Chapter 124 Chapter 124
"It's good to be vertical," I replied with a small smile, taking the chair Kane pulled out for me. Diamond was fully awake now, her silver energy flowing through me with renewed vigour, though still not at full strength. The triplets' presence created a strange warmth within me, three tiny flames Diamond was nurturing carefully.
"We've mapped the remaining Northern Alliance strongholds," Alpha Maxwell explained, gesturing to the locations marked in red. "Based on interrogations of captured members, we believe their leadership has scattered to these five locations."
I studied the map, noting how the marked points formed a rough circle around our territory. "They're positioning themselves strategically."
"For the eclipse," Margaret Chen agreed, her sharp eyes meeting mine. "The Priestess believes they'll attempt a coordinated ritual from multiple sites."
"Creating a convergence of dark energy," Liam added, pointing to the centre of their circle, which happened to be alarmingly close to the sacred grounds on the original Blackthorne territory. "If they can't use Moonstone as their focal point, they'll try to corrupt the sacred grounds instead."
The implications hit me like a physical blow. "They knew we'd go there for the eclipse. They're counting on it."
"Which means we need to secure not just the sacred grounds, but all approaches to it," Richard Hawke said grimly. "A perimeter defence spanning miles."
Brent moved to my side, his amber eyes lighting up when he saw me. "You're up!" he exclaimed, before his expression turned more serious. "We've been coordinating with allied packs to establish a security cordon around the entire Blackthorne territory."
I nodded, grateful for their foresight. "And the sacred grounds themselves?"
"The Priestess has already dispatched a team of her acolytes to begin preliminary purification rituals," Alpha Maxwell replied. "They'll prepare the convergence point for the binding spell you and Lucious will perform during the eclipse."
As the discussion continued, I felt a growing sense of determination replace my earlier exhaustion. Diamond's strength was returning rapidly now, her silver energy flowing through me with renewed purpose. The triplets' presence within me only strengthened my resolve. I wasn't just fighting for the present anymore, but for their future as well.
"There's something else," Lucious said, his voice drawing everyone's attention. "Something the entity said during our spiritual confrontation. It mentioned being patient, waiting centuries for this opportunity."
"The dark twin has been imprisoned since the earliest days of werewolf history," the Priestess confirmed. "Its patience is matched only by its malevolence."
"But why now?" I pressed, the question that had been nagging at me finally taking shape. "If it's been waiting for centuries, why is this eclipse so significant?"
The Priestess and Liam exchanged glances before Liam spoke. "We've been researching that very question. This particular eclipse coincides with a celestial alignment that occurs only once every 300 years."
"The last time this alignment occurred," the Priestess continued, "was when the original Blackthorne twins strengthened the barrier between worlds.”
The time before my namesake died at his hands as his fated mate, her death but his own hand, sent him over the edge and sent his wolf feral. The only difference was that he still blamed others for her death, not himself. In 300 years, he hadn’t learned anything from his mistake.
What made him kill his own mate was it because she was human and not like him?
If he hadn’t killed her by mistake, his heirs would have also been members of the Blackthorne family line or then the Shadowthorne line might have really existed, cousins of my brother and myself; they would have been our counterbalance, where there is light, there is always shadow. Could he be feeling the pull of a new mate bond, or has the spirit of the first Seraphina been reborn and is calling to him?
“Ok, so what if we’re all looking at this wrong for five seconds? Suppose that the original Seraphina’s soul had been reborn, and her soul is calling to him because their mate bond never fully died after he killed her when the Blackthorne family had been fated to the Goddess to mate with the original Lucious, the start of the Blackthorne Alpha Bloodline, where her twin Elias was fated to Lucious’s twin sister Seraphina if they were the ones that fixed the barrier could they have been each others counterbalcne. Must like light and shadow, his line, if he hadn’t killed her by mistake, would have been our cousins.” I pondered out loud.
The room fell silent as my words hung in the air. I could see the Priestess's eyes widening with dawning realisation, while my mates exchanged puzzled glances.
