Chapter 17 Two Can Play This Game

Chapter 17 Two Can Play This Game
Kai's POV

"What the hell just happened?" I asked, torn between confusion and threat.

I wish everything that had happened in the past few weeks just played out in their real senses and not some mixed up mojo stuff.

"I wish I had a response your question."

Mira responded.

Zara's hand tightened around her cup of coffee. It looked like she was a few minutes away from spilling all the contents on the ground.

"Hey Zara." I called out to her.

She didn't respond. Her eyes were still fixated on the chairs that Luna and Rex stood up from.

Mira nudged her side, pulling her attention back to her surroundings.

"Uhm... Yeah." She said clearing her throat.
"How could she have your scent? Similar faces?" Mira questioned.

I cleared my throat to bring back their focus to what I had to say. They both turned to face me.

"How about we put all this behind us." I suggested.

"Take them like new transfers." I added.
Mira snickered under her breath.

"Like that.... They fucken new our names." She said.

"And Luna had my scent." Zara mumbled.

"But, we can overlook it." I said, more firmly this time around.

"I guess we can." The girls responded accordingly.

We left the cafeteria together, the three of us walking down the stone corridor that gleamed with morning light. Students brushed past us, chatting, laughing, rushing to class. For a while, it felt almost peaceful, almost like we weren’t surrounded by secrets and codes and hidden agendas.

The alarm rang, signifying that it was time for the classes of the day. We all headed to the mindset class. This particular class tested you based on your thoughts and inner self. I knew this because I had passed through it once upon a time.

"Do you know what this class is all about."

Zara asked.

"Your inner man." I said firmly.

"It exposes everything about yourself."

"You could choose to block them out just until your time's up."

"How long does it take?" Mira asked.

"About 3 hours per person." I replied curtly.
"Wow!!! That's a lot of hours dedicated to a person." Zara said as she entered a contemplative state.

"You can do this. Block them out!!" I said assuring her that it wasn't anything serious.

I went over to my seat at the forefront to watch as always and make corrections when needed.

"File up in six pairs." The class instructor ordered.

Mira and Zara had to split due to their differences in class strengths. I really hoped that they wouldn't be able to infiltrate their heads. Just then Luna and Rex came into the class.

"Right!!! Think nothing about this." I told myself.

Luna approached Zara. I could read their lips from the conversation they were having.

"Just picture something in your head for as long as you can.

"They will only be permitted to see what you want to show them." She said as she gave her a quick hug before going to the end of the class to stand.

Rex on the other hand stood in a line quite unbothered by what was going on in his surroundings. It seemed like they knew what happened even before it did. But then again, what did I just say about not putting too much thoughts into any of this.

"Zara Night!" The instructor called.

She didn't flinch, she just stared at him with no movement.

"Come to the table." He said.

Zara nodded before walking up to the table for her test. There was this aura she carried at that point. Not scaredy cat Zara but powerful Zara. She was beautiful in all her elements.

"You know what this test is all about, right?" The instructor asked.

"I've been briefed Sir." She responded with a slight sneer.

"Close your eyes." He ordered before placing the metal on her forehead.

Everywhere was silent. Zara didn't move. She just sat silently, crossing her hands as if to deny nature.

"What are your strengths?" The instructor asked, speaking to her mind.

I couldn't see what she showed him but it sure as fuck made him growl out in anger.

"Don't play games with me woman!" He sneered.

I was enjoying every moment of this test at this point.

"Your strengths!" He said again.

This time, he was in the verge of getting out of his seat and putting her in her place.

"Let's go lighter then.." He said.
I don't know what I expected, but it was definitely not the next words I heard him sputter out of his mouth.

"Tell me about Kai Storm." He said.

I chuckled slightly. Petty much!

Zara just huffed a breath of air without saying anything. The class instructor was at her neck now. Choking her way too much. It pushed something within me. I struggled to keep my growl at bay. He was pissing me off.

Touching what was mine! Wait... Hold up!

Where did that thought come from?

"You better stop playing games with me young woman!" He snarled quite angry.
Ohh! He was turning into a big bad wolf.

That wasn't going well. Just as I was about to stand up and reiterate the rules of the test to him. I heard screams coming from the instructor. Apparently, Zara had held on to the hand he was using to choke her and gotten into his mind.

"How could she do that?" I thought.

"Why don't you tell me about your sneaky link with Ms. Alberta." She whispered slowly, just so that it was only the people seated around the table that could hear her.

"The Janitor, huh!" She said smiling like she was doing nothing wrong.

"Don't you dare push me if you're not ready to deal with the consequences." She said angrily before letting his hand fall to the ground.

"My three hours is up!" She stated proudly, throwing a glance my way.

My heart lurched in my mouth. I was so proud of her.

How did we even get here.

"Yes Miss Night. You can move over to the restroom whilst we wait for the next class to begin for you." The instructor said.

He was a shivering mess. I had to step in to take on the remaining sessions.

"Thank you Instructor." Zara said smoothly.

I held back a laugh. That was a nice one there. Before I knew it, Rex sat in front of the table. It was his time to be tested.

Maybe I could pull something out of him.

For the next two hours, Rex only gave glimpses of my own life. It was like I was reading a story of myself in him. It was messing with my head and I didn't like the reactions he was getting out of me. Just when the alarm for his time was about to go off, he showed a memory that I hadn't gotten in a while.

"Silver cities burning, creatures like himself destroying the world"

The alarm rings indicating that Rex's time is up.  Before he could blink, Rex was out of the hall.
