted.
"You fell down pretty hard yesterday." He said.
Probably trying to explain why I woke up with the pounding headache.
"Oh! I can't remember what happened last night." I responded.
I was fully awake by this time. I looked at the person that was speaking to me. He seemed like a student at the academy due to the academy scarf that hung around his neck.
"Uhm... Who are you?" I questioned trying to get out of my bed.
My legs seemed weak so I made no further attempt to try to get out of bed.
"Cause I don't remember inviting you into my room." I added quickly.
"I'm just a student in this academy." He shrugged.
"Dr. Voss saw you really knocked out in the library yesterday so I escorted you back to your room."
That seemed off. Library? Me, what the hell was n doing in the library at that time.
"Hmm." I murmured under my breath.
"Thank you for that." I responded.
I was done playing whatever games this fucker was playing. So I took up enough strength to pull me up on my legs before walking over to him.
I stood in front of him allowing my feirce picture come into his full view. Funny enough! He didn't seem intimidated.
"Hey big man." He said giving me a smirk.
"What's wrong?"
I quickly grabbed his collar, pushing him roughly to the wall.
"What the fuck really happened last night?" I asked again, taunting him to give me a valid answer.
He just stared into my eyes directly, not once blinking. Within the blink of an eye, he has me in an upper cut.
"Keep your hands to yourself." He warned me.
"Fuck me for deciding to be a good person and bring you to your room."
With that, he got out of my room leaving me to my thoughts. I still felt something was off, but deep down, my wolf knew that the guy who just left my room wasn't lying to me. Yet, I was still stubborn to believe that.
Fuck!!! My head was a mess of jumbled thoughts. My device beeped.
Dr. Voss was reaching out to me.
I picked her call as I walked into the bathroom to freshen up.
"Good morning Dr. Voss." I greeted, already tired of her.
"Good morning Kai." She responded.
"How do you feel today?".
"I'm having a pounding headache and apparently I fell hard yesterday." I said, trying to get a reaction or at least anything from her.
"Yeahh... I don't know what got your head messed up yesterday." She responded sadly.
"It was pretty bad. At some point, I almost got terrified of you."
Now!!! That was a lie. I don't remember losing control over my wolf yesterday. I had been able to get control over them so that won't be possible right?
I was mute for a while, trying to clear my thoughts and maybe just maybe remember bits of what happened last night.
"I'll like to see you in my office in 20 minutes." She ordered before ending the call.
I just got into my bathroom, freshened up before changing into my clothes for the day. A white shirt, red vest with black pants paired with a black sneakers. The chilly wind from the winter entered into my bones. I quickly grabbed a scarf and wrapped around my neck before heading out of my room.
There was no one in my own hall when I stepped out of my room. That was the good thing about my position in the academy. I got to have quiet walks before meeting the whole world... The people enrolled in the academy.
I walked into Dr. Voss's room, a minute late from the timeframe she had given me.
"One minute late." She announced.
"I'm sorry." I apologized frantically.
"Have a seat." She ordered.
I quickly walked over to the seat in front of her table. She pushed a video on her iPad towards my direction.
They were people fighting, silver cities burning....
I began to palpitate. My head spun, silver cities fragments filled my head, my eyes stung with tears.
"What the hell is this." I boomed out loud.
I was even taken aback by the tenacity of my voice in that small moment.
"I wanted to hear what you saw when you looked at this images." She said as she took the video back to her own side of the table.
"Well.... I don't have anything to say." I responded.
"Hmm... So useless this morning." She muttered under her breath.
"What's going on in Zara's life?" She asked.
I hadn't thought about her since I woke up.
"I've not seen her yet. So no updates for now." I responded.
"I'll be expecting updates by noon day." She stated in a dismissing manner.
I nodded before stepping out of her office. The alarm rang, indicating that it was time for breakfast. I stopped in an empty hallway.
"What happened last night?" I asked my inner wolf.
"I remember a ritual happening but everything after that got missing." It responded.
"I can't even remember a ritual happening." I said.
"Oh well! Maybe Zara or Mira would know something." It responded.
"Hopefully!" I said.
"Why do they keep doing this?"
There was no more response. My wolf had retired to its place to think maybe... I walked into the cafeteria, ordered my food before walking over to my clique's table.
"Hey Kai. You look great today." Zara said.
"Thank you." I responded smiling sheepishly.
Mira cleared her throat to remind us of her presence in the hall.
"Sorry... Hey Mira." I responded now settling into my seat.
At that point, I realized that something was wrong. Luna and Rex were not in the cafeteria. It was like they had never been here.
"I had a serious headache when I woke up this morning." I put it out there.
"Oh... Sorry about that." Zara apologized.
"Did you go to the infirmary to check it out?"
"No.... I feel much better now." I responded.
It wasn't a lie actually.
"So is it just me that remembers what happened last night." Mira said in a low voice.
Zara sat perplexed on my opposite side.
"What do you mean?" I queried.
"Forget it then!" Mira said.
"Hey Mira... I knew something was off right from when I woke up." I said.
"If you know something then please let us know."
"Your memories have been wiped." She said as she shakes her head furiously.
"Mira please speak plainly." I begged.
Zara sat in her seat helpless.
"Are you both joking?" Mira asked.
"I can't trust anyone at this point."
That was all she said before stepping out of the room.
